Pryor starting against Broncos

By Steve Corkran
Monday, December 23rd, 2013 at 1:30 pm in Oakland Raiders.

ALAMEDA – Terrelle Pryor is slated to start at quarterback for the Raiders in their regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos, coach Dennis Allen said Monday.
Pryor started eight of the first nine games this season – Matt Flynn started one game while Pryor recovered from a concussion – but got replaced by undrafted rookie Matt McGloin after he suffered a right knee sprain.
McGloin started the past six games, with the Raiders going 1-5 during that span and McGloin not coming close to matching his jaw-dropping performance in his first start, when he passed for three touchdowns in a Raiders victory over the Houston Texans.
Allen said the decision to go with Pryor one more time was part of the plan all along and is not a reflection of McGloin’s performance.
“I’ve been pleased with what I’ve seen out of Matt McGloin from, really, the first moment he walked on campus here,” Allen said. “We have a guy that can be in our plans for the future, and I’m glad he’s on this football team.”
He said earlier this season that he and general manager Reggie McKenzie wanted to use the final part of the season to evaluate Pryor and McGloin so that they had as much information as possible on both quarterbacks heading into the offseason.
“We want to be able to evaluate Terrelle, so here’s an opportunity to go in and do that,” Allen said. “Listen, when Terrelle’s played he’s gone in and done a good job. So we anticipate he’ll go in and play well.”
Pryor made his first NFL start in last season’s regular-season finale. He earned the starting job this season based on a strong performance in training camp and exhibition games.
As a result, the Raiders waived Flynn a month into the season and turned over the reins to Pryor and McGloin the rest of the way.
Pryor shined in his first four starts. However, he completed only 61 of 120 passes his next four starts, with one touchdown and eight interceptions.
McGloin hasn’t completed more than 60 percent of his passes in any game, and he has eight touchdowns and eight interceptions in his seven games – he relieved Pryor late in a lopsided loss to the Eagles before he made his first start.

And do you want to see Allen get annihilated this weekend as well as you previously declared? Quite the pickle for you.

  • marks hair

reg is the management.. and he did a terrible job of selecting his head coach and most of his players.. both guys need to go and that’s on mark.

  • funnyfalcon

Every instance? Are we talking about only at Oakland or are you talking about his games with GB thrown in? Flynn was absolute hot garbage as our QB.

  • the authoritative dr robert

    Lol. That stings!

  • jtdxyz

I’d actually be surprised if Mark fires Reggie & DA…since he has obviously shown some fierce loyalty to his barber.

  • marks hair

true.. and it can only be fixed at the top by Mark cutting his losses and starting again

  • Ron69

    “Pryor to start season finale”
As we all know at this point MM>>Pryor with that being said:
-it will be his last game as a Raider, dealt or cut this coming offseason, obviously they want middle-late draft pick in return.

  • funnyfalcon

    His barber the bowl.

  • SR Raider

Mark: step into my office…DA looked like a dead man walking at that press conference. Probably wants a new start somewhere else…HC is too much for him

  • the authoritative dr robert

Go check the stats. Flynn is the best qb the raiders played this season.

    Factually undeniable.

  • Alex7

    exactly. Much ado about nothing.

Only weird fans think it matters who starts at QB week 17 of a 4-12 season.

Did Billy Joe Hobert or Aaron Brooks start week 17 of the 2005 season? Oh wait, it doesn’t matter.

  • BigBenRexor

I want D.A.Cup gone, but I want it to be Reggie who makes the Call. If not, then Mark needs to fire them both. No sense in keeping a GM if you have to go over his head to get things done.

  • marks hair

da and reg are digging themselves into a giant chasm.. mark is the only person holding a rope. let’s hope he uses it to hang those two f****** idiots

  • the authoritative dr robert

He finds a style and sticks with it dam it.

  • Alex7

did you think we’d win more games than last year after slashing 40 million of payroll and going with cheap unknowns at QB? Why?

  • willy91137

did to role-play the last game last year Mark wants to see how much he has him proved to a

  • trogPOUNDA

wants to make sure we get that no 3 pick

  • TrevJo

It’s not about the weather. It’s about having the crowd help your defense instead of hurting your offense. You also don’t want to face the officials in Foxboro, as we found out in the Tuck F*** and the Broncos found out in the 2nd half of the regular season game vs New England this year.

  • the authoritative dr robert

    U silver tongue

  • Alex7

So either our talent is to blame for our NFL worst record the last 13 years…

or coaches matter a LOT and we just seem to have no luck finding the right one despite one of them leaving here and winning 3 playoff games in 2 years immediately after.

    Hmmmm.

  • funnyfalcon

Hasn’t really mattered since week 11 or so.

  • elraidmanhattan

So let me get this straight, as per Cork pryor doesn’t fit the prototype qb reggie and allen prefer that is why he starts the finale, was obvious last year they didn’t want him to start either but did the for the season finale. Ok now I get it.

  • the authoritative dr robert

    Yeah. AD was dysfunctional.

