Veldheer working at left tackle, Barnes at left guard

Veteran Jared Veldheer is working at left offensive tackle in practice today, with Khalif Barnes replacing Lucas Nix at left guard. The former was expected, the latter speculated about.
Veldheer entered this season as the incumbent left tackle. However, he suffered a triceps injury in training camp that necessitated surgery. He spent most of the past 3 1/2 months recovering from his injury and working his way back into shape.
Coach Dennis Allen and Veldheer said the plan is for Veldheer to make his 2013 debut Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys. If so, that would be Veldheer’s first game action of any kind since last season.
Nix has been inconsistent at left guard. As a result, it makes sense that the Raiders would consider moving Barnes to guard.
Barnes has vast experience at both tackle spots. He has played guard once in a regular-season game. That came in 2010 when he played 31 snaps as a backup.
Barnes has played mostly right tackle since he joined the Raiders in 2009. However, once he moved to left to fill in for Veldheer this season, the Raiders signed veteran Tony Pashos to play right tackle.
Pashos has played well enough to remain in the starting lineup, which gives the Raiders the flexibility of playing Barnes at guard.

– Tight end Mychal Rivera and cornerback Mike Jenkins are at practice for the second straight day despite suffering concussions Sunday.
Rivera said Monday night that he has been cleared to practice and play in games. Jenkins was limited at practice Monday, and he seemed less than full strenght today.
Linebacker Kevin Burnett also is on the field once again, showing no lingering effects from the quadriceps bruise he suffered Sunday. He appears to be ready to go for the Cowboys game.

– Wide receiver Denarius Moore, defensive end Jason Hunter and strong safety Tyvon Branch are the only three players not at practice. They also weren’t in attendance Monday night.
Therefore, it’s unlikely that any of the aforementioned trio will play Thursday.

– Running back Darren McFadden is at practice for the second straight day, as well. At one point, he took some reps, which we haven’t seen since he suffered a hamstring injury against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 3.
McFadden said he felt well enough to play against the Titans, but he opted to sit out one more game so that he has a better chance of holding up the final five games.
Regardless, it’s likely that Allen is going to lean on Rashad Jennings more than McFadden once McFadden returns, given Jennings rushed for 413 yards the past four games, which is more than McFadden amassed in seven games.

Jerry Rice says he still sees Terrelle Pryor as the future quarterback of the Oakland Raiders. @RicBucher @townsendradio

  • JOn Wooah

Romo and Rod woodson today said Tp2 gives them the best chance at winning.. Rod Woodson said he is hardly impressed with mgloin.

Btw I stil lthink Mgloin should be starter.. just interesting take from guys in the league. u dig

  • Gdog

Porter only if there aren’t upgrades available… the guy is solid but has sheet for brains (I rewatched that TD he gave up, he looked at that WR the entire play and left him alone to stand wide open at the one yard line. WHY? There was no one else in his zone.)
And ALL teams that want to remain competitive have to reward their best players with premier contracts after they PAID THEIR DUES!!. What else are they going to tell them? That we don’t have enough cap space??? You don’t run a business by not rewarding your top performers for jobs well done! Ask Dave Ramsey!

  • 24

Jenkins has been more lock down than Porter this year IMO

  • R8erEduc8er

It’s a still photo…I don’t know what you’re seeing but the only person open in this still photo is the guy who caught the winning TD.

  • Gdog

I for one, am not holding my breath. I could see Reggie letting ALL of our best players go… if he thinks he can find someone cheaper (like Flynn last year.)

  • 0ak R8rs

Look. Idc what you wanna believe. Typical overreaction around here tho. Porter gives up a pass in the opener, most the guys around here want him cut. Pryor has a bad game in terrible circumstances in KC, we need to convert him to WR. And quitting/choking/loser has TWO GOOD GAMES and now he’s erased 10+ years of NFL futility and is bound for the HOF? Absolutely hilarious. Whatever.

Lets see what everyone has to say when he doesn’t win a playoff game for the 11th straight year if his career. They’ve won two home games. One against a crap team and another against a team in a downward spiral. Whoopie!!!

  • Gdog

After McGloin face plants he should get his job back… correct. Then if Pryor face plants again we FOR SURE know we need to draft a QB in the first round. These things have to be crystal clear for Reggie, or he will just try and pick up a QB on the cheap again…

  • 0ak R8rs

You don’t have any “brahs”. Call upstairs to your mommy. See if he will make you a ham sammich. And make sure to get your homework done tonight. Finger painting again, right?

  • Davy Jones

Cue the trashing of Clayton, Rice, Romo, and Woodson. Or at least their football opinions.

  • 0ak R8rs

Can’t get every guy. It’s nowhere close to a whiff. Claiming a whiff on a draft pick one year in the league, particularly a CB or WR or QB is just plain football ingnorance. Not even worth arguing.

  • seymour bush

Those guys aren’t in the league. They WERE in the league. And with thoughts like that, now you know why they are OUT of the league.

  • 0ak R8rs

I show you stats and toughness. You say he gets pushed back. Maybe. Sometimes. Like every other OL. Sometimes. Fact is he’s been effective and dependable. One of the few OL that have been. Whether he gets pushed back occasionally or not.

