Pryor out, McGloin starting Sunday

The Raiders declared quarterback Terrelle Pryor out for the Houston Texans game, which cleared the way for undrafted rookie Matt McGloin to make his first NFL regular-season start.
Pryor still is hobbled from the MCL sprain in his right knee that he suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 3. He played against the New York Giants last Sunday but was limited in his movement and effectiveness.
Pryor practiced some Wednesday but not much Thursday or Friday. That prompted coach Dennis Allen to shut down Pryor and turn over the reins to McGloin on Sunday.
McGloin set numerous records during a standout career at Penn State. However, he failed to impress teams enough to merit being drafted. The Raiders signed McGloin soon after the draft ostensibly as another quarterback to take reps in training camp so that the three ahead of him on the depth chart didn’t get overworked.
Ultimately, McGloin impressed coaches with his work ethic, intelligence and play, which led to his earning a spot on the opening-game roster.
The Raiders likely will sign Tyler Wilson from their practice squad and place him on their 53-man roster so that they have a backup quarterback Sunday.
Wilson was selected in the fourth round of this year’s NFL draft out of Arkansas. However, he got outperformed by McGloin and ended up being waived at the end of training camp. The Raiders re-signed Wilson a short time later and placed him on their practice squad.
McGloin will be the third starting quarterback for the Raiders this season. Pryor started eight games, with Matt Flynn starting in place of Pryor for one game before he was released.

What the HELL are you talking about? Brees came in, completed 60% of his passes, threw for over 3000 yards right out of the gate. His third year he was 12-4 as a starter. It would take Terrelle Pryor TWENTY YEARS to get to 3000 yards passing at this rate. Do you ever think before you post?

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Russell Wilson is two inches shorter.

  • 0ak R8rs

Different competition. Doesn’t necessarily translate. I’m rooting for him big time, but there’s a big difference between Indiana university’s DL and the texans’

  • AutumnThunderstorm

    Oh we can accept that

  • rifflicks

the Defensive lines he played against in the BIG 10 were, and are huge

  • DJ Johnny

Reggies biggest “fault” (the qb situation) becomes what defines his genius when McGloin shocks the world.

  • seymour bush

Exactly. He might not have been playing the little sisters of the poor, but he wasn’t playing against JJWatt, Jonathon Joseph and Mercilus Whitney week in and week out either.

  • rifflicks

are you rubbing your rabbit’s foot as you post that?

  • AutumnThunderstorm

throws like him looks like him with the helmet on

  • seymour bush

You’re thinking he “shocks the world” in a good way right?

  • 0ak R8rs

Michigan and Ohio state maybe, that’s about it. The rest of the DL talent in the big 10 is mediocre. Wisconsin? Indiana? Michigan state? Not the same. Not even close.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

McGloin Supporters joined at the hip.

  • rifflicks

    BS…and Nebraska is Huge too

  • AutumnThunderstorm

    Raiders will be victorious

  • rifflicks

where are the Pryor supporters joined?

  • 0ak R8rs

Nebraska has sucked for a decade. Do you even watch college football?

  • rifflicks

you’re such a tool….who logs in for you??? mommie or your big sister

  • Blackholepriest

They dumped him once he hot injured. No one wanted him. Two teams bid on him out of 32 what does that tell ya’?
He was as bad as Steve Young prior to coming to the niners. It just takes time……..period

And you idiots will rip thus kid open if he doesn’t win tomorrow.

  • 0ak R8rs

I’m a tool? You’re the one comparing Indiana university and Nebraska to one of the fiercest DLs in the NFL. Today is Saturday. Turn off your cartoons and watch some football. Maybe you will learn something.

  • nolarick

Not because of talent, but because of injury concerns.

  • Blackholepriest

Ok! Adios! Hope you are all right. He turns into Tom Brady and takes us to e SB…….here here!

  • 0ak R8rs

That was essentially a trade for youth in Phillip rivers and fear of injury. Brees was far from god awful. I’m not gonna expend a bunch of energy defending a charger QB. But you’re wrong. It also doesn’t take Brees 4 years to get thrift his learning curve either, btw. It took about 18 months.

  • BLACKBONES

Yeah & play Marcel Reece at Tight End, then throw him the ball when our receiver’s don’t. Then when DMac is healthy, covert him to TE, he’ll never amount to much as a RB, he’s super quick with great hands and loves to block….what more should we want from a tight end

  • plunkhead

    Tyler will if Matt cant

  • RaidO

McGloin does not even have a college highlight video on youtube. Ha, What QB in the last 5 or so years has emerged as a quality QB without a youtube highlight video= NONE

Not saying that is a gauge for success but come on now..

  • plunkhead

    Who is bigger, taller
Johnny football or Colt McCoys little brother?

  • 0ak R8rs

Jameis Winston. 19/21 277 yards and 2 TDs.

    In the first half.

  • plunkhead

I thought it would be Johnny but Case is 6’2″ 200

  • plunkhead

Too bad he cant come out (no pun intended) this year. We wont stand a chance next year

  • 0ak R8rs

Guess I win. Again. That was easier than usual. But same result every time.

  • 0ak R8rs

Yea. He has to stay for 3 years I believe. So 2015 for him anyway.

  • J Hill

    WOW!

    Where is this coming from????

I actually thought Bridgewater looked had the suspect tendencies.

  • SnBG

Willy made a good point earlier. What GM hasn’t whiffed on a QB. If all of the GMs where fired for not picking great QBs there wouldn’t be any GMs in the league. We’ll see how it goes in the draft.

  • the batkid dan garcia

Winston has a long windup and delivery.

  • the batkid dan garcia

    Throws it like baseball.

  • DJ Johnny

    Yes.

  • SnBG

He’s not really going to get the chance to develop in that way. He’s a backup that will give way to Pryor.

  • SnBG

    or maybe something else?

  • DJ Johnny

…with my fingers crossed and avoiding walking under ladders.

  • DJ Johnny

You stole my joke…I was gonna say “that isn’t a rabbits foot.”

  • SnBG

McGloin is 6 1 and so is Manziel, maybe.

  • lefty12

    Big Ben is still terrible.

  • SnBG

If Manziel is there you have to take him.

  • SnBG

    sorry.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Bobby Beathard is universally regarded as one of the great GMs in history, yet he hasn’t sniffed the Hall of Fame. Why not?

    Two words: Ryan Leaf.

  • DJ Johnny

What kind of name is Case?…or Colt for that matter.
No offense if any of you named your kids that.

  • 0ak R8rs

This accusation against Winston is almost a year old. He hasn’t even been interviewed by police. I don’t think anything is gonna come of it. I forget why it came out last week. But it’s actually old news.

  • DJ Johnny

    I snoozed..I loozed.

  • 0ak R8rs

I think those r kind l cool boy names. If you live on a cattle ranch…..

  • SnBG

No Big B isn’t terrible. The guy can make magic out of nothing. He doesn’t have the line this year relative to his SB lines. Also the rap is that he doesn’t study enough. That leaked out yesterday and I wonder if it isn’t from the team because Ben has been rumored to want to leave.
