McFadden not at practice, Jones working at RB once again

ALAMEDA – Taiwan Jones is working at running back in practice Wednesday for the first time since last season.
Jones, a Deer Valley High School graduate, entered the league in 2011 as a running back, but coach Dennis Allen converted Jones to cornerback after last season.
The bulk of Jones’ game action the past two seasons came as a special teams ace.
He is considered by some to have the best shot at making the Pro Bowl among Raiders players this season based on his penchant for making big plays on kick-off and punt coverage.
It’s likely that Jones is back at running back for now as a result of recent injuries to running backs Rashad Jennings, Darren McFadden and Jeremy Stewart.
Jennings is at practice today, but he is fresh from a game in which he suffered a concussion. He won’t be cleared to play Sunday against the New York Jets until he passes a series of league-mandated tests for players that suffer a concussion.
McFadden and Stewart missed practice Wednesday. Stewart injured a knee and an ankle against the Dallas Cowboys last Thursday.
McFadden carried the ball five times for 13 against the Cowboys in his first game back since he hurt a hamstring Nov. 3. He has played in only eight games this season, with 103 carries for 365 yards and four touchdowns.
Jones rushed 22 times for 94 yards his first two seasons. His lone rush this season came on a fake punt.
McFadden is in the final season of the six-year contract he signed with the Raiders in 2008, when he was selected with the fourth pick of the NFL draft out of Arkansas.
He has failed to live up to lofty expectations during his six-year career. He averaged 3.3 yards last season. Jennings rushed for 448 yards in the past five games in place of McFadden as the lead back.
Allen has made it clear that Jennings still is going to get his “touches,” even when McFadden is healthy, based on how well Jennings has played. It remains to be seen whether Allen will use Jones at running back in a game this season.

– In other news, wide receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder), right guard Mike Brisiel (knee) and safety Usama Young (neck) also aren’t practicing today.
Brisiel is on the field, but he is just watching. Lucas Nix is working at Brisiel’s right guard spot in the early portion of practice. Nix has played mostly left guard this season.

– Strong safety Tyvon Branch is practicing today for the first time since he suffered an ankle injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars more than 2 1/2 months ago.
Branch missed the past 10 games while he recovered from his injury. It’s conceivable that he will be healthy enough to play against the Jets.
Allen said he didn’t envision Branch needing much practice time before playing in a game once he returned to the field.
Brandian Ross and Young have filled in for Branch since Sept. 15, when Branch got injured.

Never stopped him from signing who he wanted. The problem was the players he wanted.

0they get paid by the hits. your reply is actually worth something.0

  • RaiderLen

Ha! I liked Dez, but not at what Lombardi paid.

  • lefty12

Sure stopped him from having any depth for the inevitable injuries that would happen.Maybe that is why, except for the Chuckie years,he couldn’t win once the players were granted free agency.

Not a Raider, hope he can never play again and the Browns have to eat a bunch of dead money.

    0si0

  • RaiderLen

Glad it’s the site and not my computer.

  • Rico Stifler

Not to mention that Al never had a draft where he did not pick til the 4th round like RM did last year… Only twice during that span did Al not have a first round pick.

    Jesus,
Guess that is the way to go.
    Disqus = biscuits

  • The_Judge37

There you go, You found something positive about Reg over Al. Reggie has the roster with so much depth players, they extend well into the starting lineup.

  • spiff

    ” nuff said………. moving on.

  • Jim Jesus

How did you ever come out on the last bet of the week Monday night?

  • Rico Stifler

Being that he is an experienced HC, I think he can do a lot more with this current team than what DA has done at this point.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

I lost a little house money (got smoked actually), but end up on the weekend up $200, so like any good husband, gave the wifey half for her hard work.

  • Chino

    Gruden had a better boss

  • Rico Stifler

You know how he was able to waste money on those players? By constantly re-doing contracts and forcing more and more money into later years. Then what happened? They exploded all over the place to the tune of 25M over the cap. He sacrificed money in future years in a pathetic attempt to “win now”

Mimi has gone 8 of her last 9 documented, and didn’t pick up any twitter followers.
    She is pretty frustrated.

  • Jim Jesus

Nice. What do you think is gonna happen in the top 4 in NCAA ? I am pulling for Auburn. Hope F St. loses for Raider O’s sake.

  • Jim Jesus

    LOL Mimi. the SWAMI

  • Jim Jesus

    O10centsworth you must be Okidding!

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    You were not.

  • 10centsworth

0jim murray just twitted that McFadden is going to Cleveland in a blockbuster trade.0

  • Rico Stifler

Again, oblivious to the clusterfvck that Al left behind, huh?

  • Jim Jesus

Does Cleveland have trainers that can actually get that chump on the field?

  • Rico Stifler

But, they were still rookies that RM brought in… They are still a part of the draft class. They just didn’t require a pick to get them…..

  • Chino

Does the nfl approve trades after the trade deadline?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

You had to have been there.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

How about Ohio State wins 17-16 and gets leapfrogged?
Big 10 shouldn’t be a “power conference”. That is a sham.

  • spiff

if it was that easy……….. sign and trade ha.

  • The_Judge37

    The Return of SOUP!

  • Rico Stifler

Gruden did more with what he had, but I can’t remember what the salary cap was like for us back then. I know that Our salary cap was a clusterfvck after Al died but it will be much better next year.

  • Jim Jesus

MONKEY is gonna be pissed if his team has a 24 game win streak and don’t make it to the big dance. LOL I can see his fur standing up as we type.

  • Rico Stifler

I think an experienced HC would have fared better than how DA has done so far.

  • lefty12

That was Bruce Allen’s dept and he handled it well.

  • 10centsworth

0I was stewing over that. Murray is ghost writing OJs memoirs.0

  • Rico Stifler

I always did like Bruce Allen. Him and Gruden worked well while they were here. Didn’t fare well in TB though..

  • Jonathan V.

Well looks like “one of the most explosive running backs in the league” rage quitted out of Oakland

  • Chino

He’s doing better than lance ever did.

  • Jim Jesus

Need some facts guys, do you work for IBABuzz with these teasers? LMAO!

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

At least we don’t have to have our intelligence insulted anymore when CBS does the “keys to the game” and they say every week “when healthy McFadden is one of the most explosive backs it the game…they need to get him going” blah blah blah.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    10cent does.

  • Rico Stifler

Kiffin was another rookie HC also. Most coaches can do better than Kiffin did. he’s been fired from two of his last three HC gigs and bailed on the one between firings…..

  • lefty12

Because Gruden was given personnel decisions and he was terrible. In Oakland Al built the team.In TB he won with Dungy’s team. When he took over those decisions the team regressed.
