Allen doesn’t see any quit in his players

ALAMEDA – Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Friday that he intends to stick with Matt McGloin as his starting quarterback for now. However, Allen also wants to get another look at Terrelle Pryor before this season ends.
It’s all part of Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie gathering as much information as possible on their quarterback situation before they head into the offseason.
“I don’t think he’s done anything to play himself out of that position,” Allen said of McGloin, who started the past three games in place of Pryor.
At the same time, Allen stopped short of anointing McGloin the unquestioned starter the final four games.
Most important, the Raiders need to have a firm grasp on what they have in McGloin and Pryor. To that end, Allen said he wants to see more of Pryor this season, too.
“We need to have a good evaluation of what we have at the quarterback position as we move forward,” Allen said. “These last four weeks will be instrumental in us being able to do that.”
Next year’s NFL draft is regarded as a quarterback-rich one. The Raiders can’t afford to overlook that position if they aren’t sold on either McGloin or Pryor as the long-term answer at a position that has been unsettled since Rich Gannon retired.
Pryor backed up McGloin the past two games – he sat out a third game with a right MCL sprain — and he is the only other quarterback on the roster now that the Raiders waived rookie Tyler Wilson, a fourth-round draft pick in April.
The Raiders hitched their fortunes to Matt Flynn as soon as they traded incumbent Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals and acquired Flynn via trade with the Seattle Seahawks.
By the end of training camp, it became apparent that Pryor was the better option as the starter for the regular-season opener.
Pryor played well enough in his first four starts to validate Allen’s decision. In the midst of that four-game stretch, the Raiders waived Flynn on the heels of a disastrous start in place of an injured Pryor.
Then came a lackluster four-game stretch in which Pryor had eight passes intercepted, completed 50.8 percent of his passes and recorded one touchdown pass, some of that while Pryor played with a hurt knee.
McGloin sparkled in relief of Pryor against the Houston Texans, and then played well enough against the Titans and Cowboys for Allen to stick with him for the foreseeable future.
Yet, there’s also the matter of next season and beyond, especially since the Raiders are 4-8 and close to being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

– Allen said he’s more concerned than usual about the players that suffered injuries against the Cowboys because there’s only a month left in the season.
Right guard Mike Brisiel (knee), running backs Rashad Jennings (concussion) and Jeremy Stewart (ankle/knee), linebacker Kaluka Maiava (calf), safety Usama Young (neck) and cornerback Mike Jenkins (stinger) got hurt against the Cowboys.
Darren McFadden is healthy enough to handle a full workload if Jennings isn’t cleared to play against the New York Jets on Dec. 8, Allen said. McFadden returned Thursday from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for most of four games.

– The Raiders are assured a non-winning season for the 11th straight season. They finished 8-8 twice during that span.
Some of those teams came under fire for players tuning out the coach or throttling down once things went south. Allen is confident that his players won’t go down that road.
“When you watch us play and you watch us work every day, there is absolutely nothing that would give me any indication that there is anybody in that locker room that has any give up in them,” Allen said.
Long-time observers routinely mention how hard the Raiders play under Allen and his staff. At some point, Allen said, the hard work will manifest itself in more victories.
“I like the guys that are in that locker room,” Allen said. “I understand where we’re at from a record standpoint, but these guys have gone out there and given us everything that they’ve had every single week. I continue to expect to see that for the last four weeks of the season.”

– Khalif Barnes’ first NFL start at guard didn’t go quite as well as planned, Allen said. However, he got better as the game progressed and is considered an option at the position moving forward.

– Left offensive tackle Jared Veldheer played every snap Thursday in his first game action since last season.
“He held up good,” Allen said. “I saw him (Friday) morning, and he said he was feeling pretty good, so he got out of that clean.”
Allen planned on spelling Veldheer with Matt McCants from time to time, but Veldheer’s surgically repaired triceps didn’t present any issues.

– Strong safety Tyvon Branch (ankle) worked out with team trainers Friday. Allen said he is hopeful that Branch will return to game action soon. Branch missed the past 10 games.

Of course he knows what adjustments are, you dumbass.
He needs the players, which he will have next year.
I’m onboard both with Reggie and Da.
    Ebony and Ivory.
    Freckles and Hooters.
    Love it, live it.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Whatever. You’re 53 years old, obviously bitter about your sad, wasted life, and have nothing better to do than troll fans of a team you obviously hate.

  • M.Shorter

You guys are so quick to bash our coaches. 2nd year into our rebuild and people need to get fired already. Cmon. An example is Tom C. Giants had 2 horrible years of coaching. Then Super Bowl win after those 2 years with the same coach. Ish takes time people!!

  • Jonathan V.

Reggie is a good evaluator of talent of players who have already been in the league. EX: most of our free agents. There’s maybe only a couple of his draft picks from this year that seem to have potential which is a good thing because not all pick pull through. Some of his decision making is terrible tho like trading for Flynn and trying to go after freeman. And Idc If you guys think it’s not a bust but to go after a player who nearly died and say you would pick him at 3 is just scary. Hayden almost died but he didn’t go after star who’s issue didn’t even bother him and u see that in how hes playing this year. Idk about 1st round picks and such. Who’s to say he’ll make the right decision with our money next year??? And picks another questionable player with our first rounder?? Idk just some thoughts.