  • 0ak R8rs

Still not funny. Still not amusing. Still competing for “most pointless” on this board along w Al_is.

  • 0ak R8rs

If you haven’t heard it yourself, don’t believe it. He’s a liar. Got caught like 3 times last night. Repeating his Clayton lie tonight.

  • HELLSBELLS

    He is an OLB.

  • Gdog

Is this how Tarver drew this play up? Third and 7 with the game on the line, and BOTH CBs were 8 yards off the LOS? REALLY??

  • 0ak R8rs

Not same as last year. I didn’t give him crap till about week 12. I was one of his biggest supporters. Just got tired of the pick 6s and strip sacks at crucial times. Then I looked at his career, and it was the same for a decade. Then he quit on us just like he did in Cincy.

And Malcolm Floyd was a beast at ND btw. Not sure what happened to him last year, but like CBs, it takes most rookie WRs a year or so to learn the game and become effective.

  • Morilla_00

Romo also wants the Raiders to sign Tebow.

  • Al_is_theraiders

    ….smh

  • HELLSBELLS

Barns might be a decent guard. He could always run block pretty good. Huge upgrade over that pos Nix.

  • 0ak R8rs

And Indy is a crappy team right now, in case you haven’t noticed. Haven’t won a game since their #1 WR went down.

AZ has won two home games an quitting/choking/loser has managed not to put then in a position to lose. Big deal.

  • 0ak R8rs

Still didn’t happen. Have your mommy tuck you in, go to sleep, and dream some more.

  • 0ak R8rs

Wonder of the alignment would be the same w Jenkins and Porter or Hayden, vs the two below average corners that were out there in Adams and Chekwa.

  • Gdog

Well maybe so.. but if that was how the play was drawn up for 3rd and 7. Crimonies!! They were out of FG range. A stop and the game could have been over on a 4th and short… which we haven’t been too bad at lately.

  • SnBG

It’s important to see McGloin for the rest of the year.

  • Al_is_theraiders

    its incredibly stupid.

  • HELLSBELLS

Anyone like the DE from Clemson. A little light in the pants but he can get after the passer. Might be around when we pick.

  • SnBG

Porter and Jenkins would be playing more man to man. They’re better at it than the two in the photo

  • HELLSBELLS

Do you think they think he could be the long term answer?

  • SnBG

You’re a welch Gdog so you’re opinion isn’t credible. You know you lost that bet with me and aren’t man or woman enough to admit it.

  • SnBG

It would be a disservice to the franchise if Reg doesn’t take the best QB when we pick.

  • 0ak R8rs

More lies. Listened to the Woodson interview. Had a tough time getting through it, since at the beginning he said “he hopes Tennessee gives McGloin a bunch of different looks now that they have tape on him, and the advantage goes to the defense”. Pretty much tells me what Woodsons agenda is. Anyway, agenda aside, he never said he wasn’t impressed by McGloin. He said he wanted to see more. Repeat success. Not just a game or two. Just keep spewing lies, I’ll just sit here and fact check your crap.

  • HELLSBELLS

Guess it depends where we pick. Can not just take a QB if we pick a little to late to grab one of the top ones. Would take Johnny or Carr. The later is starting to grow on me.

  • HELLSBELLS

If Johnny or Carr is still on the board when we pick.

  • 0ak R8rs

Agreed. I don’t like defense playing 1 yard behind he sticks anymore than I like WRs running 6 yard routes when they need 7 for a first down.

  • SnBG

Who knows, that’s why they need to see him develop this year. My gut says he isn’t.

  • 0ak R8rs

We know you can recognize stupidity. You see it every morning when you shave.

  • Heck Legler

LB is a strength for us but if Bridgewater and Clowney are gone and Barr is available, we need to grab him. He is a monster and will be even better in the pros.

  • Gdog

You are either a liar, lazy, or a moron… as soon as you reminded me of what the bet was I paid your cyber shot! And then I said I paid it 10 minutes later after you whined about it again. This is the THIRD time you have whined about it… do I need to pay it FOUR times? Cheers.. you won your bet by ONE carry. Congrats!!

    Jeesh. Kids these days!!

  • Gdog

Well, apparently this moron is too lazy to scroll down to see this post too! . Screw him. I don’t like having to hold peoples hands in negotiating a forum.

  • 0ak R8rs

That would actually be a pretty good scenario. Be better for one of them to take over and do well.

  • 0ak R8rs

    It’s “welsh”

  • SnBG

Makes sense but this draft is loaded with QBs. Manziel,Carr,Mettenburger are all projected to go around the time we may pick. If one of those guys are left at the time we pick then, get one of them. The best on the board.

Gee, wonder why Rod Woodson would prefer Pryor when Charles Woodson clearly thinks defenses have more trouble facing McGloin?

Now Romo? Well, two weeks ago right after the win over the Texans, on the Comcast channel he sai we shokd ho back to TP. Then, after hearing McG’s presser, he said he liked McG.

Romo is fun, full of passion, emotional, illogical…and crazy.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Yep, he keeps beating tghat drum.
