McFadden, Rivera, Jenkins at practice

By Steve Corkran
Monday, November 25th, 2013 at 5:39 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Running back Darren McFadden, tight end Mychal Rivera and cornerback Mike Jenkins are at practice tonight, though it’s anyone’s guess right now as to how much they’re able to do.
McFadden at least is moving around during the early portion of practice, while Jenkins and Rivera are standing on the side, watching. The fact that this is a light practice also makes it difficult to tell who’s full go, who’s limited and who’s in shut-down mode.
We’ll know more once the Raiders put out an official injury report, which they are required to do because it’s within four days of their next game.
Players will be available for media interviews at the conclusion of practice in about an hour.
Also of note, quarterback Matt McGloin worked on holding for kicks on a field off to the side. This, no doubt, is in response to kicker Sebastian Janikowski’s season-long struggles with his consistency.
Janikowski missed from 32 and 48 yards against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. He has missed seven field-goal attempts this season, which matches his misses from 2011-12 combined.
Deposed quarterback Matt Flynn got in some work as a holder earlier this season after Janikowski got off to a rocky start. Before long, things seemed fine with first-time holder Marquette King and Janikowski. Now, it appears as if special teams coordinator Bobby April is open to making a change.
More on that later. For now, it’s just something to file away as noteworthy.
Wide receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder), linebacker Kevin Burnett (quadriceps) and strong safety Tyvon Branch (ankle) aren’t at practice. Moore missed the Titans game. Burnett suffered his injury late in the Titans game. Branch hasn’t played since Sept. 15.

He is a stud pro bowl kicker. He’s struggling with a new holder who doesn’t get the ball in the right fricking spot and now the coach’s are considering a new holder for a SECOND time. Don’t read something fellow American, you might learn something

  • spiff

    shannahan’s fired….

You can say testicles without getting moderated? Interesting.

    Eddie Borsilli ‏@Borsilli9m

Was told by a pretty good source tonight that Jon Gruden is never coming back to coaching. Take it for what it’s worth. Never say never

  • 1960AutumnWind

I said it before they now have there best QB in years in Tenn they are a playoff team. Watch out Colts. However 30/42 with 5 drops and 5 throwaways is not all about the QB but a lack of basic pass defense.

  • Rico Stifler

Don’t forget, QB is also the most important position on the team. Their TE is on IR, Randall Cobb, their best WR, is still out with injury i think. So it isn’t just Rodgers they are missing.

Also, This is RM’s first time as GM. I never expected him to hit a home run with his first coaching hire.

I, personally, have never pointed to GB’s roster for anything. The only time I have ever mentioned GB in regards to RM was that I wanted him to hire Dom Capers as HC.

RM is still learning on the job. He isn’t gonna hit on everything, no GM does. To think a first-time GM won’t make mistakes is flat out asinine.

People also seem to forget that $50 we got to spend does NOT include the salaries of players we already got…FAs. So in effect, they are gonna take a relatively small bite out of that figure to resign. Our draft choices are also relatively inexpensive now. So. Figure that out, how much we got to spend on BlueChip FAs.

  • RaidingTexas

Right, that’s my point. He did well. The draft was crippled, but he wheeled and dealt to get back those picks. Other than Wilson, none of these guys can be considered busts yet. Unlike JFB, I’m not going to use a half season with some injury issues as evidence of failure. Hayden and Watson could both be playmakers by next fall.

  • Big Tom ‘the hand’ Cable

Redskins are really really bad. Ball suckin bad.

  • Rico Stifler

I know of Givens as being a hit or miss WR. Also, centers are usually drafted mid-round anyways, so that isn’t a real surprise to me.

  • 10centsworth

    Randle Cobb. Remember him, Pman?

  • seymour bush

    Damn. My mistake!

  • 10centsworth

All’s forgiven, you “loose that cross posting fknut tr0ll has nothing else to do with it’s life.” Just paraphrasing.

  • Rico Stifler

GB is missing Rodgers, Cobb and Finley…. Three starters are currently out.

  • Rico Stifler

I mentioned Cobb in my first paragraph.

  • _Mista_

Never in my life seen a kicker blame his holder.

When you get up off your knees wipe your chin.

    Lame.

  • 10centsworth

    The fighter? Tex Cobb?

  • Rico Stifler

I expect us to go after some of the bigger FAs cuz of how much cap space we’re gonna have. people keep saying that isn’t the GB way, but so what? We are required to spend like 89% of it and we can’t do that be only signing one-year deals.

