Pryor back at practice, McGloin taking first-team reps

Terrelle Pryor is back at practice today, which increases the chances of Pryor starting against the Houston Texans.
Time will tell, of course. For now, at least there’s hope, whereas Wednesday there was little more than uncertainty after Pryor sat out because of lingering soreness as a result of his MCL sprain in his right knee.
Rookie Matt McGloin worked with the first-team offense in the early part of practice, with Pryor taking reps with the backups. Always tough to tell what that means at this stage of a game week.
If McGloin still is taking reps with the first-team Friday, then it’s far more likely that he is going to start Sunday. Best guess is, coach Dennis Allen will have a pretty fair idea of whether Pryor is healthy enough to go Sunday by the end of today’s practice.
From afar, Pryor looked fine. He didn’t seem to be favoring his knee at all. He was able to plant that leg and throw with plenty of velocity.
Then again, Pryor isn’t running at full speed on the practice field, with a slew of defenders chasing him around. So, that’s where Allen and offensive coordinator Greg Olson earn their money, projecting off what they see on the practice field.

– Running back Darren McFadden isn’t on the practice field once again, which makes it unlikely that he will play Sunday.
He still is hampered by the hamstring injury that he suffered against the Eagles. Therefore, it appears as if you’re going to get a steady diet of Rashad Jennings on Sunday.
That’s not such a bad thing, given Jennings has averaged 95 yards rushing and 45 yards receiving the past two games. Allen said Jennings has “earned his touches” and McFadden’s return won’t change that mind-set.

– Jared Veldheer, Andre Gurode and Tony Pashos are on the practice field today and going through the paces.
Of note, Pashos is working at right offensive tackle, with rookie Menelik Watson working with the backups. It’s unclear whether Allen will go with Pashos or Watson on Sunday, if both are healthy. Pashos began the season as the starter. Watson started last Sunday.
Veldheer’s presence at practice is noteworthy because it means his surgically repaired triceps held up well Wednesday and that he is making progress toward a return to game action.
Veldheer hasn’t played in a game all season. He practiced for the first time Wednesday. The Raiders are two days into a 21-day window in which they have to decide whether to activate Veldheer or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

– Linebacker Miles Burris and kicker Sebastian Janikowski are at practice and taking part in drills. The same can’t be said for wide receiver Juron Criner and cornerback D.J. Hayden, who aren’t cleared to practice.

Wait…. We still have a Pryor loyalist amongst us?

  • KoolKell

Matt Flynn to Tyler Wilson to Matt McGloin to Johnny Manziel.

    Hope springs eternal, huh dumbass’s?

  • NewEra S&B

You heard it here first. Right on S&B666

I haven’t given up either. Not yet. I recognize he sucks right now. But I’m still willing to wait and see. I would like to see McGloin get the start this week tho. Just to see.

  • Chino

If he was with the raiders and playing like he is now , they would all approve. His attitude and all

Kerry Collins likes McGloin. Close enough.

  • 0ak R8rs

Awesome. So was Troy smith, Chris wienke, Danny wuirfel, Matt Leinart and Tim Tebow. Not exactly a measurement of what makes a successful NFL QB.

These hybrid QB’s see their running skills as a necessity to their game. It’s merely a PLUS for Manziel. Each of these “new era” QB’s with an exception of Russel WIlson, came into the league with flaws in either their throwing ability, accuracy, or pocket presence. After watching enough of Manziel and seeing between the big plays, I’ve noticed that he rarely flops a bad pass. Bad decisions at times yes, But his accuracy is highly above average and his arm strength for his size is astounding. 5’11″, 6’0 I don’t care what his size is. By himself he made Texas A&M relevant, just by being the skilled playmaker that he is. IMO he’ll be better than Drew Brees given the same circumstances.

  • SnBG

I believe Reg will pass on Johnny. His height will scare almost everyone.

  • NewEra S&B

There yah have it. 6’1″ with cleats.

  • 2romes

Manning, Bree’s, Brady, Rogers these QB’s have been holding onto the top spots for a while. There have been some pretty good picks with QB’s in years but none like these. What a waste of time to expect a college QB to dominate a league when we see how hard it is to stay at the top consistently.

I’m a teacher at the high school where Carr played his senior year (I was there at the time, too, but I taught only freshmen then, so he was not a student of mine). It would be awesome to have that kind of connection to the Raiders, but I have my doubts about Derek because there’s a good chance he’s just a clone of his brother. It feels risky. A 2nd round pick, fine. 1st round? IDK. A friend of mine (and fellow teacher) was one of his coaches and he thinks he’ll be good. Tough call.

