Broncos 34, Raiders 7

The Raiders went out with a whimper Sunday, mere foils for the Denver Broncos in a 34-7 defeat at O.co Coliseum.

In losing their last six games and eight of nine, the Raiders were at their least competitive in finishing 4-12 as Peyton Manning needed only one half to set the NFL all-time passing yardage record and give Denver (13-3) the home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Manning completed 25 of 28 passes for 266 yards and touchdown passes of 3 yards to Eric Decker, 7 yards to Knowshon Moreno and 63 and 5 yards to Demaryius Thomas. The Broncos also got a 34-yard field goal from Matt Prater.

The last touchdown, which came with 13 second left in the half, gave Manning the yardage he needed to get to 5,477 yards and break the record Drew Brees set in 2011 by a single yard.

With the game under control, Manning took the second half off in favor of Brock Osweieler in the second half, with Denver taking itws foot off the gas and the Raiders still unable to move the ball. Prater had a 54-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

The Raiders avoided the shutout when quarterback Terrelle Pryor hit Rod Streater for a 14-yard touchdown with 4:24 remaining.

The mismatch drew scattered boos from the crowd, which was infiltrated by plenty of Broncos fans wearing orange.

It remains to be seen how owner Mark Davis will react to the lack of fight the Raiders showed in closing out the season. Raiders coach Dennis Allen is scheduled to meet the media Monday at 1 p.m.

Davis said recently general manager Reggie McKenzie would first meet with the coaching staff before McKenzie would meet with Davis to determine how the Raiders would proceed.’

Allen has two years remaining on the his contract, while McKenzie has three.

Only two Raiders coaches have survived a six-game losing streak to close out the season, Marty Feldman in 1961 and Mike White in 1995, the latter under Al Davis.

Given the Raiders defensive difficulties of late, Manning’s domination through the air wasn’t surprising. What they couldn’t anticipate was an ineffective offense under Pryor.

Oakland managed only 55 yards of total offense in the first half against a defense that is without its best player, Von Miller, and was ranked 22nd in yardage coming in to the game.

The Broncos drove 71 yards in 12 plays the first time they had the ball, with Manning finding Decker in the end zone. A poor shotgun snap by Stefen Wisniewski couldn’t be handled by Pryor on the Raiders next possession, with Denver’s Sylvester Williams recovering.

That set up a short-field 21-yard drive, with Manning finding Moreno on a screen over the middle from seven yards.

Denver’s lone failure of the half on a third down set up Prater’s 34-yard field goal. Working mostly underneath, Manning hit Thomas on a 63-yard strike against Brandian Ross on third-and-4. The last touchdown of the to Thomas eclipses Brees’ record by a yard.

He stinks. THAT is the problem.
Probably worst kicker in the league.
New Orleans cut Hartley for going 15-21 I believe…

  • Angry Little Man

    Are we picking 4th ?

  • Dakota

5.3 ypc 2010-2011….3.3 ypc after lisfranc. There it is.

  • Rico Stifler

I think that was DA’s decision cuz he oversaw the players on the field. It was up to DA to keep two punters over Bass. He just told RM to do it and he did. I doubt RM is watching every single practice from beginning to end and thinking who to cut or keep…

  • The Florida Pete

I don’t think Alex really needs information… in fact… I think information confuses him and scrambles what he perceives as clear lines of thinking…
    let it go…

  • RaidingTexas

Regardless of where you are on the DA thing, Trask’s comments should have no value. #1 she’s a woman. #2 she was fired recently. #3 the Raiders have mostly sucked since she has been affiliated with the team.

  • turf toe

    Yes.

  • David Henderson

Strange, but when Hayden went down, so did the rest of the D…

  • JV.

    5th officially

  • r8ter4evr

This makeover will take time F@ck retread QBs you know the names .Now big Ben Eli maybe but we need to get proven QB or go draft ,maybe Baylor QB Petty and a low risk player like Trent Murphy could be next great sack artist FINALLY PATIENCE SO START NEW BYE RM AND DA WE WANT WINNERS NOT UNPROVEN PROJECT PERSONAL

  • funnyfalcon

    Good point

  • Angry Little Man

Still should be able to get a very good player

  • JV.

The current situation we have is a perfect spot for a coach to make his mark. Tons of cap room, draft picks and an owner that doesn’t really butt in (so far) . DA or whoever is our coach next year better fuggin make something happen. We have a chance to actually build a good team and turn this thing around.

    Go raiders !!

  • Dakota

Settle down padawan. Much to learn you have.

  • The Florida Pete

yeah that explains it… he was the key… the lynchpin,,, the straw that stirred the drink…
    die uberman…

  • funnyfalcon

    Too much GBH

  • DJ Johnny

Al was only alive for the 9 seasons after the SB appearance and was .500 the last two.
So really…7 seasons of awful-ness. 2 of mediocrity.
    Where do u get 13?

  • RaidingTexas

Yep. Really loyal fans. Did you see that stadium today?

  • JV.

Also we are gonna see who declares and who’s gonna stay, if petty, Hundley and bridgewater do come out. We have more options of getting someone better then what we know ATM.