    Glad we aren’t anymore.

  • Alex7

it was a deconstructed team for evaluation purposes and not much else. Just storing cap space and finding keepers for next year.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    Or a combination of both?

  • funnyfalcon

It’s an 84 rating that feels like a -84. Good riddance to that clown.

  • JV.

If we draft manziel will he also be wearing the number 2???

  • marks hair

I got a great recommendation for GM..
    really who?
my son….err, I mean the man who has my sons job..err, I mean Reggie is totally ready to be a GM..

mark… duh your hired! I mean reggie hired.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Billy Joe Hobert was awesome to end the year the last few games his rookie year!!!
Another guy that never improved from his first few starts.

  • RaidingTexas

How do you evaluate one without the other?

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

He deserves it in all honesty.

  • NYCRaider

The last person i would want to pick a new head coach is also the last person I want to pick our next QB. Its amazing what gets swept under the rug is in just 1 year , RM’s bad decisions created more than 20+ million of dead money in 2013. Its funny because so many people say RM had little room to make decisions yet he found a way to bumble his way into creating ON HIS OWN 20+ million in dead money.Imagine if he had more money to spend..

  • Alex7

    Mark’s Hair

could you elaborate on how Reggie did a terrible job finding players this off-season?

Can you name a free agent that we could have afforded and passed on? Or how we could have added talent while being forced to slash $50 million in payroll?

No one seems to have answers, just whines. I’d say to find 5 or 6 keepers when picking from the bottom of minimum-salary players is ok.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    #1

  • TrevJo

Allen said he would play both QBs down the stretch. Two hours ago you called Allen a liar for not playing Pryor. Now he is playing Pryor.

But, you’re a hater, and haters gonna hate.

  • Alex7

you can’t. That’s the point. You CAN’T evaluate a coach until you give him talent.

  • JV.

    I’d pick 12

  • RaidingTexas

No, time to retire that number. And not for good reasons.

  • Alex7

how? How do you evaluate a coach fielding a JV team?

Very few blowouts, which is kinda surprising with our QBs. Surprised a few teams this year, and even staying close to the Chiefs, Broncos, splitting with SD, beating the Steelers…

it seems we did as much as expected with a bottom-5 roster.

  • JV.

    Marquette shoulda kept it

  • Alex7

I guess this is the simple question that no one answers:

Given our absolute JV-team roster, easily bottom-5 in the league, and having 3 playoff teams in our division, our 2013 record should have been…?

I mean, many of us in here predicted about 5 wins since September due to the roster. Not sure how the coach is to blame if we were right where most thought we’d be.

  • NYCRaider

3-4 to start 2 seasons, 1-8 to finish both seasons. Typically coaches can be evaluated by did they take a team regardless of talent level and get the most out of them and have them improve as the season progresses..HMMMMMM

  • elraidmanhattan

Da and reggie wouldn’t know a good qb if it stared them straight in the face

  • BigBenRexor

No one answers you because you’re a dumb $h!t, no offense.

  • Alex7

none taken, coming from a kid who cusses online and can’t answer the question.

  • Dakota

BS….Dennis Allen is coaching NFL players, maybe not the best of the best, but they are still NFL players…..especially on defense. Burnett, Sims, Roach, Porter, Woodson, Jenkins, Walker…..all decent players from other teams…..and Dennis Allen has taken them, with Tarver’s help, and turned them into one of the worst defenses in the history of the Oakland Raiders….and he did the same thing with an entirely different group of defensive players last year……HE CAN’T EVEN COACH HIS OWN SPECIALTY; DEFENSE!

  • funnyfalcon

RM made a couple gambles and they didn’t pan out. I guess that’s what bugs us most is that he’s a new GM and he’s making new GM mistakes. Our team has been losing for so long, that patience is something that can’t really be afforded. Could it be better? Maybe. Has he put us in a good position to have a good draft and FA off-season? Most definitely. Question is, will he make the best of it? Seems like we will have to wait and see. Right now, looks up in the air…

  • Alex7

    or put another way…

Vegas had us around 5 wins because we have a 5-win roster or because suddenly some small-time coach robbed this talent-laden team of a couple of victories?

Hmm, Vegas knew what everyone knew. You’re not going to win 6 to 8 games with Pryor and McGloin and undrafted RBs and WRs and 9 minimum-salary defenders.

Simple. But keep crying about how one person who schedules practices is to blame.

  • marks hair

2 drafts and fa periods with no impact players acquired.. 20 to 30 million dollars of dead money on Reggie. not al. that’s plenty enough money for any of the free agents available this offseason we wanted.. I’m not saying they would have signed here but its obvious reg is just wildly choosing players hoping they fit.. and any GM that takes an entire year to evaluate his new team, is pure crap.. how can he be expected to evaluate an entire draft class and free agent group in such a short amount of time?? he can’t.

as far as names? ansah, star or richarson and john abraham.. these are a few of the names I was mentioning way back when.