    LOL @ sarcasm

In the draft, we cannot afford ONE failed pick. The GM to herald himself as a great GM, able to entirely rebuild in ONE season, needs to HIT every single pick. Make a number of clever trades up/down, trade rostered players for more picks, and HIT more picks. Reggie had to do that with the 2013 draft, but instead it’s been the total opposite. A whole bunch of incredibly speculative picks, and position choices. 95% of them all not even starters, let alone good ones.

Ha. Wife locked me out. Said she was tired of coming home to the pigsty.
I have wifi. I can still post on the porch.

  • M.Shorter

Lemme add to my comment and say we have no impact players/game changers and we still compete.

  • KoolKell

    Then EDIT it, you dumbass.
You remind me of the dog who stares up at the rain, wondring why he’s getting wet.

  • Gdog

You aren’t the sharpest tool in the shed are you? If I hated this team why would I be pissed they keep peeing games down their leg every week? I’d be looking for EXCUSES like you!!

    This dog don’t hunt… sorry.

  • M.Shorter

Dont tell me what to do old man.

  • marks hair

    but da sucks too..

  • KoolKell

You win idiot post of the week.
Meet me at Safeway to get your trophy, you p’wood.

  • Gdog

Pretty sure the reason the defense came out flat and face planted again in the second half was because they were on the field for 3 minutes minus in the second quarter… NOTHING to do with coaching…

  • KoolKell

    Just did.
Now lay down and pray I don’t make you my boy.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

You’re no different than that “Hunter S Thompson” idiot. You openly root for the Raiders to lose so you can come here and flame everyone. You have no higher dreams or aspirations than flaming Raider fans who only want their team to win.

  • Gdog

Or we can watch a real QB.. oh wait, we have to tune into Ariz games…

  • M.Shorter

I already got a dad bish. Maybe if you stopped worrying about other people and worry about you self, then your wife wouldnt have to get it in with 10 dudes.

  • 0ak R8rs

So your argument is that NO other team would have drafted Wilson? That we were duped into taking him in the 4th round and Mayock and Keiper and Brandt were all wrong? Not buying it.

  • RaidO

    Andre Holmes

    Not bad. He can catch

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

He would have get drafted, but clearly nobody wanted him early in the draft or when he was avail after the preseason.
    Terrible draft pick.

  • Gdog

My point is its irrelevant to FANS. You are a finance geek… nobody else cares..

  • 0ak R8rs

One game. Butler looked good once too. But yea, if he can do what he did yesterday consistently……

  • marks hair

da has already had to fire 2 of his 3 coordinators + his oline coach.. I have heard enough about how great he’s doing

Well in all fairness, I wouldn’t have touched him after he got cut either. Any GM w some sense has gotta figured there’s a reason. And Reggie sure wasn’t gonna tell them why.

  • Steveopa

Reggie do us all a favor and call Hue Jackson tell him he can have his job back. Hue got a raw deal with us. We were doomed because we got rid of a great offensive mind. He could have been our Sean Payton. But know Reggie wanted to bring in his guy who has done squat. We haven’t beat a team with a winning record since DA became head coach. Look at our strength of victory it is probably the worst in the league.

  • M.Shorter

Look how many teams that have way more talent than we do and we still look better. Falcons, Bucs and Skins have far more talent than we do and we have looked alot better than those teams this year. Calm the F down people.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

A “great offensive mind” who’s currently the RB coach for the Bengals and hasn’t sniffed a coordinator’s job in years.

  • RaidO

True. DA is the guy who hired Greg Knapp and should have been fired just for that..

DA is not head coach material.

  • Gdog

You are not the sharpest tool in the shed are you? I am rooting for my team to win, and when there are OBVIOUS blunders, I don’t make excuses for them. That is what YOU do… if I want to be a tool for mediocrity, I’d switch to being a Browns fan. I expect more… you expect losses…

  • marks hair

we lost to the skins at home…jesus

  • Jonathan V.

The bucs could end up with the same record as us if they win one more game I think

  • M.Shorter

Olson offense is similar to Hues. Deep drag routes. Timing routes. Clear out routes. Only thing missing is screen plays.

  • RaidO

    Hue>DA

    and you know this..

  • plunkhead

    DAILY REMINDER:
    Tom Cable > Hue Johnson

  • marks hair

    and the production

  • Gdog

Well, yea. lol as if that isn’t something…

  • Steveopa

Yeah and look how well He has there rookie RB playing. The Steelers interviewed him for OC job. Head coaches are scared to have him as a coordinator because he might take their job like he did Tom Cable.

  • KoolKell

So what Btch? Did he win here?

  • RaidO

    and aggressiveness

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

No, he didn’t. He was 8-8.

  • marks hair

he wasn’t great, only twice as good as títs…

  • KoolKell

The Racist Pigs hate the Only people that have won here.
    Jackson and Campbell

  • Gdog

DA should have one more year. But gawd dam… he keeps making the same BLUNDERS every week… ask a Cowboys fan if he noticed the difference between the defense first to second… HE PUT ON THE BRAKES!!

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

LOL at someone who just a few days ago said they’d kill themselves for a 9-7 record lecturing anyone on “mediocrity”…

  • M.Shorter

Moore, Ford and Mcfadden were the production. Look at them now. Mcfadden can’t even run threw the right hole. Ford speed is gone. Moore has been doing alright.

  • nolimits3333

Hue Jackson ran a good offense.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Just curious: When a Caucasian agent at Kane gets a listing you were hoping for, do you also call them “racist pigs?”

  • Gdog

I would love it but he is not returning to coaching…
