McFadden, Rivera, Jenkins at practice

By Steve Corkran
Monday, November 25th, 2013 at 5:39 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Running back Darren McFadden, tight end Mychal Rivera and cornerback Mike Jenkins are at practice tonight, though it’s anyone’s guess right now as to how much they’re able to do.
McFadden at least is moving around during the early portion of practice, while Jenkins and Rivera are standing on the side, watching. The fact that this is a light practice also makes it difficult to tell who’s full go, who’s limited and who’s in shut-down mode.
We’ll know more once the Raiders put out an official injury report, which they are required to do because it’s within four days of their next game.
Players will be available for media interviews at the conclusion of practice in about an hour.
Also of note, quarterback Matt McGloin worked on holding for kicks on a field off to the side. This, no doubt, is in response to kicker Sebastian Janikowski’s season-long struggles with his consistency.
Janikowski missed from 32 and 48 yards against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. He has missed seven field-goal attempts this season, which matches his misses from 2011-12 combined.
Deposed quarterback Matt Flynn got in some work as a holder earlier this season after Janikowski got off to a rocky start. Before long, things seemed fine with first-time holder Marquette King and Janikowski. Now, it appears as if special teams coordinator Bobby April is open to making a change.
More on that later. For now, it’s just something to file away as noteworthy.
Wide receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder), linebacker Kevin Burnett (quadriceps) and strong safety Tyvon Branch (ankle) aren’t at practice. Moore missed the Titans game. Burnett suffered his injury late in the Titans game. Branch hasn’t played since Sept. 15.

I think we could get 2 or 3, but there really aren’t a lot of BIG FAs expected to hit the market. I think Mack, Graham, Johnson and Hardy are going to be the biggest.

  • 10centsworth

Pman, there were two other guys like Cobb, Jerry Quarry and a dude from SoCal. Remember his name? Not really consider top contenders, but ready to step in the ring with anyone…and did.

  • DJ Johnny

I don’t know the extent of influence Reggie had in GB’s drafting or FA acquisitions. It’s always been widely assumed he played a fairly key role. Enough so that Ron Wolf and Madden recommended him for the job here.

  • 10centsworth

All white guys when Ali, Frazier, Foreman were reigning supreme.

  • 10centsworth

I’ll bet he’s making in the 5 mill a year, all told. Probably got all the toys. In his way, certainly a charmer.

So far as a GM, he has done very well with UDFA’s and late round picks.
That was prob his role over there. As an asst GM, he wasn’t making the 1st round picks or anything.

I can’t believe we lost to the Redskins.
    Even with Flynn.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Here’s a pic. you’ll recognize him.
And one from Raising Arizona,I think

  • 10centsworth

I predict 2/3 TOP FAs on each side of the ball. I’m stocking up on nails to chew on.

That “great” Redskins O-line suddenly doesn’t look so hot once their QB turns to poo-poo
    Hmmmmmmm……………

  • DJ Johnny

I can hear Charlie’s beeper going off all the way over here.

  • 10centsworth

Thanks. He kicked the bucket, or did you notice? I think he did.

  • 10centsworth

Mama Roo is still dispensing MoJo. Shakes her tail feathers and all is sublime.

  • DJ Johnny

..just a “little bit” though. He means he’ll only miss ONE crucial field goal but darnit…he’s gonna nail the next 32 yarder he sees.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I thought he had as well, but google and wikipedia know nothing about it. Guess he’s still kicking it at 63!

  • Rico Stifler

A DL guy I think is underrated who will be a FA is DT Alan Branch…

  • 10centsworth

And his job is…stress free. Really answer to no one, just come on and does his schtick.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

It tooka concerted effort. But we weren’t to be denied.

  • DJ Johnny

But evidence shows, and even Reggie has said… it isn’t until they acquired Reggie White that they got over the top.
He also mentioned how “it didn’t hurt we had Brett Favre as our QB”.
I think if there is one thing Reggie knows from his experience in GB is that you NEED that ELITE QB.
I’m being optimistic in suggesting that Flynn was merely, what he thought at the time, a capable stop gap who might keep us competitive for a season.

