Allen sticking with McGloin, at least for short term

Share

ALAMEDA – Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Friday that he intends to stick with Matt McGloin as his starting quarterback for now. However, Allen also wants to get another look at Terrelle Pryor before this season ends.
It’s all part of Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie gathering as much information as possible on their quarterback situation before they head into the offseason.
“I don’t think he’s done anything to play himself out of that position,” Allen said of McGloin.
At the same time, Allen stopped short of anointing McGloin the unquestioned starter the final four games.
Most important, the Raiders need to have a firm grasp on what they have in McGloin and Pryor. To that end, Allen said he wants to see more of Pryor this season, too.
“We need to have a good evaluation of what we have at the quarterback position as we move forward,” Allen said. “These last four weeks will be instrumental in us being able to do that.”
Next year’s NFL draft is regarded as a quarterback-rich one. The Raiders can’t afford to overlook that position if they aren’t sold on either McGloin or Pryor as the long-term answer at a position that has been unsettled since Rich Gannon retired.
Pryor backed up McGloin the past two games, and he is the only other quarterback on the roster now that the Raiders waived rookie Tyler Wilson, a fourth-round draft pick in April.

    Cork said so huh?

    As if gist means something……..lol

  • marks hair

    lol

  • It means more than you and I, that is for sure.

  • RaidO

Pryor just needs to get rid of the ball faster..

  • M.Shorter

I rooted for Pyror up until the Giants game. Anyone who thinks Pryor should start again needs to re-think. McGloin is a real qb. End of story.

  • Rifflicks

Give Prior Qb the rematch with Denver….a good measuring stick on his “improvement”….if they’re resting players he should light it up.

  • RaidO

    It’s not the O Line

  • plunkhead

    Cool story

  • RaidingTexas

You don’t enjoy the endless “start Pryor”, “fire Reggie”, “hire Gruden” posts?

  • Blackholepriest

    He’ll get his chance too….

  • M.Shorter

No. He needs learn how to throw with anticipation. McG does that really well.

  • M.Shorter

    Thanks.

  • willy91137

Some people in their have have not been raider fans for that long I can’t remember any big games the last big game that sticks in my mind is that Tuck rule game I have nightmares about that one

  • Rifflicks

McGloin understands the playbook….he knows where the WR’s will be ahead of time

  • RaidingTexas

I would say the Super Bowl was a bigger game than that.

  • RaidO

McG also gets rid of the ball faster but also throws high…

  • plunkhead

I dunno, beat reporters are paid to tell a story and some stories they are not allowed to tell

  • Blackholepriest

That is the difference between the two, that I see other than that McG is nowhere near TP physically. All TP needs is to play faster………period

  • willy91137

In that game we got beat in the talk rule game we got robbed

  • RaidingTexas

He’s not going to though. You can’t make a QB more decisive at this point in his career. That’s a skill that takes many years to develop.

  • RaidO

I am guessing Pryor has figured out that he cannot hold on to the ball so long and the O line is no that bad.

I want to see him play now.. If he has not learned that yet… Bye bye…

  • Blackholepriest

I said this before TP got hurt he needed to see someone else in that offense. He needed to see what he was doing wrong and play faster. Other than that I thought he was progressing fine. But he was hesitant to trust his teammates………period

  • They will be playing for the #1 seed more than likely.

  • RaidingTexas

I guess I missed the context of your statement. My bad. But really, I have a hard time believing there are new Raiders fans. They’ve been irrelevant for way too long. I think the fan base has shrunk if anything.

  • “New” Raider fans get Raider tattoo’s and can’t name 15 people on the roster

  • Rifflicks

still a good measuring stick…he played QB the first time….film to compare his progress or regression.

  • plunkhead

Did you see Lopez of San Jose kicking the ball around?
Jano should spend the off season with him learning how to kick

  • RaidingTexas

    Oh, you mean Comptonites.

  • Rifflicks

why is McGloin always looking over the defense pics with Olson between series and Pryor can’t be bothered?

  • RaidO

Pryor had been making the O line look a lot worse then they are..

  • RaidingTexas

They don’t want to further confuse him before the next offensive series.

  • yup, nothing changed the first two weeks.
Got Jered back yesterday but promptly lost Briesel in the first series.

  • plunkhead

    MWC!!
12 Td’s in the first half. Between the two teams, maybe Reggie can build an offense

  • plunkhead

    J/K by the way
    Reg is my man

  • Rifflicks

sure don’t want any of their defensive players

  • Blackholepriest

Car rand Fales are engaged in an epic instant classic!

  • willy91137

McGlion is a pure passer he can throw somebody open and prior can do that if prior had McGlion arm he would be the perfect quarterback

  • plunkhead

    Good point

  • Rifflicks

not hardly….Pryor cant read a defense or understand the play book….McGloin’s success is based on accuracy and anticipation

  • willy91137

Must be something in the water maybe we need a different trainer

  • plunkhead

Just missed 13 by this ! much

  • KoolKell

You can NOT give Allen a lead

  • Rico Stifler

    Still Pryor hangers?
    Ok, simple question.
    What does Pryor do well?
Out of all the things that go into making up a solid qb, all that I can think of is he’s fast.
Except that’s way down the list of attributes.

Someone will toss in ‘works hard’.
Everyone in the NFL works hard, especially non super stars, so that’s nothing to grade.
    He’s fast.
    That’s it.
    Everything else is a struggle.

  • The O/U in this game was 72, lol.
What the hell do you do with a 2nd half line on that? The books are so exposed they might just not even post one.

  • Rifflicks

    can’t give you a listing

  • willy91137

Because prior to does not know what he’s looking at

  • willy91137

they know who prior is an DMC

  • Rifflicks

then what good is McGloin’s arm going to do for PrYor to make him a good QB

  • KoolKell

The Raiders best chance next week is to come out 21-0 down

  • willy91137

I’m sorry I guess we’ll have to give my brain transplant
