McGloin could be starter vs. Texans

Judging from the practice speed and body language of Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor during the media window Friday, Matt McGloin could well be the starter against the Houston Texans.

As the team went through drills, Pryor moved slowly and deliberately and mostly threw his passes at half-speed with no hard steps or authoritative throws. McGloin, by contrast, was doing repetitions at something closer to game speed and intensity.

The Raiders, 3-6, visit the Texans Sunday at Reliant Stadium.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen meets with the media following practice to give official injury designations. It’s conceivable Allen won’t divulge a starter Friday and simply list Pryor as questionable, meaning a 50-50 chance he could start.

In another development, right tackle Tony Pashos, who appeared on schedule to start after missing the last four games with a hip injury, was not on the field during the media window.

If Pashos doesn’t play, rookie Menelik Watson would make his second start at right tackle. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson Thursday sounded hopeful Pashos would play.

As someone who is also 8 3/4 I can back you up on that!

And it’s all true. Does he have physical prowess? Is our oline good in pass pro? Did he not go undrafted and would be a remarkable story ala Rudy if he becomes the franchise QB? The most important line that you should have quoted instead was “I’ll be rooting for him”.

  • Raider O

    He is 5’11.

Can he even jerk off with hands that small?

All I want is a guy who I trust to get the ball to his receivers. That includes passing ability, reading defenses and smart decision making. If Pryor can do those things, fantastic. I haven’t seen it. I’d like him to stop hiding that ability.

  • RediaR

    When you jerk Wilson off?

Well then allow me to jump in here and berate you for encouraging rooster jumping.

    Have to agree with you.
Pryor deserves the chance, regardless of how I’ve dogged him.
He’s put in the work. Has a great attitude. U have to be an idiot to not see that.

Well then I hope you know who you are placing McG’s fate’s hands in.

You really think our O-Line is all of a sudden going to pass protect or that our WRs will stop dropping passes?

Keep blaming the coaches and QBs guys. It’s what dumb fans do.

It’s not just the chance this year.

It’s the chance to get a solid offseason under his belt WITH THE SAME OFFESNIVE SYSTEM IN PLACE.

Which by the way, as much as I hammer our WR core, theyve never had the same system 2 years in a row either. I have to believe that has hurt them a ton and is a large part in why they dont play to their potential.

We need to keep this thing together, not tear it down. Add pieces to this puzzle, not start over. Now whether you think Reggie can actually help the offensive side of the ball is up for debate. But the process shouldnt be.

  • the invincible dr robert

change ur name to two cents worth.
    I refuse to give change

Its not about our patience as a fan base to break in a young QB its about his limitations at the QB position that has us frustrated.

We have seen Pryor’s ceiling and its not good. Now if he had shown good decision making the ability to make reads at the LOS and an accurate passing arm, most of us would be willing to weather the storm of a rookie QB’s growth but Pryor is not an NFL caliber QB period.

Read that McCants was back at practice today, great news. Next weeks game could have our OLine at 100%.
    McFadden out, again.
wonder if Sanford, Mady, or Nix will be released for Wilson’s 53rd roster spot.

Well…..you might also want receivers who come back and/or put themselves into a position of catching the ball.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Yes it is and you are into circle jerks so we do have something in common!

  • Raider_Riff

You dont know his ceiling after just half a season. Especially when you consider context, his supporting cast.

His “ceiling” is a 135 passer rating in the game vs the Chargers.

He was also putting up a 150 passer rating vs KC until the line fell apart and crap went south quick.

He also has the 4th highest single game QBR this season I believe.

If you want to condemn Pryor for being inconsistent, fine. Do so. He’s a lil guilty of that. But by definition, he should be. All QBs of his experience are. Which is why perspective is so important.

  • 10centsworth

I won’t/can’t argue the truth in that. I also see this kid breaking down…mentally, and I thought that was a strong point in him. He can be resigned. He can even be disgusted at his “plight”. Not on the field, or on the bench. And, I’m not sure I agree with this, his ability to master the playbook.

2012 Draft Class is dropping like flies. minor “surprise” cut could be Criner, Crawford or even Burris (if he’s not 100%)

    Guess not….

    BWAAHAHAHAHA

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lee_Higgins RaiderRockstar

ah yes, the good ole “small hands” debate. means a lot to the draft experts. Culpepper had that problem.

  • Raider_Riff

The drops werent a MAJOR issue.

But they were there. And they started to chip away at things.

A vet would have weathered it. Palmer did.

But that same vet in Palmer couldnt will his guys to get their act together. They are who they are.

Pryor let the drops not only affect the outcomes of games (understandable) but he let it affect his mental approach (something he needs to remedy by year 2).

  • RediaR

It would be Sanford. The guy who gets cut every other week. No need to fulfill your Reggie agenda.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

I appreciate your passion and how committed you are to Pryor but he is just not an NFL caliber QB. I don’t know how else to put it.

  • Raider O

I’m not sold on Johnny Football.
I rather have Mariota, Hundley, or Carr. I also like Boyd.
