Raiders not practicing today, hit the field again Wednesday

The Raiders spent the first part of Monday in meetings, while head coach Dennis Allen and his staff kicked into overdrive their preparation for their team’s game against the New York Jets.
The players received Friday, Saturday and Sunday off after they returned from Dallas on Thursday night and a game against the Dallas Cowboys. They will be off Tuesday, as well, and hit the practice field Wednesday for the first time in a week.
Coach Allen will not hold a news conference today, given the Raiders didn’t play Sunday, and he did his day-after-news conference Friday. However, there is media access to the locker room at 2:30. So, stay tuned for updates from the players.
On Wednesday, there’s a possibility that strong safety Tyvon Branch will practice with his teammates for the first time since he suffered an ankle injury in the Raiders second game, more than 2 1/2 months ago.
Other things to look for will be whether running back Rashad Jennings has recovered enough from the concussion he suffered against the Cowboys so that he can resume practice and the status of the handful of other players that got hurt that game — cornerback Mike Jenkins (stinger), safety Usama Young (neck), running back Jeremy Stewart (knee, ankle), right guard Mike Brisiel (knee) and linebacker Kaluka Maiava (calf).
It’s also likely that quarterback Terrelle Pryor will be at or near full strength after not playing since Nov. 10. If so, it begs the question: How will he be used, if at all, against the Jets and the rest of the season.
Allen said Friday that he wants to take a longer look at Pryor and current starter Matt McGloin in the final four games so that he, his coaching staff and general manager Reggie McKenzie have as much information on both players as possible heading into the offseason.
McGloin is going to start against the Jets, Allen said. So, for Pryor to get any playing time Sunday, it’s going to have to be in a Wildcat package, some other sort of special package or if McGloin gets injured or is ineffective.

What happened to our New and Improved Run Defense on Thursday?

  • the authoritative dr robert

Gotta love bloggers who are dissing bloggers for blogging.

Kinda like tv shows telling us to read more and watch less tv.

  • spiff

little harsh there my brother from another motha……

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

C’mon Spaceman. It’s either ‘brotha from anotha motha’, or ‘brother from another mother’.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    WHAT?

  • the authoritative dr robert

I’m generally optimistic regarding coaches and don’t normally overreact.

But I feel DA is a very poor offensive skill evaluator.

And very questionable in-game decision maker/adjustment maker.

I question any evaluation he has made on any offensive skill player.

  • spiff

it’ s for all to understand…….. ya neva kno.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Anomaly, not anomadillo.

  • Gdog

Those 3 minutes on the field in the second quarter could wipe out any defense!!

  • seymour bush

I answered the question, and you guys just don’t understand it. But that’s what the most ignorant fans say: FIRE THE COACHES! FIRE THE FRONT OFFICE PEOPLE! PUT IN THE BACK UP QB!

  • Blackholepriest

I heard DA on 95.7 today and that is not what he said. He idea of wildcat never was mentioned. They may fit TP in during the game and he said the game will dictate how things go.

Meaning who ever moves the ball and scores points will play………period

  • The_Judge37

I get it, our team full of 20 year olds were too tired to compete in the 2nd half. It’s also the NOT the coaches fault they weren’t mentally prepared. I’ll give you this, you’re not as dumb as people give you credit for.

  • Blackholepriest

It is the only way it should go if TP puts up points play him, if McG puts up points, play him……..period

  • spiff

    that’s shakesphere baby……………

  • KoolKell

Raiders get off to a great start, Dennis squats. Period. Lol.

  • Blackholepriest

    3. And outs happened

DA needs to hold himself accountable for those collapses. It’s always “they didn’t do this or that” it is never “WE”. He’s the HC.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

‘neva’ reminded me. Whatever happened to ’4eva’?

  • KoolKell

The only chance we have Is the Jets getting off to a fast start. So Dennis can’t squat.

  • Gdog

Personally I think the 2nd biggest problem this team is having (behind Reggie being a greenhorn ne’er do well) is that DA is not an offensive guy, and there is no way to bring in a premier OC unless we take chances on other teams garbage. The league doesn’t allow sideways moves, just upwards. Thats why I was hoping for a young hotshot OC from college (like Tarver.)
If we can find a young guy with head coaching aspirations to replace Olson.. we should do that in a NY minute.

If not, I am fine with holding my nose and listening to another year of excuses why the offense keeps struggling…

  • 0ak R8rs

It’s funny how, virtually nobody we have let go has done anything of significance. In fairness, Palmer has had some good games, but he reverted to his normal ways last week. Most of the others aren’t even in the league right now.

We go into every game w $50 million dollars less in salaries than every other team we play. Sure, we brought that on ourselves to a point, first Al signing them, then Reggie deciding he’d rather pay them to do nothing, rather than be in the lockerroom cashing checks.

