Allen has sign that he’ll be back as Raiders coach in 2014

ALAMEDA – Dennis Allen has yet to meet with owner Mark Davis, but he said Monday that he has a firm sense that he will be back for a third season as the Raiders head coach.
“I’ve been given the indication that I’ll be back,” Allen said during his year-end news conference, “but it will be important for me and Mark to be able to sit down and communicate and talk about the things that we need to talk about. I have every intention of being back.”
Allen said he intends to meet with Davis in the near future and that he is excited about the next phase of the process implemented by Davis, general manager Reggie McKenzie and Allen two years ago.
That marked Davis’ first full year as the owner, McKenzie’s as a general manager and Allen’s as a head coach.
The Raiders went 8-8 in 2011 under Hue Jackson. Allen guided the Raiders to 4-12 records each of the past two seasons in what Davis termed the “deconstruction” phase.
Allen said the Raiders now are entering the rebuilding phase and that tangible progress is on the horizon.
“We’re closer than what our record might indicate,” Allen said
When asked what he meant by “closer,” Allen said the Raiders have the ability to compete for one of six spots in the AFC Playoffs, perhaps as soon as next season.
“You’ve got to take it one step at a time,” Allen said. “I don’t think we need to be talking about Super Bowl. We need to be talking about competing in an area where we could possibly be a playoff team.”
Allen pointed out the Raiders being flush with salary-cap room in 2014, in possession of a slew of draft picks – they own the rights to the No. 5 selection in the NFL draft in May based on their finish this season – and several building blocks already in place.
The goal, he added, is to add two to three playmakers on offense and defense, be it through the draft or free agency. One of those players almost certainly will be a quarterback.
“That’s a position that we’ve got to make sure that we address,” Allen said. “I’m not sure that we have the quarterback of the future in the building right now.”
Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin are the only quarterbacks on the Raiders roster right now. They cut Matt Flynn early in the season and waived Tyler Wilson twice before he was signed by the Tennessee Titans off the Raiders practice squad.

Ok, 3 WRs not one of which made 1000 yards, an under utilized RB(FB), some OK LBs, our best player(Veldheer), Wiz who needs to go back to G, and out best DE.

Man, we are going to need a bunch of players.

  • RediaR

His agent doesn’t bother showing him the offer.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

You just got lonely and wanted to join the club.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Nonsense. I never tire of miss tick’s mistaken missives.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

We go to a one back offense, we don’t necessarily need to sign Jennings or another rb.
We have Reece who I think can be an every down back.
We have Murray, should be a 100%, if not we draft one in 2014.

    Papa is overrated…..

  • rifflicks

no….you emotional hot heads can have at it ……..it’s fun now to poke the fire and stoke the flames

Dennis Allen said he hopes to retain his coaching staff.

    good luck with that.

  • MEX_GHOST

A 13-35 record in 3 years will ensure that DA is gone?? Or the “progress” argument with a 5-11 season will be valid again??

  • DKnight007

Reggie is not signing elite players next year. Raiders should actually take the 2 1st round picks and not match Veldeers offer…depending on what team signs him to an offer….

  • RediaR

He just wants to have it in the room with him for the Pryor position switch conversation. “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!”

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Quit your edifying.

  • JV.

if mariota has an amazing and i mean AMAZING bowl game i can see him acutally coming out.

  • 2romes

Olawale, I like what I saw from him. He seems to be a match up problem as well. Can he be useful next year?

Nobody is going to give up two 1sts for Veldheer. He is the 4th best LT in our own division.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

    retain, WR’s, LB’s, OLine, TE’s, STs’ coaches/coordinator s.

    need new OC & DC.

  • JV.

hes more of a legit FB, reece is the mismatch at the wrong position.

  • rifflicks

he’s nowhere as impressive as Carr

  • JV.

no way olson goes, i can see tarver going tho.

  • RediaR

Tarver is the only coach with any potential.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

    me too.
Would definitely strengthen our draft position.

  • DKnight007

haha…thats the thing. If half of his staff leaves, which they probably will….then why keep Allen around. Just to make it look to potential coaches next year that “hey….the new Oakland Raiders will actually keep coaches around for 3 years….I might want to go there now.” Oy vey

  • JV.

our only hope haha, we need more impact players to come out. the combine will help us out as well. on draft day 1-2 guys will move up into the top 5 based on their combine numbers.

  • rifflicks

still grasping at them straws, and all for naught

  • 2romes

They had Olawale coming from the backfield into pass routes. They must feel he catch just as good as the can block or run.

Want did you mean about Reece in the wrong position?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

He’s got a brand new bag.

  • JV.

i can see tarver going based on how bad the defense was at the end. not blaming it on tarver of course but allen or mark might make it happen because of how bad we were (scapegoat).

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    didn’t see this.

  • JV.

reece would be a better TE or HB imo.

reece is good fb but he’d be more of a factor at one of those positions. he’d be our very own vernon davis or Jared cook. (speedy tight end.)

  • seymour bush

Another of the Pryor/Hue Jackson crowd. You would think they would get tired of being wrong over and over and over..

  • AutumnThunderstorm

    7-9 minimum
with more points scored than allowed
at least three position players in the probowl
    (not counting special teams)
QB effectiveness, at least top twenty.

  • seymour bush

At least he played hard at the end. Olawale played like he wanted to be here and have a job. Unlike Pryor.

  • rifflicks

short McGloin throwing to short TE Reese…classic

  • RediaR

    He calls it a murse.

  • seymour bush

Mariota has said he is going back to Eugene for next year. I don’t know who advises these kids, but it should be Matt Barkeley, Tyler Wilson and Matt Leinert advising them.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

my issue with Olson and Tarver

neither one can scheme for the screen pass

  • 2romes

I like him where he is. They need to better utilize him. He does not block well. Also, I like Rivera and Auberry at that position.

  • JV.

    yup.

  • rifflicks

ding ding ding,,,,this post is a real “winner”

  • DKnight007

Raiders pick at #5…..QB Bortles or DE/OLB’s Barr or Clowney.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Marriota is not pro ready, IMO.
One more year and he can be a top 5 pick. Come out and not do so hot in the pre draft stuff, and he can be the 8th QB taken.

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

    LoL

  • RediaR

Well are they legit top 10 prospects like the media hypes them up before and during the season or does the NFL look deeper and grade them lower? At least on Barkley I think the NFL would never have had him actually end up as a first rounder that year.

  • JV.

he said that after his stock plumeted when he lost to stanford. everyone was saying he crumbles under pressure. if he opens eyes again hes a shoe in for the top 10

  • willy91137

    New post

  • RediaR

I don’t know man, I’ve seen Reece make some key blocks. He sucked at blocking but has improved quite a bit.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Clady is the only LT in our division, even comparable to Vehldeer and he is injured for the season.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

I think Clady’s backup is better than Veldheer, Chris Clark. Fluker is a beast and the Chiefs LT went to the Pro Bowl.
Thanks for reminding me about Clady. Veldheer might be the 5th best LT in the division.
