Broncos 34, Raiders 7

Note: Posted with 3:27 remaining . . .

The Raiders went out with a whimper Sunday, mere foils for the Denver Broncos in a 34-7 defeat at O.co Coliseum.

In losing their last six games and eight of nine, the Raiders were at their least competitive in finishing 4-12 as Peyton Manning needed only one half to set the NFL all-time passing yardage record and give Denver (13-3) the home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Manning completed 25 of 28 passes for 266 yards and touchdown passes of 3 yards to Eric Decker, 7 yards to Knowshon Moreno and 63 and 5 yards to Demaryius Thomas. The Broncos also got a 34-yard field goal from Matt Prater.

The last touchdown, which came with 13 second left in the half, gave Manning the yardage he needed to get to 5,477 yards and break the record Drew Brees set in 2011 by a single yard.

With the game under control, Manning took the second half off in favor of Brock Osweieler in the second half, with Denver taking itws foot off the gas and the Raiders still unable to move the ball. Prater had a 54-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

The Raiders avoided the shutout when quarterback Terrelle Pryor hit Rod Streater for a 14-yard touchdown with 4:24 remaining.

The mismatch drew scattered boos from the crowd, which was infiltrated by plenty of Broncos fans wearing orange.

It remains to be seen how owner Mark Davis will react to the lack of fight the Raiders showed in closing out the season. Raiders coach Dennis Allen is scheduled to meet the media Monday at 1 p.m.

Davis said recently general manager Reggie McKenzie would first meet with the coaching staff before McKenzie would meet with Davis to determine how the Raiders would proceed.’

Allen has two years remaining on the his contract, while McKenzie has three.

Only two Raiders coaches have survived a six-game losing streak to close out the season, Marty Feldman in 1961 and Mike White in 1995, the latter under Al Davis.

Given the Raiders defensive difficulties of late, Manning’s domination through the air wasn’t surprising. What they couldn’t anticipate was an ineffective offense under Pryor.

Oakland managed only 55 yards of total offense in the first half against a defense that is without its best player, Von Miller, and was ranked 22nd in yardage coming in to the game.

The Broncos drove 71 yards in 12 plays the first time they had the ball, with Manning finding Decker in the end zone. A poor shotgun snap by Stefen Wisniewski couldn’t be handled by Pryor on the Raiders next possession, with Denver’s Sylvester Williams recovering.

That set up a short-field 21-yard drive, with Manning finding Moreno on a screen over the middle from seven yards.

Denver’s lone failure of the half on a third down set up Prater’s 34-yard field goal. Working mostly underneath, Manning hit Thomas on a 63-yard strike against Brandian Ross on third-and-4. The last touchdown of the to Thomas eclipses Brees’ record by a yard.

But did you see it? I didn’t see any attempt by her to promote herself or to grandstand. Everything she said made sense.

  • Umrao32

The NFL critics keep mentioning we should sign Cutler if he’s available. HELL NO…

  • JV.

He also said “this is a new day in Oakland raider football, we will have an offense that will move down the field and move the chains with ease, we will have a tough defense that will stop opposing offenses” or something to that matter. What a joke he was saying anything up there in that press conference like how presidents say anything to be elected into office.

  • The Florida Pete

    lmao…
    you’re joking, right???

  • Alex7

He kept most of the 8-8 team last year in tact, and we went 4-12. How quickly we forget.
Raider fans pining for DHB, Bush, Wimbley, Routt, and T. Kelly all making $8 million plus. Sad.

  • plunkhead

It was a good one, wasn’t it. I can see Alfalfa sending it

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

LOL! I thought Cork was smart.

  • Twinkle

Rightfully so.DA’s wrong moves will cost a game or a player or two whilst Regime’s could cost us a decade more in the brightly lit confines of the very bottom of the league. The young guys in here don’t have a clue of what it’s like when people are way too afraid to spit on your Uni while you are at their stadium.

  • turf toe

I wish she had said that. Pretty funny, PH.

  • SaintKaufman

    Then he started Pryor. Ugh!

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

Him & Raliegh need another year of paychecks so they can geat their weight at Pizza Hut for an entire year

  • JV.

They should hire one with Dennis, worked for us.

  • funnyfalcon

Maybe they meant as head trainer? Kid’s a run-run jones in the making.

  • Rico Stifler

Not like he had much cap room to begin with. A lot of that dead money was from cutting players on the roster before he came here.