  • 10centsworth

Hey, maybe you can expand to a sentence? OH, you just did. Congratulations.

  • 10centsworth

    I think you are correct.

  • spiff

the difference between us and the niners…. they, like us can’t beat the tough teams. but they take care of the sorry teams.

  • 10centsworth

That other fighter was from Chatsworth, also fought the top guys. Wonder if he and Cobb fought each other?

  • spiff

sign jarred allen to a one year contract……..

  • DJ Johnny

Yes. Hopefully the good kind of history.

  • 10centsworth

Just had a thought. WHAT is this blog going to look like when we start winning? Ha. Ha. Peace and Harmony, good bon homme, love love love.

  • spiff

Flynn showed no heart against Washington…

  • spiff

    can’t wait……..

  • 10centsworth

I could deal with that. We thrived on “over the hill” and disenfranchised whackos, back in the daze. Let’s get our IDENTITY back while we’re at this winning thing. Amy is gone and we’ll twist RMs arm about that thingamajing “character” hangup he’s got. I want some spit in their eye guys, cheerleaders that party, and a “JUST WIN” attitude.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

You weren’t here before our last Superbowl?

  • DJ Johnny

You’ll have tr0lls from other teams coming here to try and cause trouble.
Plus..thery’ll be plenty here telling us it’s all a mirage.

  • 10centsworth

Glad I wasn’t here just after. Wonder if the Gannon lovers crowed poetic? Had such “romantic” memories? Was there a blog then?

  • 10centsworth

After wandering in the desert, lo these past years…I’ll take a mirage.

  • spiff

he could help n passing downs on the edge something we lack. the draft a pass rushing OLB . then we don’t have blitz our db’s as much as we do……..

  • 10centsworth

Screw you (I mean that kindly), THAT is your idea of the difference? I hope when we start winning, they all sit next to you at the Coliseum. I think the old time, true, die hard fans are almost rueing the thought of winning, knowing that…here they come.

  • DJ Johnny

…and yea a semite from the east (Al Davis) would settle in the west (Oakland) and yea he would build a great empire and rule for many moons.
His people would endure 7 years of wandering (7 losing seasons) Then he would be crucified and his legend passed to a son…yea with hair of white.
This one (Mark Davis) would bring the kingdom back to glory.
So let it be written ….so let it be done.

  • 10centsworth

    sobeit.

  • 10centsworth

None. And, sorry, truth be known, no crybabies leading MY team. Don’t know where that came from, but I embrace it.

  • spiff

my point is this year they only beat 1 good team this year. they’re 4 losses were against playoff teams. teams they should beat they did. unfortunately we don’t know how. when we start winning I invite you everyone else not only sit but have a drink with me………

  • 10centsworth

Yeah, I’d take that whacko from Miami. After all, we loved, and honor, 77…manic/depressive as he was. There wouldn’t have been no cheap shot on our receiver while he was on the field.

  • 10centsworth

I have to listen to the games. What WAS the other players reactions (ours) after that hit? Was it on our sideline?

  • 10centsworth

I know, sorry if you misunderstood me, just expressing a pet, life long, Raider peeve about Niners. I got into a verbal melee with one of the ogres on here about the term Raider. His claim/stance/ position/head in butt attitude is you aren’t a Raider unless you wear the uniform and play. THAT is the heart of the difference between old time RAIDERS (fans/team) and a lot of the younger fans. WE ARE THE RAIDERS!!!

  • spiff

    peace out beeecha’s …………!

  • 10centsworth

OK. Talking to myself, carrying on. Gotta find that dream I let go last nite.

  • DJ Johnny

Charlie, who comes here in the AM makes some good points about the line being crucial to a teams success but I think with this team you have to pick your battles and fix the glaring issues first.
I guess one of the issues that would include the dline at least is pass rush.
Whether it’s coming from an end or some speed rush from a linebacker we need to apply serious pressure to the QB.
It could have saved the game Sunday.

  • Goldie7

    Thanks man!

  • brad

can you tell us when that will be? Lmao

  • brad

Listen to his commentary! sounds like Madden sound bites! Everyone is great!
