Broncos 34, Raiders 7

Note: Posted with 3:27 remaining . . .

The Raiders went out with a whimper Sunday, mere foils for the Denver Broncos in a 34-7 defeat at O.co Coliseum.

In losing their last six games and eight of nine, the Raiders were at their least competitive in finishing 4-12 as Peyton Manning needed only one half to set the NFL all-time passing yardage record and give Denver (13-3) the home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Manning completed 25 of 28 passes for 266 yards and touchdown passes of 3 yards to Eric Decker, 7 yards to Knowshon Moreno and 63 and 5 yards to Demaryius Thomas. The Broncos also got a 34-yard field goal from Matt Prater.

The last touchdown, which came with 13 second left in the half, gave Manning the yardage he needed to get to 5,477 yards and break the record Drew Brees set in 2011 by a single yard.

With the game under control, Manning took the second half off in favor of Brock Osweieler in the second half, with Denver taking itws foot off the gas and the Raiders still unable to move the ball. Prater had a 54-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

The Raiders avoided the shutout when quarterback Terrelle Pryor hit Rod Streater for a 14-yard touchdown with 4:24 remaining.

The mismatch drew scattered boos from the crowd, which was infiltrated by plenty of Broncos fans wearing orange.

It remains to be seen how owner Mark Davis will react to the lack of fight the Raiders showed in closing out the season. Raiders coach Dennis Allen is scheduled to meet the media Monday at 1 p.m.

Davis said recently general manager Reggie McKenzie would first meet with the coaching staff before McKenzie would meet with Davis to determine how the Raiders would proceed.’

Allen has two years remaining on the his contract, while McKenzie has three.

Only two Raiders coaches have survived a six-game losing streak to close out the season, Marty Feldman in 1961 and Mike White in 1995, the latter under Al Davis.

Given the Raiders defensive difficulties of late, Manning’s domination through the air wasn’t surprising. What they couldn’t anticipate was an ineffective offense under Pryor.

Oakland managed only 55 yards of total offense in the first half against a defense that is without its best player, Von Miller, and was ranked 22nd in yardage coming in to the game.

The Broncos drove 71 yards in 12 plays the first time they had the ball, with Manning finding Decker in the end zone. A poor shotgun snap by Stefen Wisniewski couldn’t be handled by Pryor on the Raiders next possession, with Denver’s Sylvester Williams recovering.

That set up a short-field 21-yard drive, with Manning finding Moreno on a screen over the middle from seven yards.

Denver’s lone failure of the half on a third down set up Prater’s 34-yard field goal. Working mostly underneath, Manning hit Thomas on a 63-yard strike against Brandian Ross on third-and-4. The last touchdown of the to Thomas eclipses Brees’ record by a yard.

    From Raiders.com

When Dennis Allen became the 18th head coach in Raiders history on Jan. 30, 2012, he promised to field a tough, smart, disciplined and committed football team, noting that organizations win games in the National Football League by more than talent alone.

After two years, can anyone here call our team tough, smart, disciplined, and committed?

  • 0ak R8rs

No. We mustn’t. Because she is a lawyer. As far as I know, her only venture into player personnel was the Palmer trade. She’s a bitter cnt and has 0.0 credibility.

  • turf toe

He swept the dinner table like a drunk at the downtown mission. Two years out, and we’re the joke of the league.

  • 2romes

Save the pep talk for Reggie and DA.

  • Al_is_theraiders

just as the smart ones predicted…4-12…again..

  • Alex7

Hmm, looks like we covered it thoroughly. No moves debated, only results of this year’s 1st round pick, which is silly to do this early.

  • Angry Little Man

We as Raider fans deserve a better coach the whole Raider Nation deserves better. Goodbye Allen and Tarver

  • funnyfalcon

    yeah he’s all right.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

She’s an ex-employee with an axe to grind.

  • The Florida Pete

    yeah I saw…
    but I think she’s got a point…

  • Rico Stifler

Brisiel has been pretty solid this year actually. Pashos was solid in games he played. Also, Watson will be the designated Rt heading into next season. Watson never got a chance to really play this year cuz of nagging injuries.

I’d def want to resign Pashos and Gurode for depth.

  • Alex7

    rates “good” games lol.
Is there an “average”, a “great”, a super great. You add no context.