  • RaidingTexas

Issues for sure yesterday. Two steps forward, one back. Been like that all season. Growing pains. They’re still way better than recent seasons.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

He will only come back for probably a handful of jobs.
    Alabama, Notre Dame, New England.
The only way he would come work for us is if we offered him an ownership stake.

  • Rico Stifler

But then again, how many kickers have the same holder for their entire career and then suddenly have a new one? Most kickers are used to having different holders. Jano got used to the ball being held a certain way cuz he had Lechler for 13 years.

  • DJ Johnny

You know one of the greatest things that GB did while Reggie was there? Acquired Brett Favre. The second greatest thing? Paid BIG MONEY for a flashy free agent named Reggie White.
Reggie mentioned another HUGE thing they did in that preseason interview: Acquired Charles Woodson…another splashy free agent.
These moves are exactly what most people feel Reggie absolutely WILL NOT do with Oakland.
Reggie’s gonna “build it the right way”.
That “right way” is assumed to be thru frugal, middling free agent acquisitions and crafty draft picking.
They lucked into Rodgers at # 22 in the draft and the rest is SB history and sustained success ever since.
I don’t assume Reggie is going to fail in Oakland. I don’t want to have to search for a new GM and start over. I really don’t.
All we can do is hope he knows what he’s doing. In the absence of winning…it’s all we can do.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Only as an actor. Always liked him.

  • 10centsworth

And some guys who are gonna be…GONE. Perhaps we will have the most money to spend in NFL history. See, Raiders, we do have a shot at history next year.

  • trogPOUNDA

    why flynn whyyyyyyy

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

He has made ONE Pro Bowl.
As many as Vince Young and Tim Tebow.

  • Rico Stifler

Unless you meant a different Cobb. lol

  • 10centsworth

He was actually a very good actor. He was also tough as they come, fought some VERY good fighters, the best around.

  • Big Tom ‘the hand’ Cable

We’ll then get that man some stake. No brainer.

  • Rico Stifler

With the amount of cap space we will have, we almost have to go after a few big players in FA cuz we’re required to spend like 89% of the cap space…

  • _Mista_

    Pitiful.

  • spiff

    might be a tough sell………

  • 10centsworth

Yeah, maybe before your time. Randall “Tex” Cobb. Heavyweight, took a good punch (a lot of them), fought everyone that would get in the ring with him. Tough dude. Not great, but earned his paycheck.

  • Rico Stifler

    Not familiar with that Cobb.

  • 10centsworth

Also made a lot of movies, from bikers movies to action (Chuck Norris type fliks) to comedy. Actually enjoyable in his roles.

Lets not bury the guy. He had a couple where he should have made it.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Not like if you don’t spend it they will cancel the games.
Prob just a fine if you don’t, a reverse luxury tax thing.
We MIGHT land one big FA, prob just give our guys a bunch of pay raises and keep with the mid-level guys.

  • spiff

is this a fact or an educated guess about what r.mac. did in green bay………….?

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Not burying him, but he hasn’t even been the best kicker in our division most years.
    2013 = another one

  • 10centsworth

The Chargers have had parallel kickers to ours. ALWAYS enjoyed going in around noon and watching them compete against each other. Probably the best four kickers in football, for a period of time.

  • Raiders for Life

Without going into to much detail the defensive players are actually pretty good. They got torched yesterday and got bent over by Philly, but much improved at times. I think Reg got some good bargains there.
Offense, the dang O-line shuffle has been a disaster. Wide outs are sub par. The Raiders don’t have a QB and I’m starting to doubt Olson’s play calling.
I think the Raiders are still a few years away from being legit.
The draft and FA next offseason will make or break Reg. Or we could see another complete turnover of staff, hard to tell.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Remember him saying something like “I don’t care who the champ is in the ring, if we meet in a dark alley, I’m the one walking out.”

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

A sober Aldon Smith looks like a major problem for the rest of the league moving forward.

  • Rico Stifler

“Penalties for violating or circumventing the cap and floor regulations include fines of up to $5 million for each violation, cancellation of contracts and/or loss of draft picks.”

Yeah, I don’t think RM even wants to think about spending less than what he is required to….

  • 10centsworth

That WAS his attitude. Probably true, I would have liked to see him in ultimate fighting.

  • spiff

or a boat load of cash, along with boats and ho’s

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Not saying they are going to, they will figure it out.
But I wouldn’t be surprised if we push that 89% boundary.

  • spiff

    so much for SF losing……….
