Quick hits from Allen presser

Some quick hits from Raiders coach Dennis Allen’s weekly press briefing Monday in the aftermath of a 56-31 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs:

– The booing of the fans is understandable and not taken personally.

“This is a loyal, passionate fan base and they’re hungry for wins,’’ Allen said. “I understand that, I think our whole team understands that and I think our whole organization understands that . . . I understand the fans reaction. We have the same frustration. We want to win. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to get it done.’’

– Matt McGloin has retained the starting quarterback position in part because of his ability to get the ball down the field. McGloin has 15 pass plays of 25 or more yards since taking over as the starting quarterback, the most in the NFL.

Terrelle Pryor has nine such pass plays during his time at quarterback.

McGloin will continue to start with Pryor coming off the bench. If McGloin is the starter, why play Pryor at all?

“We continue to make the defense work on a different skill set and a different set of plays,’’ Allen said. “And I believe that opens up some things for us in the running game when we’re able to do those things. . . . we’ll continue to look at different ways we can utilize both players to give us a chance to have success on offense.’’

– Allen said the Chiefs beat three different defenses on their three touchdowns on screen passes to Jamaal Charles _ “vision, max and man-to-man.’’

– Running back Darren McFadden is expected to be on the practice field Wednesday and may be available to face the San Diego Chargers.

– The Raiders recent struggles make it appear as if they were a better team in Weeks 1 and 2 than they are in Week 15.

“I think we’ve played better a times this year than we’ve played collectively as a group the last couple of weeks,’’ Allen said. “I don’t know if I’d say we were better then. I think it’s the same team. But I do think that we’re in a little bit of a rut and we’ve got to pull out.’’

– Allen’s contact with owner Mark Davis is minimal. The chain of command goes from Davis through general manager Reggie McKenzie to Allen.

“Mark and Reggie talk quite often and most of my communication happens with Reggie and then Mark and Reggie communicate,’’ Allen said.

– Allen declined to quantify how much of the Raiders problems have to do with coaching and how much has to do with talent.

“We’re all a part of it, OK? We’re all a part of it,’’ Allen said. “We’re not in the blame game. We’re not in the pointing fingers game. That’s for everybody else to do.’’

I was told last year that the only thing that matters with CP is his W/L record. I guess that only counts with a crappy team?

BTW, his o-line is WORSE than ours, hands down (PFF rated 32nd) they are winning because CP is so adept at avoiding sacks. I pointed this out last year too…

  • willy91137

What a pretty monkey and a coach football

  • Howard Benner

I do agree with the OL assesment. However, what scenario would you more favorably embrace? Great defense, one elite NFL WR & a porous OL against a mediocre WR group, sieve like defense & 10 years of negativity? Also; the devisive nature of Palmer’s relationship with some of the Raider WR’s never repaired since “Soup” went down with his collarbone; I think Palmer wanted out more than he did from Cincy. . .

The stupid Patriots don’t always have top tier draft picks, but they have a winning season every year (how is that?). We all know that Brady was not a top tier draft pick…but look at him now (he’s worshipped by millions). However, the Patriots do have an outstanding coach that will do anything to win.
I used the Patriots as an example because this generation of NFL fans, admire Tom Brady and the Patriots.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Brady is the exception rather than the rule. You’ll wait a generation before another 6th rd QB becomes a GOAT candidate.

Agreed. However, my point is: Our coach need to seek help, guidance and inspiration from Sean Payton (his mentor), or get the F*** out of here.

DA could be doing a better job, agreed.

Answer me this Davy. How is Chip Kelly able to turn the Eagles into a legit team in such a short amount of time?

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
    RaidingTexas Goldie7

Not having Vick start was one way. Helps to also have guys like Desean and McCoy.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
    Davy Jones Goldie7

Short answer? Nick Foles. Nothing changes your team faster than a change at QB. Which is why the Raiders should draft one round one, or at the top of round two at least.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
    Goldie7

Chip Kelly made the Eagles pretty darn good in a short amount of time. What are his methods?

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    IAmAlwaysWrong Goldie7

he inherited Lesean McCoy and Nick Foles.

My bad fellas. I had to stop blogging and take care of some business. Anyway, I am a Mr. Allen Davis/old school type of fan, and he would never accept this type of coaching that we currently have. However, I know you guys have your opinions about DA, and I am alright with that; we all can agree to disagree.

Hurry, hurry, hurry! Hot off the press, we have 2014 excuses! Be the first on your block to explain away the 2014 season! Featuring such hot ticket items as “It takes time to adapt to a system” and “DA just needs a little more time to get comfortable as a head coach”. Folks, nobody has these yet, so come on down to 7000 Coliseum Way and get a jump start on the 2014 season today! Act now and we’ll throw in a free “Maybe Next Year” T-Shirt!

    Just Continuity, Baby!