  • 0ak R8rs

GTFOH! Please tell me you just made that up.

  • turf toe

I thought she made sense. Did you see that piece?

  • Twinkle

That’s OK Dr Bob has never been that big on differentiating between facts and pertinent facts anyway….just another obstacle in his path to distract…whilst he’s busy hurtling toward yet another wrong conclusion.

  • Rico Stifler

Hence the failed miserably part or did you purposely skipped that part?

  • wildsach

the TP garbage time “shotput shhhhittshow”.

  • funnyfalcon

The mental imagery! You’re on fire tonight. I’m LMAOing right now.

  • Gdog

Only because you have no idea what you are talking about, duh. PFF rates every PLAY. JFC… I am done…

  • Alex7

? After paying $ while Al flushed the team down the toilet for 13 years in a row, I’m not sure we deserve anything.

  • Umrao32

I completely agree. Trask was a yes person. Though I believe that she fought a lot with Al, she is a Lawyer. She didn’t do anything except run errands for Al when he needed s**t done when he couldn’t travel. END OF STORY

  • Al_is_theraiders

    off season has begun….great.

  • Alex7

Yep, never doubt the voices that are “contrarian,” for we are usually right.

  • 0ak R8rs

Thank god. I was gonna lose my FCKING mind. That would have certainly pushed me over the fence against DA.

  • Rico Stifler

Yeah, they hired him this year.

  • wildsach

no longer a BIG FISH in a little pond.

  • Alex7

you forgot to add “right after upper management is done with the whole slashing $40 million of payroll and not having a full draft.”

  • plunkhead

It was lawyer talk so she can deny saying what we thought she said.

  • funnyfalcon

    you b4stard

  • JV.

Kyle orton destroyed our defense in the preseason, should be enough to win tonight

    *sarcasm

  • EMRaiders

I remember when DA was just hired he made a comment about the rivalries within the AFC W, (Den, SD, KC), he said: “I don’t think any team is more special than other team, and we will play every game with the same passion” or something like that, but pretty much stressing how he didn’t believe in the historic rivalries between the Broncos, KC and SD and the Raiders.

It was then, when I realized that he FOR SURE would not be a good HC for us. I Thought it when he first got hired, but when I heard those comments, I knew it would be so.

  • Alex7

lol, Amy knows coaching now! Notice no other team picked her up.

  • Umrao32

As for Tarver, I’d say walk the plank. He was horrendous and put players in the wrong position to make good solid plays. Trust me players also need to be held accountable as well.

  • Rico Stifler

Yeah, I am seeing a lot of articles pointing to Chuds ouster…. But then again, maybe they realized they should have hired a HC with Chud in his name…

  • FourMoreYears

Even with the extenuating circumstances, I find it hard to believe that a competent organization would have nothing to show for two years worth of work.

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

How could you forget keeping 2 punters over David bass?

  • Alex7

is this the same Amy that watched our franchise’s value plummet to bottom 5, our merchandise sales plummet, and our ticket sales plummet?
    Umm, pass on her advice.

  • plunkhead

She should have said, Al screwed up turning it over to old frozen balls and FB hired a bunch of rookies just to prove he is a dumb b u tt. Now its more screwed up then Al and I ever thought possible

  • David Henderson

When I listen to Allen, I am NOT inspired… When I listen to Reggie, I am NOT inspired… When I listen to Jon Gruden, I get the checkbook out, whatever it TAKES, Mark…

  • Angry Little Man

Jano doesn’t get a free pass with me either. What’s his problem ?

  • Umrao32

I’d rather have Kyle Orton than the rumors from the NFL critic’s we should go after Cutler. HELLS NO

  • wildsach

if he blocks like he passes, no thanks.

  • 0ak R8rs

McGee. Rivera. Maybe Bergstrom if he didn’t get hurt. Not too bad actually since 3 others r IRd. Not great. But 3 starters on a bad team. Could be worse w the health issues of the 1st and 2nd.

  • RaidingTexas

Orton to Escobar TD. Just FYI

  • funnyfalcon

Philly vs Dallas game is marching to a boring conclusion. Switched back to the breaking bad marathon and as soon as I turn to it, Tio Salamanca is taking a leak in the pool. fml.

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

Being a crappy starter isn’t a successful move…unless you’re going to going to defend all the “starts” DHB had
