Allen sticking with McGloin, at least for short term

ALAMEDA – Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Friday that he intends to stick with Matt McGloin as his starting quarterback for now. However, Allen also wants to get another look at Terrelle Pryor before this season ends.
It’s all part of Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie gathering as much information as possible on their quarterback situation before they head into the offseason.
“I don’t think he’s done anything to play himself out of that position,” Allen said of McGloin.
At the same time, Allen stopped short of anointing McGloin the unquestioned starter the final four games.
Most important, the Raiders need to have a firm grasp on what they have in McGloin and Pryor. To that end, Allen said he wants to see more of Pryor this season, too.
“We need to have a good evaluation of what we have at the quarterback position as we move forward,” Allen said. “These last four weeks will be instrumental in us being able to do that.”
Next year’s NFL draft is regarded as a quarterback-rich one. The Raiders can’t afford to overlook that position if they aren’t sold on either McGloin or Pryor as the long-term answer at a position that has been unsettled since Rich Gannon retired.
Pryor backed up McGloin the past two games, and he is the only other quarterback on the roster now that the Raiders waived rookie Tyler Wilson, a fourth-round draft pick in April.

Chicks there were bogus. But I had a few cocktails and met the owner.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Shanahan will be the first fired. Underperforming team, and the star QB hates him.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    No it won’t

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

I think Snyder likes him, or else Shanny would feel this empowered.
But that is a good call as well.

  • Michael

Dam. I hate LSU. Was hoping they would lose

  • KoolKell

DA hasn’t shown any idea about Offense in his tenure here.

  • RaidO

If DA is being judged by Mark D based on “defensive improvement ” then he gets another year. As a head coach not so much

  • M.Shorter

Ok fire D.A. Then bring in another coach, different staff members, different scheme players will have to learn. We would prolly keep losing every year. We need some consistency.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Agreed. Hue had no clue about defense and was canned as well.
Have to be a little more worldly than just a one side of the field guy.
Although the Raiders aren’t exactly a hot spot destination for quality head coaches.

  • plunkhead

There is a long trail of my buddies. One died at 60,000 ft coming back from Peru when the condoms burst in his belly.
I was lucky to find a higher power with your namesake and quit drinking

  • Eldiabs

Basically you want him to process information faster,,,,, Been in league 3yrs if it hasn’t happened yet it aint

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Of course, the person who hired DA should be just as much on the hot seat.
    DA didn’t hire himself.

  • plunkhead

He did finally get 86ed from there and everywhere else.
He liked to fight and win

  • 0ak R8rs

Coaches aren’t under the salary cap, dumbass. Just because we have $50 million available under the cap, doesn’t mean we have tons of cash laying around for coaches. We r probably the poorest team in the nfl. And DA has another 8 million coming, guaranteed. Like McGloin, he’s done nothing to deserve to not keep his spot.

  • Eldiabs

If he gets another year how many seats will they have to cover with tarp to broadcast the games

  • KoolKell

With cash for players next year, I reckon coaches might choose that than, Podunk.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Exactly. That’s why, IMHO, Olson will be back next year as well.

  • 0ak R8rs

Even if they don’t win another game. As long as they r competitive, like they have been all year.

  • RaidO

Fire DA. Keep Tarver for the “defensive improvement”. Bring in a head coach with a offensive back ground and knows how to make adjustments..

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Didn’t seem to happen when Al was spending more money than anyone else.
Coaches with resumes don’t want to take on charity cases.

  • M.Shorter

When McGloin gets pressured he sides steps the pressure and throws the ball downfield. When Pryor is pressured he runs. McGloin should start next year. He’s been making amazing throws for an undrafted Qb.

  • 0ak R8rs

Sold out every game this year and last year and the year before? What exactly so you expect to be different next year? We r gonna be solid next year.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

If the HC is gone, you can’t saddle him with staff members he didn’t chose.
That’s how you end up only being able to hire some low level, never coached before guy you never heard of.

  • M.Shorter

Yeah I like what Olson has been doing.

  • plunkhead

I am on board with that. Besides I think Mark hired them because they did not cost too much. H eprobaly got them cheap.
The books are just getting cleaned up so I bet they get one more year

  • Eldiabs

The bar has been lowered again,,,,Competitive?

  • 0ak R8rs

You don’t get it both ways. DA is fired, next HC brings in his own guys

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

We struggled to sell out the Titans game with the playoffs on the line and the lowest seating capacity in the NFL.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

That’s why Al kept bringing in reject after reject. No way Sean Payton would agree to keep Rob Ryan on as DC, no questions asked. But Shell and Kiffin would agree to it.

  • Eldiabs

Sold out??? HAHAH have you seen the games with nobody there and numerous sections covered in tarp just so they can say the game was sold out….LOL

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Part of the reason why Reggie got DA (who considered a bright young HC candidate) was his pledge that “the new head coach will have the right to hire any assistant he wants.”

  • 0ak R8rs

Still selling out games. And why is that, anyway? We won the week before. The titans game had playoff implications. No reason people shouldn’t show. Maybe they should gtfo of Oakland? Maybe that’s part of the problem if we can’t sell seats?

  • RaidO

Allen is a decent DC. Head coach not so much..

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Who wants to take a job where the owner dictates your offensive and defensive schemes, most of your assistants and even your active/inactive lists?

  • AutumnThunderstorm

McGloin probably starts one more game vs New York.
Pryor will start vs division rivals, as he has played against all three now, so we will get a better analysis of his progress as well as show off his talents for a probable trade.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

More the stadium than the location.

  • RaiderGuy50

i think he gets next year- just on feeling and overall competitiveness. But I think we get at least one more win. KC at home should be ours w Veldy back, etc. Jets game winnable as well, I hope- going to that one!
But, if the team mails it in down the stretch; however, i can see DA getting the ax

  • 0ak R8rs

Games have all been sold out. 3 years, almost 4 years running. Stadium sucks. Team is $50 million under the cap. People aren’t not showing up because of the HC. That’s stupid talk.

  • Eldiabs

Raider games resemble Florida Marlin games, I’ll be hitting the Jets Raiders on 8th and thank god it will be packed watching two sh*t teams

  • AutumnThunderstorm

new head coach will mean two new coordinators

  • RaidO

DA did hire Gregg Knapp.. LOL

    Fire DA!

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Which means a complete change in philosophies, play calls, you name it. Staff changes are a real “start from square one” situation.

  • plunkhead

IF DA is gone, I hope those knuckleheads have enough sense to hire someone with some NFL head coach experience.
    Otherwise you are just gambling

  • Eldiabs

It’s the team, when its even avg team they sell out….17years straight before Al moved south

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Then you risk getting a retread who already couldn’t hack it once. It’s a gamble either way.

  • spiff

if the new HC like what tarver brings to the table it’s not too far fetched. one less hire he has to make . but if not it should his choice.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

There were games during the Gruden years that didn’t sell out.

  • KoolKell

    That’s a lie

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Al was hiring coaches with solid resumes as head coaches?
    Who?

  • 0ak R8rs

It was always “competitive”. That’s all we were promised by Reggie. And guess what? That’s what we got. Competitive. 10 new starters on D and hovering or above the top 10 all year. Two first year/rookie QBs. No WRs w more than 2 years in the league (ford doesn’t count) no TEs w ANY years in the league, except Mastrud, who had 1 catch in 3 years. An OL that hasn’t started the same 5 guys all year. Not once. McFadden sucking.

And it’s the HC’s fault? Lmfao.