  • Howard Benner

First off, Palmer WANTED out. Don’t you think he would have staged “retirement 2.0″ if the Raiders balked?

Next! Matt Flynn? Are you flippin crazy? Based on what? The Pack have a winning legacy as of recent, playoff aspirations, plus a solid nucleus of players &, more importantly PLAYMAKERS on both sides of the Football. Flynn was in full pouting mode when he got the ill fated start against the Deadskins. The DEADSKINS!

You need an eye examination, DR. You have been diagnosed as MYOPIC! NEXT!

  • Gdog

I can’t argue with any of this, I just get sick of Raider fans acting like he was hot garbage and STILL is. He’s a damn fine QB, warts and all. It was a mistake not putting a better team around him and keeping him happy.

Reggie had “deconstruction” in mind instead…. sucks to be us fans… but what can you do? Right now I am just rooting for Ariz!!

I feel your pain & then some. I live in Seattle. I have to deal with the Seaslug fans every flippin day! Whereas I don my Raider gear on a regular basis (& Giants & Warriors stuff as well) all I have to do is walk around like that & get dirty looks, chants of “Faiders. . .,” & much worse. . .

So, yes, I too am rooting for the Cards in that division. I think they visit Seattle this week, in not next week. . .good luck, Carson. . .

FACT: Bill Belichick sold his soul to the Devil.

Reggie, on the other hand, traded back for a few more lower-end souls down the road.

We’ll need at least 5 years to see if this transaction pans out. Early signs are not promising, however.

  • Goldie7

lol. At least he was trying to get his fans more SB trophies. I miss that.

  • nolimits3333

Did the press ever ask Allen why the Raiders threw a fade to Jacoby Ford with the game on the line?

  • the authoritative dr robert

Ur just making things up regarding Palmer.

Flynn’s body of work is so much better than pryors, it’s ridiculous.

Apparently u don’t want the best player.

Thank you Beech. I’ll take it under advisement.

  • rifflicks

A question for you…..Was Ford in perfect position to catch the ball, and the Defensive back made a fantastic play to make the INT???

  • Theghostronin79

Because that’s not going to help us……You ever see that movie “Miracle”? Kurt Russell putting his Olympic Hockey team together…..”I’m not looking for the BEST players…I’m looking for the right ones.”

  • Gdog

Flynn is a head case.. obviously. He just needed to get “home” to GB so he can suck his thumb in comfort with his blankie.

The Raiders tried everything they could to get him to not suck here, and nothing worked… when he got his chances he face-planted, then when we went back to Pryor he pouted and cried. The guy will never be anything besides GBs backup QB. If any team offers him another contract away from GB, they clearly deserve what they will be getting… fleeced.

My point was/is—- I would never judge a rookie QB on his first 5 games, anymore than i would concede a game in the first 5 mins of play. Especially when said QB sets long pass yrd records his first few starts, and is forced to play catch-up due to his team’s abysmal defensive play.

When you expand the NFC playoff fortunes I have to admit I am rooting for the Panthers, despite the fact Greg Hardy will probably be enticed to stay in Charlotte if the Panthers enjoy a modicum of playoff success.

Ironically, the Panther DE that put Palmer out with his broken rib was none other than Greg Hardy. . .

Well in comparison to Ford not even lifting a finger to the ball, it did look “fantastic”. It effectively ended our season. Kinda like how running the wrong route vs SD ended our playoff run with CP…

  • Howard Benner

Don’t think so. . .Palmer told the Raiders he would not renegotiate his contract with the Raiders. He obviously didn’t want to be here. Again you display your lack of vision. . .

Flynn’s body of work in Green Bay, one game as an injury fill in for Aaron Rodgers & the start against the (then) sieve like Detroit Lions (if memory serves that was during their ill fated 0-16 “perfect” season) ?!

What was Flynn’s body of work in Oaktown? He wouldn’t talk to the press & moped around the Raiders’ lockerroom. He was a divisive influence. What happened in the pre season? Flynn displayed no pocket awareness, played like crap & was summarily benched in favor of a QB the Raiders’ HC didn’t want to start; as an act of last resort. . .you really have to check your short term memory. . .it is woefully lacking. . .perhaps early stages of dementia. . .

Then Flynn goes to Buffalo & is waived from the Bills?! If Rodgers doesn’t get hurt does Flynn get picked up @ all?

Then He has an up & down game against the Falcons (who?!) &, with a better supporting cast has a good second half against one of the five worst defenses, playing without any of their regular LB’s?!

If the Cowgirls’ don’t deviate from their gameplan of running the ball this isn’t even an argument. . .

Get it right, buddy. . .we don’t need any of this hubris stoked ‘well, he did it for them. . .he coulda done it for us” apples & oranges stuff. . .I can’t even believe your veil thin, unimaginative excuse for an argument. . .the Dr. obviously is out!

  • Goldie7
