Gruden season kicks off Week 10

CBS Sports has re-ignited the Jon Gruden-to-the-Raiders rumor mill, reporting Sunday that either the Raiders or Atlanta Falcons are the most likely teams for a return to coaching.

There is no on-the-record sourcing and some common sense speculation, noting owner Mark Davis’ affinity for Gruden, etc.

If the Raiders continue to play in the manner in which they did in last week’s defeat to Philadelphia, the talk will amplify. Gruden hasn’t spoken on the manner, but when he does he will say “I’m happy with the job I’ve got.”

Playing along for a minute, the Falcons would be able to offer a lot more money and a quarterback in Matt Ryan with whom Gruden would approve. Oakland’s situation is less stable in an economic sense _ no one really knows how much actual cash Davis has to spend _ and Terrelle Pryor is the kind of quarterback Gruden would love one one day and blow a gasket over the next.

All pure speculation, of course, worth about the same as the blogosphere it’s not printed on.

The only real option is to wait and see if the Reggie McKenzie/Dennis Allen regime can deliver the kind of progress Davis wants to see. The guess here is that 7-9 would about do it.

Its hands down our best chance! I don’t want to wait ten years for a perennial 8-8 team (which is what most of the posters here seem to be hoping for.)

time for some urgency coach.. you are on the hot seat

  • willy91137

Don’t come in here with that common sense G dog is on a roll he’s got the hots for Jon Gruden if we get Jon Gruden for a head coach Peyton Manning will come and play for us

  • Breaking_Black

I’ll take Mike Tirico if DA continues his pattern of success.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Seymour was fined $30,000 for punching Incognito? He should get a refund.

  • Gdog

Agreed.. I want to see coaching like they know their jobs are on the line.

Do anything and call any play just for a damn WIN!

Gawd I am sick of the conservative play calling, like they think we have the best team in the NFL or something…

I am pretty sure he makes just as much, if not more money doing MNF and Corona commercials. Why take on a stressful job for less cash. Besides without Al to GM, run the defense and special teams it wouldn’t be the same.

  • Gdog

Willy is happy to keep losing it seems.

  • myopinion

Unless theres an andrew luck in the draft I disagree, we need a stud wr, dline, just so many positoons of need. tp is not much older, and has progressd in many areas. offseason is only so long, shared reps with flynn all camp. hes shown many good things. and I still think olsen is the bigger problem. I mean ittook them all offseason and camp to realize flynn who couldnt beat ot tuel wasnt the ansqer? what a joke

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

You may be right. But we don’t know yet.

  • Gdog

There’s that binary mind again. He brought most of the players in and designed the offense that Callahan used.

That was Gruden’s team in the SB!

  • Breaking_Black

    Don’t forget about Hooters.

  • willy91137

    That was funny

  • marks hair

if we lose today we might as well start tanking for draft position…

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Big Ben wants to be traded come on Reggie lets get to work on that.

  • Gdog

Name a cheapskate that suddenly changes their ways. I have never seen it in my life… and I was raised by TWO of them!! lol

  • prometheus

passion is why he takes the job

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    Who could forget about Hooters

    ( . Y . )

  • marks hair

lol… he does not want to be traded here

  • Que

no thanks… forget about the college girl being brought to him .

  • prometheus

dennis allen? if so then i agree DA has some nice hooters

  • prometheus

isn’t that guy Martin gay? maybe him and incognito has a bad break up

  • willy91137

Remember the start of the season they said we were the worst team in the NFL only got three WANs and were better than the jags

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I’m not seeing the cheapskate yet. He was handcuffed, and definitely had his own idea of getting free. Now he is. Now we’ll see.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Take him to another hospital Dr he does not want to be treated here.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Need to bring Seymour back as well, then.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    You and Dakota.

  • fingersrdrs

What player on any teams is gonna tank his season for a high draft pick… ?…i wont even comment anything as stupid as this again….

  • Que

Were gonna get a few more wins too…

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

He and Dakota are dead serious about tanking for draft picks. It’s a head scratcher.

  • Gdog

We had this debate the other night. He could have spent more with the typical signing bonus/long term contract game, but was too cheap to do it.

He was a miser… and having twenty less million in committed contracts for next year than the next lowest team (and 50 million less than the median) proves it conclusively.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Wonder if we can get 7?

  • Sarah Oden-Marr

Colts tanked their season for Luck.. seems to have worked out for them…