  • Rico Stifler

That is on DA cuz he is responsible for what we see on the field.

  • turf toe

I pined fo improvement, but instead of the tree, all we got were spiky, dried-up cones.

  • Rico Stifler

Petty has already said he is returning to Baylor.

  • Gdog

McGee would start on no other team. Reggie drafted 16 players and you think two is “not too bad?” I think you could do that well.. I would HOPE you could do that well…

  • DJ Johnny

    Only the idiots.

  • Alex7

The Browns did the anti-QB thing, drafting:
    Joe Thomas, pro-bowl LT.
    Joe Haden, pro-bowl CB.
    Josh Gordon, pro-bowl WR.
    Alex Mack, pro-bowl Center.
    RB in the top-10.
    .
Developed front-7 with Phil Taylor, D’Qwell Jackson, Paul Kruger, and Desmond Bryant.
    .
But no QB = no playoffs 9 of last 10 years.

  • Rico Stifler

I can agree with this. I think those are attractive reasons for a vet HC to sign on with us. it was part of why Reid went to KC.

  • JV.

Well then we wait on Hundley

  • Twinkle

who the hell cares? You doing anything?
Until we can stop teams from scoring 31 a half then you’d be as good as anyone else at QB…so you wouldn’t move the team….the only difference would be the gap in the margin of defeat would be larger.

  • 0ak R8rs

Outside of the last two years, he has been a disappointment overall. I know someone will argue w me and say “Raiders leading scorer” blah blah blah. It’s easier to be a leading scorer on a team like the raiders that doesn’t score touchdowns. He’s missed several big kicks in his career. As far as I’m concerned I’m ok if we give Carmona a shot and eat Janos $4 million next year.

  • DJ Johnny

…it had nothing to do with the product on the filed.

  • Rico Stifler

Hundley seems too raw and needs more time in college imo….

  • turf toe

I noticed. Alex did not. Alex also thinks Romo is not a choker. Alex needs help from all of us. Please give, folks.

  • 2romes

I want leaders to come here day one to evaluate talent not to tear down everything as a first thought

  • JV.

Seen good and bad. Better than Carr.

  • Alex7

a HC won’t care about salary cap, because he’ll have no say in who we sign.
He’ll just see zero QBs on the roster, and no play-makers on defense. He’ll see a rebuilding situation

  • EMRaiders

People are only saying we should sign Cutler because he is the only QB available worth a dam this offseason, and he is better than anything we have.

But they don’t take into account that Cutler will not come to Oakland. Unless he wants to come back to the AFC W and stick it to Denver, he has no incentive to come here. Besides a ton of money, which I think would be a lot better spent on filling all the holes in this team.

Plus Cutler bring with him drama of his own. I bet the moment we start losing, he will begin his whining and by next year will be asking to be traded.

But then, what other options do we have? Roll with McG and TP? Or draft a QB? I would say draft a QB, but only if one of the top 2 are available when we draft. IF not, then trade down a few spots and get a WR to go along with Nicks, if we get him. Then with Streater and Moore and Holmes, we are set at that position. Then draft a QB in the second rd. That’s how I would do it.

  • David Henderson

Ah nope, the great Ken Stabler was # 12, Plunk was 16, I believe…

  • Rico Stifler

    I wouldn’t go that far…..

  • EMRaiders

You need to score points to win.

  • 2romes

    Way to much drama.

  • JV.

A rebuilding situation that will end this season… Coaches have a say on draft day you know. And on player personal hence Allen with porter and young.

Way to hate on the raiders as always dumbass..

  • Alex7

fill all the holes like Cleveland? They have pro-bowl LT, pro-bowl C, pro-bowl WR, pro-bowl CB, a solid front 7, and drafted a top-10 RB.
And that got them what without a QB?

  • JV.

I knew u would say something haha

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Watson taken 42nd overall in 2013.
    42nd overall in 2010, Gronkowski
42nd overall in 2009, Jarius Byrd
Pro Bowlers. Time to step up next year Menelik, 2nd rounders are expected to just HOPEFULLY contribute

  • EMRaiders

Read the post dude. I’m not saying not to get a QB, just to get one on the draft…jeesh…

  • The Florida Pete

the raiders have actually had some very decent QBs over the past 10 years… but when they get hurt we either play them into the ground (Kiffie)
or we let them get healthy but replace them (Jackman)

  • turf toe

I barked out a laugh at #1. Okay, I give up, and she’s an old ho loser unemployed deadbeat,
Despite those misgivings, everything she said was correct.

  • Twinkle

We ain’t getting the top tier anyway eg PM….but don’t forget we’ve something Lots of others don’t now thanks to RM.
And when I last looked we’re still in the land of money talking and bullsh*t walking.

  • Alex7

how did you forget that last year we kept DHB, kept Seymour, kept Bush, kept Palmer, kept lots of the 8-8 guys, and went 4-12?
    we didn’t tear things until off-season 2.

  • Alex7

in round 2? Then you’re drafting like the 5th or 6th best QB of one year =(
not sure that helps. That’s like the Jason Campbells of the world.