  • RaidingTexas

Only the Palmer Penile Party is buying that Cutler stock.

  • 0ak R8rs

Yea. Terrible. Not that Bass is an all pro or anything. But we certainly could have used a little pass rush potential. He had flashes in preseason. Had at least one good game w the Bears.

  • Angry Little Man

Raider fans are some of the most if not the most loyal fans in the NFL. I say we make a pitch to Bill Cowher

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

    I agree too

  • Big Tom ‘the hand’ Cable

Who thinks a drafted QB is gonna come here and clean up this garbage. Ain’t gonna happen. Our #1 was a #4 ufa and our previous #1 was flushed down the toilet and our draft pick was let go like hot garbage and our project QB has to seek help outside the organization cuz we do not develop or manage QBs. College players hear this. U think anyone is comin here to put a coat of paint on this pile of trash? Get fckn real. Hire outside help to make McGloin and TP get better, starting first thing in the morning. Go after josh mccown from the bears. If Allen has any balls left in his chewed up nut sack, he’ll get busy starting at 5am in the morning. Fck the exit interviews. Get your pillaged man hole to work. Fckn trash heap of dung.

  • Umrao32

    OH SNAP!!!!!
Just no QB really stands out in FA in my mind that can “BRING IT”

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

I’d dump DA in two seconds flat to get Cowher or Lovie Smith. Doubt they’d be interested, though.

  • RaidingTexas

Let me introduce you to the Davis family.

  • jumpnjiminy

    Who the hell cares….

  • JV.

    Lovie might be.

  • jesusraiderjim

LMAO!! Big Tom you the MAN!!

  • Alex7

if you don’t understand that a top QB is the most important position in be helped.

  • turf toe

Jesus, Alex. Did you watch the segment? How could you disagree with what she said?

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

“Has to seek help outside the organization” — Once again, Olson and Flip WERE NOT PERMITTED to have any contact with Pryor during the offseason except for OTAs and the like.

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

Cowher doesn’t have the burning desire to win…Think Parcells after NE

  • SaintKaufman

That’s the kind of move I’m talking about. Guys need to be able to cut like that. Although McCoy does it better than most.

  • http://wix.com/ggeden/ggeden GG

Yeah, but you have to keep drafting them, keep trying to find the one. Dont trust RM to identify him. Hopefully someone else in the org like Allen or Saunders etc can pick the QB they want and tell RM to draft him.

  • Angry Little Man

High 1st round draft pick, plenty of cap space and of course the mystique of the Raiders.

  • NYCRaider

not sure if Da has balls but i know he has t!ts

  • Dakota

Two consecutive seasons finishing 1-8 down the stretch and Lefty wants them back….wtf?

  • Big Tom ‘the hand’ Cable

    Cutler sucks.

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

It will start when Grimmace gets sent back to Wisconsin

  • plunkhead

Fire everyone, hire an O coach, sign Cutler, draft Sammy, draft a third round QB, get a pass rusher in FA
    *=
    Playoffs, Baby

  • Umrao32

Cowher on CBS Pre-Game show mentioned the Raiders should keep DA.
    1) Who is a better option?
    2) Getting a high profile HC will cost a ton of money, more power and more drama.
    His words

  • http://wix.com/ggeden/ggeden GG

Lovie will end up in Dallas.

  • The Florida Pete

uh,,, dude… they “fixed” an offense that was not broken by installing the ZBS and completely ignored the defense…
and it was the defense that let us down the year before…
    you did notice this, yes???

  • Chino

It’s been a couple hours. What’s the hold up?

  • Big Tom ‘the hand’ Cable

    His leg went limp.

  • Morilla_00

Did he say go after McCown?

  • Angry Little Man

    Not as many losses tho

  • jesusraiderjim

    exactly

  • FourMoreYears

    New post

  • Rico Stifler

A few players don’t outweigh the majority of what he did. Besides, would Abraham really have been that much of a help considering where we ultimately ended up? Also, Maiava dealt with injuries for much of the season. Cutting Maiava would save 1M in cap space if RM feels he missed on that signing.

  • Umrao32

Cutler is a head case at best.

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

Raiders fans are pinning for year 3 after 2 8-8 seasons as opposed to year 3 after 2 4-12 seasons. But hey if you think losing with Bergstrom, Hayden on IR and Watson at TE is wonderful, have at it.

  • Twinkle

Are we adverse to resigning our own homegrown talent now?Why wouldn’t Lamarr want to sign?
