End 3rd qtr: Raiders 21, Cowboys 21

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, November 28th, 2013 at 4:08 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Cowboys scored on a 4-yard run by DeMarco Murray and were at the Raiders’ 17-yard line with first-and-10 to open the fourth quarter.

Dallas has gotten a spark from undrafted free agent running back Lance Dunbar, who has rushed for 77 yards in the quarter against a previously stout run defense.

…but went from 5-11 and then a fumble away from the SB in one season.
Why did they fire Singletary? Coaching doesn’t matter.
    Wait..it does?

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

You don’t think Sean Payton is a top coach?
You’re not right, but even if you were, you’d have to acknowledge that Brees is experienced.
BTW, what about the Saints last year w/out their coach? Not too good.

  • 10centsworth

Jesus, disqus progeny, we lost and you want us to think about the Niners. Take this guys pass for insanity away.

  • RediaR

I liked that Ford wasn’t returning punts. I didn’t like that that meant a larger role in the offense. Get this guy off the field and don’t throw it to him on an endzone fade with the game on the line.

  • Back-N-Black

that wasn’t Singletary’s fault. It was Alex Smith. Harbaugh isn’t the reason for the improvement. Its Kap that deserves all the credit. Take away the QB and Harbaugh is Dennis Allen in red and gold. ;)

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

That’s it–winning teams have units that have been together for some time, even if they have no Pro Bowlers on that unit.

  • Michael

Fired a good coaching staff? Wasn’t that the staff with chuck b as the d coordinator? You know, the guy who had rolondo cover megatron ?

  • lefty12

Your reality is full of fallacies but I think the real reason for your misguided comment is you are upset knowing the Raiders are and will continue to be the Oakland Raiders.

  • DJ Johnny

..but it was Alex Smith who QB’d them that yr of the turnaround.

  • Rico Stifler

I’d take Orakpo. Would rather have James Jones than Jacoby Jones. But Eric Decker could be hitting the market and, imo, he is the best WR who is slated for FA after this season. I had wanted to try and go after Browner, but now he is facing a year-long suspension. Biggers was actually pretty bad in TB before he signed with thew Redskins. Not too sure that he could be doing good considering how badly the ‘Skins D was getting torched this season. Tarell Brown, Tillman and TJ Ward are some of the DBs I like that could hit FA.

Mack is the second best D-player in the draft to me after Barr, but I think we need to get a QB badly in the first unless we make a trade for Cousins. I heard Tuitt is returning to ND next year. Not sure about Grice though. I think Seastrunk, Sankey and Carey are the RBs I like the most this year. I really wanted us to draft Giovani Bernard this past draft. What we do in FA will directly affect who we draft in 2014.I hope we sign C Alecx Mack, if not, I am high on G David Yankey in the draft, if he declares. I am also huge on Fresno State’s Derek Carr and Davante Adams.

  • Back-N-Black

dam it! thought I had you there… lol

  • 10centsworth

If they could just convert a split once in awhile, I’d be happy. And besides, you ever hiked a bowling ball in the the shotgun? Ugly. Those hot reads can get tricky, too. Yards after catch goes way down.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I get to keep the better half fairly nuevo with Mac gear and Os’s and suffer as IT guy, I get the windows dregs as a reward. On a 2003 compaq laptop right now. 40 whole gb’s

  • seymour bush

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner!! Exactly right.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Grads didn’t have this guy’s arm and accuracy . Grads had a lot of nervous energy and rah-rah.
This guy is a very quick learner.

  • Rico Stifler

I’d be ecstatic if we were able to get Carr in round 1 and Adams in round 2. Having a familiar weapon for Carr will really help his transition to the NFL. it’d help Adams too. They have great chemistry on the field.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    I don’t want Cutler. Ever.

  • Rico Stifler

Me neither, but sadly, he is the best QB slated for FA after the season….

  • Back-N-Black

you think the undrafted rookie QB making his 3rd start was given the freedom to check to that play or was it a called play all the way?

  • 10centsworth

Boy, there’s grist for this mill. “a good QB gets cut.” This blog would go rabid.

  • DJ Johnny

No…it’s all good man. I like your posts and your stances.
We all want the same thing…well most of us anyway.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I’ve seem him audible a fair amount.

  • RaiderCDE

Yeah that one – the one that had a winning record (till the last game of the season) and were playoff contenders. Amazing how people have been duped thinking this staff is better with their 8-20 record. 2-14 on the road? Yeah we’re definitely waayyy better off now.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    ford’s done tho’. Here

  • Back-N-Black

thats not an answer… was this an audible or a called play?

  • 10centsworth

    Reality. The horse is dead.

  • RediaR

I don’t know. I’d just rather throw it up to Barnes than to Ford. That should have gone to Holmes and it probably would have been a TD.

