Pryor back at practice, McGloin taking first-team reps

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, November 14th, 2013 at 12:20 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Terrelle Pryor is back at practice today, which increases the chances of Pryor starting against the Houston Texans.
Time will tell, of course. For now, at least there’s hope, whereas Wednesday there was little more than uncertainty after Pryor sat out because of lingering soreness as a result of his MCL sprain in his right knee.
Rookie Matt McGloin worked with the first-team offense in the early part of practice, with Pryor taking reps with the backups. Always tough to tell what that means at this stage of a game week.
If McGloin still is taking reps with the first-team Friday, then it’s far more likely that he is going to start Sunday. Best guess is, coach Dennis Allen will have a pretty fair idea of whether Pryor is healthy enough to go Sunday by the end of today’s practice.
From afar, Pryor looked fine. He didn’t seem to be favoring his knee at all. He was able to plant that leg and throw with plenty of velocity.
Then again, Pryor isn’t running at full speed on the practice field, with a slew of defenders chasing him around. So, that’s where Allen and offensive coordinator Greg Olson earn their money, projecting off what they see on the practice field.

– Running back Darren McFadden isn’t on the practice field once again, which makes it unlikely that he will play Sunday.
He still is hampered by the hamstring injury that he suffered against the Eagles. Therefore, it appears as if you’re going to get a steady diet of Rashad Jennings on Sunday.
That’s not such a bad thing, given Jennings has averaged 95 yards rushing and 45 yards receiving the past two games. Allen said Jennings has “earned his touches” and McFadden’s return won’t change that mind-set.

– Jared Veldheer, Andre Gurode and Tony Pashos are on the practice field today and going through the paces.
Of note, Pashos is working at right offensive tackle, with rookie Menelik Watson working with the backups. It’s unclear whether Allen will go with Pashos or Watson on Sunday, if both are healthy. Pashos began the season as the starter. Watson started last Sunday.
Veldheer’s presence at practice is noteworthy because it means his surgically repaired triceps held up well Wednesday and that he is making progress toward a return to game action.
Veldheer hasn’t played in a game all season. He practiced for the first time Wednesday. The Raiders are two days into a 21-day window in which they have to decide whether to activate Veldheer or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

– Linebacker Miles Burris and kicker Sebastian Janikowski are at practice and taking part in drills. The same can’t be said for wide receiver Juron Criner and cornerback D.J. Hayden, who aren’t cleared to practice.

He can help develop a guy like TP. Big, strong, and mobile guys.

  • Raideraholic

You have to have a plan in place. I like the idea of bringing in a solid veteran QB. Even if he isn’t in his prime he can still help a young guy learn the ropes. I think it is a formula for success rather than throwing the rookies right in the fire.

As in you’re a “Troll Titty Monkey”, O is right you have just become an obnoxious downer. I know how to scroll by your posts don’t worry. I really did used to enjoy most of your takes.

  • Raideraholic

    Sounds good to me!

  • Raider O

Lmao. He said if Reece was playing with T Brady.

  • Raideraholic

Certainly wouldn’t hurt, that’s for sure.

  • SnBG

I like the idea, just don’t see it happening.

  • Raider O

LMAO. He is a titty monkey too? I thought he was a turd monkey.

  • SnBG

Not if Brady and Reece where playing with our Oline. Follow along psycho. I notice you said Big Ben wouldn’t be good here then you changed your mind . Split personality I believe they call it

  • SnBG

It’s past your bed time little girl. Let the big boys talk know.

  • SnBG

    It’s all Os fault.

  • SnBG

    Why not?

  • SnBG

    Huh?

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

I am beginning to see a pattern with you and the o-line…

  • SnBG

I would disagree with that. By that you are saying Pryor is just as talented as Peyton Manning/ I do agree that the head plays a big roll but the talent levels are different.

    Inheritance :
c : the acquisition of a possession, condition, or trait from past generations

  • SnBG

Yep, fix the O-line and get us a real QB and we could do well with the receivers we have, Add a good receiver and who knows.

  • SnBG

What’s that got to do with me?

  • Jim Jesus

I digress sir! “Turd Monkey” is the winner.

  • 0ak R8rs

Nothing wrong w being a fan of a player I guess.

  • 2romes

You wanted gone with Hue and appear so proud of it this is what your stuck with. The Raiders of the previous ten year before he got here. Clear?

  • SnBG

I wouldn’t say I’m proud. It’s still a good thing 2. We are building a real team now.

  • SnBG

    CK is rollin.

  • 2romes

Yes, your words. I am counting on your insight. Right now you see something I don’t and there is nothing wrong with that.

  • 0ak R8rs

You can disagree, but you would be wrong. Taking 10 year samples, 54% of 1st rounders r rated “busts” by Walter football. Only 50% of 2nd rounders. And comparing ANY player to Manning skews ANY argument. There’s no apples to apples argument that involves Peyton Manning.

Fact is, there isn’t that big an athletic dropped from round to round that gap widens (QB, CB) an lessens (guard, TE, DT) from position to position. But it’s really not that big a factor.

Obviously, guys drafted in the first round r a better bet than guys drafted in the 7th, or even the 4th. But it’s not as important as what they have between their ears and in their hearts.

We’ve had plenty of examples just on our own team. I’d much rather an excited Sio Moore in the 3rd round, arguably a 4th round talent, than a physically gifted POS like JaWalrus or McClown. They all have arms and legs. They don’t all have heads and hearts.

  • Just Win Baby

Watch when he has 5 catches Sunday if McG starts.

  • Blackholepriest

Raider O your boys lucked out against my nephew last week. He plays for SJS LB#53 Isaiah Irving.

  • Blackholepriest

You must be stupid we’re more solid behind tp than ever.

  • Blackholepriest

For those of you who are of the mind that I in any way have lost confidence in TP at all. Let me be very clear that is NOT THE CASE with me at all. I for one am 1000 % behind TP. JUST Because I admit his struggles does not in the slightest mean I don’t believe I n him. So ifthat is what you think. YOU’RE CRAZY AND SOME. I firmly believe he is exactly what this team needs going forward. There is only ONE QB out there I want over TP only he’s a redshirt freshman at FSU……..period

  • Rico Stifler

    And the delusion continues….

  • kenchun24

I would love Famous Jameis Winston as the Raiders possible future QB (actually like him better than pretty much all the guys from this years class even if Mariota and Hundley leave or stay in school) as long as he continues to improve next year – he will probably come out in 2015. Get some weapons like Mike Evans or one of them TE’s Ebron/Jenkins,a playmaking multi player like RB, WR, PR/KR DeAnthony Thomas… TP gets a last chance in his final contract year – no go we probably pick top 3 and have a chance for Winston.