  • wildsach

Pryor isn’t stupid, do you really think he wants to play behind this “piecemeal O-line ” ? Really. What fool would want too ?

  • wildsach

Well, at least he was being truthful.

Oak you dork I know you are better at reading than that. Did I once say anything about a transition to the NFL?

I was pointing out that he is the best NCAA QB right now please reread and then post.

  • 0ak R8rs

Who said he wasn’t? Idk what he does in college. I don’t want him. He’s a punk. Nobody was debating he didn’t earn the Heisman last year.

Did you guys see the the Manning Brothers first year’s(starting)? They sucked. They also had a full off season(OTA’s) as the “#1 QB”. Way to early to for this anti Pryor talk.. Especially with his supporting class.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    Did he touch you?

  • 0ak R8rs

    Lmao.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    LOL

  • 0ak R8rs

Slamming DHB on Thursday night pregame. Loved his attitude and speed and YAC. Why couldn’t he have hands???

  • brad

But seems to be injury prone, he wont be able to tip toe through the NFL! LMAO!

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Hands are for touching Oak and we all know what that leads too….

  • wildsach

What the heck do you expect from a rookie QB who played very little in pre-season and 6 mins vs the Eagles after TP got injured. Honestly, we all need to be realistic on Sunday if McGloin starts. I mean really, don’t expect a Tom Brady-like showing.

  • NewEra S&B

Can’t blame the Pryor brigade for hopping on and jumping ship just as quick.. We just want to win. And as much as I’d love to wait for Pryor to develop, I want a polished throwing QB at the helm of this rebuilding process.

  • SnBG

Carr……. 28 TD to 4 ints. Not bad.

  • brad

And without seeing what he can do with a productive RB and an Operational Offensive Line, and a True TE and a #1 WR! must we go on? LMAO! Go ahead continue to pray! LMAO!

  • RaidO

Flynn tried to play with this Oline and got destroyed.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Flynn couldn’t play with Lincoln Logs!

  • RaidO

Too much blame going to the QB. Some of you act like you never watched football.

  • 2romes

My favorite QB is Manning. Pure pocket passing if there has ever been one. I want a Manning on this team. Is this team ready for one right now is the question ?

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Yeah like last year when everything was #Palmersfault

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    He walked so HARD!!!

  • SnBG

Kinda like you blaming Allen for everything. To much blame on the HC.

  • NewEra S&B

Irregardless it’s a start. And a damn good one.

  • 2romes

Manning wanted to go to a team that was well balanced. With good pocket protection and a defense that played well.

  • NewEra S&B

    Meh.. Weak schedule.

  • Raider O

    32 TDs and 4 INTs.
Even your stats are wrong. God bless you monkey.

  • SnBG

    TitiesPryor,hehehehehehe

  • Raider O

Exactly. That’s my only concern with Carr. Weak conference.

  • SnBG

but he was on you’re top 3 list O?

  • 2romes

If will not serve a good pocket passer well if he does not get adequate protect. We all know that. So I can only imagine that you feel the O line is more that adequate to support a pure pocket passer.

  • NewEra S&B

Yes, and they went into OT with Rutgers and SD State, and it was a close game with HAWAII. If Carr was stellar he should have lit up the score board with those teams.

  • Raider O

I googled her images in that movie, and I wasn’t impressed. More impressed with Sofia Vergara

  • Raider O

    Go Aztecs!!
    Fear the Spear MFer!!
    SDSU is a powerhouse!

  • NewEra S&B

Yes, but we sleep sound knowing we actually have a good pocket passer behind our makeshift line getting pummeled, rather than a project developing hybrid QB getting sacked even when a solid pocket is formed. No?

  • RaidO

Crazy how a couple years ago this offense was an explosive top 10 offense. I think it has to do with coaching more then the players. Once the raiders finally have a healthy line and a good OC that can bring back that type of offense i think the Raiders will be back in the playoffs. JC was getting it done with just being a game manager but that was when DMAC was a top 3 RB. Pryor has an upside but does need a decent supporting cast, OC included to get the Raiders back on top.

  • Raider O

I do like him, but I have concerns about most players.
    Clowney: attitude
    Barr: size
    Evans : speed
    Watkins: size
    Etc…
