Allen, McKenzie fighting to keep assistant coaches

Share

When coach Dennis Allen meets with owner Mark Davis at the start of the week, the status of Allen’s coaching staff figures to be a hot topic.
On Sunday, NFL Network’s Mike Silver said Davis is “resisting” the desire of Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie to have the contracts of the assistant coaches extended.
Davis could not be reached for comment Sunday.
Allen said he received an “indication” that he will be retained as the Raiders head coach. His assistant coaches might not have reason to be so confident.
Allen said last Monday that he is hopeful of getting the situation with his assistant coaches “worked out.” He is slated to meet with Davis either Monday or Tuesday depending upon Davis’ schedule.
Allen fired four assistant coaches one day after the 2012 season ended. His current staff remains unchanged.
“I don’t anticipate a lot of changes,” Allen said last Monday. “We’ll see what happens over the next few days and, obviously, there are a lot of discussions that have to be made.
“So, it’s probably not the right time to be able to make any type of comments on that, but I’m not looking to make a lot of changes. But we’ll see where that goes.
It’s uncertain how many of Allen’s assistant coaches’ contracts expire later this month. However, it’s likely that some, if not all, of the coaches hired by Allen when he arrived before the 2012 season are nearing the end of their contracts.

Agreed, but it wasn’t the Super Bowl.
I just don’t think the PATS have enough of their guys to win a Super Bowl this year.

  • Dakota

Too cheap to pay DA and a legit HC at the same time for two years…..only reasonable, yet schyyyty, answer.

  • RaiderLen

Never. It lends to the overall IQ though. lol

  • Dakota

    Jezuz Cripes!

  • RaiderLen

Crap shoot with both of them imo.

Still tempting in some respects, regardless.

  • Stabler

However…Bortles does get to destroy this on a regular basis. Game over, Bortles wins.

Anyone know if Carole Davis was a redhead?

  • Veldiman
  • funnyfalcon

    Culture change.

  • Rico Stifler

I can’t believe that MC Hammer used to be the A’s GM back in the 70’s…

  • RaiderLen

Bortles doesn’t settle. He has standards.

Sounds like a Pro to me.

  • Morilla_00

That’s fine. Hire back Wylie and Wiz.

  • Stabler
  • Veldiman

Yep. But why did they leave in the first place?

  • RaiderLen

You weren’t even in your Daddy’s nut sack. lol

  • Stabler

Charlie Finley nicknamed him Hammer, because he thought he looked like Hank Aaron (and hung around the Coliseum all the time.)

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    Rivers is playing loose.

  • NYCRaider

    greg knapp

  • Morilla_00

I think Wylie was let go and Wiz quit because of Knapp.

  • RaiderLen

    Exactly.

  • Rico Stifler

    lol.

  • Veldiman

Ok…so you think they will come back with DA still around?

  • NYCRaider

or professes his love for IHOP

  • prometheus

Raiders have allowed 1,328 points the last 3 seasons!! that has to be a RECORD. embarrassing

  • Morilla_00

Not sure, but the Oline loved those coaches. Veldheer spoke about Wylie a lot. I loved that guy.

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

Heard that they treated Wiz like he didn’t know anything

  • Chris in NY

I’m not sure about Bortles yet. I like the arm and mobility, but something doesn’t feel quite right. As of now, I think I’d rate the QBs:
    1. Bridgewater
    2. Manziel
    3. Carr
    4. Bortles
Having said that, I kind of agree with Cork that we need to go QB in the first round no matter what.

  • jesusraiderjim

A 1st round QB will cure all that. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RaiderLen

Well, we know Al wasn’t. That leaves Carole, or the “Milk Man.”

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    savoir faire?

  • Rico Stifler

Wylie did the magic tricks right? What’s not to love? Show me how to pancake a guy and then pull a quarter outta my ear. lol

  • Reggie is taking another broken Corner in the first round…

  • Veldiman

I think for those two to come back, the staff is going to have to change. Nothing but rave reviews from the Oline about those two.

  • Veldiman

    Exactly.

  • NYCRaider

But he had the quote of the year”my players play hard , just watch the film”

  • Veldiman

    Like THEY knew better.

  • prometheus

Raiders been giving up 28 PPG for the last 3 years. Aaron rodgers couldn’t win the AFC west with this defense

  • Michael

So on ESPN the first comment I see about the whiners game is a fan of sf complaining that the game wasn’t a blowout due to all the missed flags GB should have been called for. Your team wins a playoff game on a regulation ending field goal and you complain about flags? I swear that fan base has taken on their whiney coaches personality. Here’s hoping they get crushed by Carolina which begins a stretch worse than the NFL has ever seen.

  • Stabler

    Regular season = passing game

Postseason = defense and running the ball

(Or just have Andrew Luck on your team)

  • Rico Stifler

Or Uncle Jack… You know, that family friend who is ALWAYS around…..

  • Veldiman

My fingers won’t even type those letters anymore

  • Dakota

What about “Guys were flying around out there.” Someone tell DA that those guys were Broncos…..

  • prometheus

fruity fans are the most annoying in football. the cry about their team “only” being 12-4 then cry about WINNING playoff games. fruity niners fans are spoiled and obnoxious overall

  • RaiderLen

Sammy and all of them will love anything required for as long as it takes to get a contract. lol

Reggie isn’t making up His board based on “faith”

    See how that worked? lol

Best player will get drafted, provided He’s committed to football and isn’t self destructive.

  • Alex7

Playoff QBs left, and their overall draft slot:

    Rivers – 4th overall
    Cam – 1st
    Kaep – 36th
    Luck – 1st
    Brees – 32nd
    Manning – 1st
    Brady – outlier, 160ish
    Wilson – 75th
    .
Last year’s playoff included Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, and Big Ben – three more 1st round picks.
    .
If you believe a guy is a legit top-5 pick at QB, it would seem that’s more important than taking a top WR and pairing him with some non-elite QB (Texans, Bengals, Cardinals) as far as winning.

  • Zymurge

That’s not true. It’s all about the QB. You should trade all your draft picks in so that you can move up to take the best marginal QB available in the draft. It’s not like you need the other picks, because you can plug any clowns in on defense or the rest of the offense, because the QB is the only one that matters.

  • Veldiman

Could be a reason why Al treated Mark so badly…Red-headed step child…

  • NYCRaider

I think his chest got in the way and he couldnt see the game

  • prometheus

    haha you sound like alex7

  • Morilla_00

    4 out of 8. Hrmph.