We spent last off season signing everyone’s cast offs just to fill out a roster. Because we had no money. We spend this offseason signing everyone’s second stringers, because we had a little money, but still not enough.

We have jumped out to some nice leads. No doubt. Most of those created by special teams and turnovers tho. It’s no like our offense, built w a rag tag injured OL, rookie/first year QBs and TEs, 2nd and 3rd year WRs that have never been the good anyway, and an under performing veteran RB have been putting on displays of 80 or even 60 yard drives. We’ve taken advantage of some turnovers to get some leads

We’ve also arguably had two games lost single handed lay by missed field goals. One could say we should have scored TDs instead, whatever, point is we could have won two games easily w fgs under 50 yards both times.

Yet it’s all coaching, right? Just ridiculous. Some of it is coaching. But it’s mostly talent level. Of course, you can’t fire all the players, so the chicken littles wanna fire the entire staff and start over. Again. Heck, why not? It’s worked out so well for the last 20 years, let’s just keep doing the same thing……

One full draft and no high end FAs and no veterans worth keeping or performing if we did keep them. And it’s all coaching…….

  • spiff

but the real question is who will quarterback the team next year…………….?

  • Blackholepriest

    Bad message, Bad bad message.

  • Gdog

You keep forgetting about that grueling two minutes and 17 seconds of action the defense saw in the second half.

What team can come back from THAT??

  • KoolKell

Just lucky we beat Pitt. Dennis tried to give it away.

  • seymour bush

Our team came back out in the second half, got a quick nice completion, and then went three and out, and three and out. We did not sustain drives in the second half, and we were still in it. Sio Moore dropped a sure interception early in the game. Woodson had one bounce off his hands. Dez Bryant fumbled and they recovered. If you can’t sustain drives and get the turnovers when they come to you, you won’t win NFL games. And it doesn’t matter if Vince Lombardi is on your sidelines diagramming power draw plays.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Took the ball out of TP’s hands to prevent him from giving it away. Just like SD.

  • Gdog

He keeps picking OC’s that would never have a shot at HC in a zillion years. In the process of protecting his job, he might lose it? Or maybe Reggie is forcing others garbage on him? Knapp and Olson don’t have GB ties, do they?

  • 0ak R8rs

    Exactly.

  • KoolKell

Sideways moves are not illegal. But the team may not allow it if he’s under contract and they want him.

  • The_Judge37

Don’t forget the 100,000 fans in Texas

  • plunkhead

Make sure you let them know that IYHO “policemen lie and are not anymore trustworthy then “joe six pack”

    This was for Purv, obviously

  • RaidO

Mark Davis wanted to see some improvement this year.

Another 4-12 or 5-11 or 6-10 is not going to cut it…Optimism for this team next year is still a big “?”
It’s not 8-8 with potential or 8-8 cut down on the penalties and fix the defense.

Raiders currently have a 2nd half melt down issue and thats coaching.

    FIRE Dennis Allen!

  • 0ak R8rs

You could say that about a lot of games own and lost I guess. Most only come down to a play or two. Just like last Thursday.

  • The_Judge37

I thought 3 and outs weren’t supposed to happen now that we have a real QB? We also now have a RB who loves Football and God.

  • seymour bush

Well, you are the guy that wants a WR to play QB for us, so not much I can say to you.

  • 0ak R8rs

Wasn’t aware we had any real QBs on the roster. Nice to know I guess

  • KoolKell

I think Dennis must win 6.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

You miss your intended target, by chance?

  • Blackholepriest

    Holmes is just a playmaker……..period

  • Gdog

Oh, ok. Well what team would? Unless he sucks…

  • seymour bush

Terrelle Pryor played worse and worse and worse and worse as his career went on. There is no denying this. Sometimes, getting off the field and watching for awhile causes the light to go on. But the reality is Pryor played worse and worse and worse and worse.

  • 0ak R8rs

    Learn the game.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Guess I’ll have to ask what’s left of the AM Crew.

  • seymour bush

There has been improvement this year. Helen Keller can see that.

  • Blackholepriest

Whomever can move the team and score points. It is the criterion by which you judge any QB.

  • R8erEduc8er

Shouldn’t u guys be screaming to release Pryor then? When u want a qb to play WR, its time to waive him and bring in a vet backup. Don’t know who’s available but he has to be better than a qb everyone wants to play WR. These last 3 weeks of Pryor on the roster was a waste. Oh wait, DA and company doesn’t think like the bloggers on here.

  • KoolKell

TP or McGloin each got off to fast starts only to be squatted on by Dennis.

  • spiff

yeah I hear you……., against the titans late in the game 4th and goal let the clock run out , two timeouts left . burn the clock. rush three linemen forget pressure the qb play soft. game had no significance that’s why the players blew it……………..

  • 10centsworth

You “in other words”…yourself? spit it out.
