Raiders at full strength; they’ll need to be

The Raiders appear to be at full strength for the second consecutive practice Thursday in preparation to face the Denver Broncos.

The Raiders switched their usual weekly routine, praciting Tuesday and then taking Christmas off. Ordinarily, the Raiders are off Tuesday and practice Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Raiders had their first practice of the season during which all 53 men on the roster were healthy enough to participate.

They’ll need everyone they can get to stay with the Broncos, who are 12-3 and will go into the game possibly needing a win to secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Denver, with Peyton Manning having thrown an NFL record 51 touchdown passes, has scored 572 points and has five players _ Knowshon Moreno, Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, Eric Decker and Wes Welker _ with 10 touchdowns or more.

The Raiders by contrast, have had two players with 10 touchdowns or more in the last 11 years, Lamont Jordan in 2005 and Darren McFadden in 2010.

“Obviously they’re the best team in our division and the best team in our conference right now,’’ Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. “The quarterback may be one of the bets players to ever play the game . . . We’re going to have to do a great job defensively of keeping the ball in front of us and do a great job of tackling when they throw it underneath.’’

Manning is completing 67.4 perdcent of his passes for 5,211 yards, 51 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for a passer rating of 113.0.

Through Oakland’s five-game losing streak against Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tony Romo, Geno Smith, Alex Smith and Philip Rivers, the Raiders surrendered a 70.5 completion percentage (108-for-153), 1,275 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions for a passer rating of 112.0.

    I’m over them both….Blake Bortles for QB in 14….Pryor for #1 WR….or TE….which ever….

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Amazing what getting the ball out quickly (instead of running around for half an hour) will do…

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Pryor’s not switching positions. He’ll be gone before Game 1 of next season.

  • BOKNOWS

    Ok with that too…

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

    How?

  • BOKNOWS

    Then Benjamin for FL state!

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    Sounds pretty spot on.

  • BOKNOWS

    Fire sale???

  • SnBG

How about a new owner. Isn’t he ultimately at fault for this mess.

  • RaidingTexas

What Flynn got was quite a bit less than what Palmer would’ve made. And every day that Flynn has been on the Bills and Packers rosters, the offset language in the contract reduces what the Raiders pay him.

  • the authoritative dr robert

Benjamin, Evans, and Robinson are tall WRs Reggie will love.

  • SnBG

    Gots to agree with that.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

I think Arizona is quite content to pay that conditional draft pick.

  • TrevJo

    Murray is the 2nd RB.
I agree that we could use a true #1 WR although I disagree that our young guys’ time has passed to emerge. Streater is the oldest of the group and he has only been in the league 2 years. Moore has been in the league the longest and he just turned 24 years old.

Palmer was always going to be a better QB than the cesspool of QB “talent” we had available to us. This is why the trade didn’t make sense, but Reggie gambled and it failed miserably. Let’s hope he learns from his mistakes.

  • SnBG

Bortles lady here. I sure agree with that.

  • Twinkle

Apparently has bone spurs that will need surgery.More than likely keep him out of the combine and the pro audition games. That’ll drop him down a spot or two not to mention feeding the frenzy of the ‘character pick’ lobby in here. Can’t wait to see which ‘good character type’ RM drops on us instead….not.

  • funnyfalcon

    awesome

  • RaidingTexas

The Raiders OL was not nearly the mess the first half that some make it out to be. Where’s Gdog? He loves bringing up PFF stats. Raiders were ranked solidly in the middle of the pack through October. They looked bad at times because Pryor was unpredictable, running around like a scalded dog, making the blocking difficult for everyone.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Raiders will probably have seven 7th round draft picks with all the one year contracts going elsewhere.

  • the authoritative dr robert

Yeah. He thinks he’s a superstar. So does his agent.

No one will trade for him. He might not even find a home if we cut him.

No room for him on the roster.

  • TrevJo

Sometimes I think half of you people don’t understand the concept of rebuilding.

  • TrevJo

    Good for them?

  • funnyfalcon

why not unblock the site so you can post from your pc?

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Couldn’t trade or cut anybody if we wanted. The minute Sunday’s game is over, our roster is frozen until after the Super Bowl.

  • FourMoreYears

DA with a chance to make history on Sunday, would be the first coach in the NFL to go back to back 4-12 in first two seasons with a team.

  • inonewordraider

    rob
pryor didn’t set the world on fire, but neither did “top ten qb” matt Flynn
they’ve both disappointed, but pryor still has a shot, let’s see what he does sunday

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Not true. Leeman Bennett went 2-14 and 2-14 with the Bucs in the 80s.

  • TrevJo

Good link. I remember reading about that game in Dr. Rob Huizenga’s book, “You’re OK, It’s Just A Bruise”

  • inonewordraider

    #1 choice David Shaw
    #2 choice Jon Gruden
    #3 choice Dennis Allen

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Since neither of the first two picks are coming here…

  • FourMoreYears

Not 4-12 though. Many coaches have matched win totals in first two seasons, just with different numbers.

  • funnyfalcon

What concept of weakening the team when you didn’t have to falls under the concept of rebuilding? I think you don’t understand this concept.

  • the authoritative dr robert

    Let’s see the truth:

Pryor has a 66 rating. That’s really bad. Like horrible.

Flynn had an 83 rating in his one game and over 90 with GB.

Pryor has nothing. He is playing Sunday but it will just prove more of what we already know. He sucks.

Flynn isn’t great but his 90+ rating WOULD have him in the top ten or twelve.

    I was right.

  • TrevJo

I don’t understand the “you didn’t have to” part. We were way overdue to blow things up and fix our cap problems.

  • inonewordraider

I’ll try, not very tech saavy though

  • the authoritative dr robert

    New post

  • SnBG

    Don’t forget Walsh’s first to seasons 2-14

  • inonewordraider

oh come on rob, you aren’t gonna tell me he’s a top ten qb in the nfl just to prove your point are you?
you know Flynn sucks, he sucked the game he started with us and he’s sucked for GB (although not as bad as he sucked for us)

  • SnBG

No I think PFF had one or two guys rated above average and Barnes and Nix where at the bottom of the pile.

  • the authoritative dr robert

Facts are facts. He doesn’t suck. Stats prove it.

  • funnyfalcon

The savings from trading Palmer ended up being a wash after having to go out and grab an mostly unproven QB. With no clear replacement, that’s why the move doesn’t fall under the rebuilding category as much as it falls under Reggie wanting his guy here. It was an excuse to justify his gamble and it failed.

  • funnyfalcon

    Here’s some stats:

    Flynn 2-3 in 5 starts
    Pryor 3-5 in 8 starts

Pryor with 1 more win! There’s some hard core stats for you.

  • the authoritative dr robert

Those are team stats, not qb stats. Simpleton talk.

  • inonewordraider

Lot of close games early in the season. A stud LDE (Clowney? Michael Johnson? Jared Allen?) on the left with Houston on the right and a healthy Jared Veldheer could have tilted the balance of a few of those games.
We win a few more early, we’re not dialing it in late in the season because we have something to play for.
Don’t think we’re that far away. A stud LDE, a healthy Branch and Veldheer, an eligible Holmes for the whole year, improvement in the qb position, a seasoned Rivera, and NFL punt/kick returners

  • BigBenRexor

You’re asking alot of a 6th round pick that we’ve never seen run the ball.

  • BigBenRexor

We’ve never even seen Watson play.

  • funnyfalcon

Ha, so the QB is throwing to himself now? ;-)

  • Twinkle

Nor has any one else…..he’s played the game maybe twenty times in his life. And folks in here think he’s gonna be our savior at T….smfh..
