Pryor out, McGloin starting Sunday

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, November 16th, 2013 at 12:36 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders declared quarterback Terrelle Pryor out for the Houston Texans game, which cleared the way for undrafted rookie Matt McGloin to make his first NFL regular-season start.
Pryor still is hobbled from the MCL sprain in his right knee that he suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 3. He played against the New York Giants last Sunday but was limited in his movement and effectiveness.
Pryor practiced some Wednesday but not much Thursday or Friday. That prompted coach Dennis Allen to shut down Pryor and turn over the reins to McGloin on Sunday.
McGloin set numerous records during a standout career at Penn State. However, he failed to impress teams enough to merit being drafted. The Raiders signed McGloin soon after the draft ostensibly as another quarterback to take reps in training camp so that the three ahead of him on the depth chart didn’t get overworked.
Ultimately, McGloin impressed coaches with his work ethic, intelligence and play, which led to his earning a spot on the opening-game roster.
The Raiders likely will sign Tyler Wilson from their practice squad and place him on their 53-man roster so that they have a backup quarterback Sunday.
Wilson was selected in the fourth round of this year’s NFL draft out of Arkansas. However, he got outperformed by McGloin and ended up being waived at the end of training camp. The Raiders re-signed Wilson a short time later and placed him on their practice squad.
McGloin will be the third starting quarterback for the Raiders this season. Pryor started eight games, with Matt Flynn starting in place of Pryor for one game before he was released.

I am just starting trouble. I have not seen anything that says the defendant is male

  • rifflicks

yeah…johnny is such a creative name

  • 0ak R8rs

There it is. Wilson signed. Sanford cut, for the 3rd week on a row. Haha

  • plunkhead

Jameis seems like he would be cool to go drinking with until you start thinking “is he gay or just real cool?”

  • DJ Johnny

The “Little Irish Bugger” will lead us to victory.
The “Electric Leprechaun” will save the day.
He’ll find his pot of gold…in the Texan endzone.

  • SnBG

A falling leaf could be the buster for him but that won’t happen as he truely is one of the great GM. Besides Reg hasn’t whiffed on a first rnd QB yet so it like taking the cart before the horse. Only Knuckleheads would keep Bobby out of the Hall.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

I’m gonna ask Cork during the chat if Sanford’s getting paid for any of this, ’cause he sure ain’t picking up game checks.

  • plunkhead

His great great grand daddy was probably named on the barren Texas range, Case made the saddle and colt made the gun

  • rifflicks

    Case makes knives too

  • Alex7

You get paid for the days you’re practicing or on the roster, absolutely. A couple thousand a week.

  • plunkhead

There you go, Bowie knives made by Case

  • SnBG

Johnny Football is a trademarked name.

  • rifflicks

    so???

  • 0ak R8rs

Yea. He definitely gets paid. But certainly no game checks. Hope he doesn’t have an incentive laden contract!

  • 0ak R8rs

Yea. If Manziel is there as a UDFA like McGloin, I might take a shot at him. I could see that.

  • lefty12

    He is still terrible.

  • 0ak R8rs

    Hahaha. So true.

  • RaidO

Raiders are 2 games out of the wild card?

    It’s not over.

Good luck Mad Matt.It sure would be nice if he showed he can really play at this level. After all,we haven’t had a drafted or UDFA rookie QB become any good since Stabler.

  • the ladylike dr robert

I’ll just bet u would love to take him, you personified cross posting boytoy

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Except for Steve Beuerlein two decades ago, it’s been a QB development drought since snake.

  • RaiderE

I, for one, am very happy to see Mcgloin get a shot tomorrow. Let’s face it. Pryor has been struggling, and it has been getting painful to watch.

  • SnBG

Just because I posted earlier that Namath had great legs doesn’t mean I’m gay. Although you’re kind of a cutie pie.

  • plunkhead

    new post

  • lefty12

He was OK but he became better after he was banished from the Raiders.

Closest thing I could find is a clip on his life story. Had him throwing a pass for a td (I guess, you don’t see the completion) and then jumping into Mike McQueary’s arms on the sideline.

  • funnyfalcon

Funny. If Joe Gibbs is in the hall, Beathard should be. Pretty terrible oversight by the HOF selection committee.

  • Bigmike34

Finally …A hard working guy with Character….who is a leader and understands the Game….and has a strong accurate Arm to go with those attributes….
This is an opportunity to take a Big step forward at the QB position…and a Big Step forward if McGloin can Deliver