McGloin hasn’t come out against the idea of audibling, like Pryor did, though.

  • Michael

    Completely different rosters.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

I am stupefied by the “oh, he’s just okay” comments about McGloin.
I sat in the stadium and watched Stabler come in for Lamonica/Blanda now and then when Darryl would hit his hand on the helmet of a Chief (always happened when he was stymied by then in big games) and when old George, bless his heart, just couldn’t get things going.

Stabler had sat on the bench a few years to learn the pro game. That’s how it was done in those days, but as I said, he’d amble in now and then and seemed pretty darned ordinary.
Stood behind a line that rarely let anyone in when he did finally take over for good, made dart throws as Curt Cowdy used to say, lofted the ball and let guys like Branch run under them.
No one was less spectacular in terms of the kind of things some of you guys want in a qb (big arm like Flacco, football brainiac and arm of Manning, etc.) than Ken Stabler.
Yet….you know the rest of the story.
By damn, I see no difference between him and McGloin except that Snake played for a perennial playoff team and championship contender with one of the biggest and meanest and best O-lines ever assembled in the history of pro ball and his D wasn’t too bad either.

Oh, and his receivers were pretty good too.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

He’d say, ‘Oy vey’ and walk away.

  • lefty12

How can anyone not calling the plays or not in the huddle answer that?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Nonsense! You’re getting more progressive!

  • Back-N-Black

I guess we can’t… just interesting to speculate. Was just wondering what others thought.

  • RediaR

From this logic I would think whatever High School Chucky B is coordinating right now, would be able to guide us to the playoffs.

  • seymour bush

That was a designed play. And McGloin made the right read. He had a guy singled up where he wanted. The problem is Jacoby Ford is not an NFL receiver. And their corner is an NFL corner. And you saw what happened when you match NFL players against scrubs.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    Yeah, by damn he does.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

YOu don’t need a “messiah” to win football games. You need a team.

  • DJ Johnny

I’m really ticked off at the way the season has turned.
Contrary to accusations, I NEVER predicted we would make the playoffs this yr. I HOPED we would and on weeks we win I will talk pro-Raider smack for fun..cuz it’s usually a light hearted optimistic week when we win.
I was wrong. I thought we were turning the corner.
I’m not sold on DA. Never was. Was never “not sold” on him. My jury was out.
I’m now leaning toward that I don’t think he’s the guy.
In his own words he admitted he made a mistake on that last critical play vs Titans.
I don’t think we were out matched…except on the coaching end.
Coaching can determine the outcome of games if it comes down to one crucial play. A crucial season turning play.
If DA decides to “put pressure” on Fitz MAYBE we win that game.
    We’ll never know.

  • 10centsworth

    Jack Benny.

  • the authoritative dr robert

    Objectively undeniable.

  • Morilla_00

It’s dark, but I always try to stay positive. This looks ten fold better than the past. There are some gems. Just give it some time. Coaches, who knows. I think DA gets one more year.I might not agree with myself but I think that’s how it plays out. In 2 years I see a strong unit.

  • 10centsworth

Admit it. That’s two in two days I’ve snared.

  • DJ Johnny

How many fumbles, and bad route running does it take to convince the powers that be?

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Gee, if it’s customary that teams hold onto leads, I’d expect the NFL to cancel the remainder of the games once someone scores and the other side gets a chance to tie, like overtime….but that’s not how the game is played. It DOES have 4 quarters and they don’t award victories to the team that first gets on the board.

  • lefty12

Of course he took the blame-responsible coaches do that.He isn’t like the former coach who never took any blame and threw the players under the bus.

  • 10centsworth

Is this a burgeoning stupification? A virus that could leak into our homes? I’m ok, had it so often, I’m immune. My burgeoning has stopped and my stupidity remained constant. My Doc says I got the stupid quotient of a 6 year old and I cancelled my medical insurance.

  • RediaR

The guys I worry about are the ones who don’t admit the mistakes. Not that I am sold on DA. I’m more anti the guys who have been anti DA since day 0 of his tenure.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Was your insurance comprehesive?

  • 10centsworth

    Subjectively deniable. I’m selfish. Denied.

  • RaiderCDE

Thats my point. The winers drafted very well for years (8 to be exact) and built a real squad from the inside out – and then got the right GM and coach and now they will be contenders for a long time. 80% + of their roster was drafted and are on long term deals and the FA’s they have brought in have been solid.

Reggie has shown us that he is mostly terrible in the draft and has already literally squandered 2 drafts as well as thrown millions down the toilet in 18 months since he’s been on the job. That’s what people need to be concerned and pissed off about – not Pryor vs McGloin or losing another heartbreaker game.
