Allen, Davis don’t meet Tuesday, further evidence that Allen is staying surfaces

ALAMEDA — The planned meeting between Raiders owner Mark Davis and coach Dennis Allen didn’t happen Tuesday, with Allen calling it a day at 5:30 p.m.
On his way out of the facility, Allen stopped his car, rolled down his window and said to three media members, “I got nothing for you.”
When asked if he met with Davis, Allen said: “Again, I don’t have anything for you.”
Two people familiar with the situation said the two didn’t meet Tuesday, at least not at the team’s facility. In fact, Davis hadn’t been spotted at team headquarters at any time before Allen departed.
Davis did not answer numerous phone calls, and he didn’t respond to a voicemail.
Allen and Davis said they planned to meet soon after the season ended to discuss Allen’s future. However, neither issued a firm date.
Allen said several times since the season ended that he expects to be back as the Raiders coach next season. He just finished the second season of a four-year contract he signed in 2012.
The two people familiar with the situation agreed that Allen likely will be back. They also said that the issue of the assistant coaches is in the process of playing out.
Six or seven assistants just signed one-year extensions before their contracts expired. Several that resisted at first were told to accept the one-year extensions or seek employment elsewhere.
A report last week said Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie wanted extensions for all their assistant coaches so that they were under contract for two years, but Davis refused.
As of now, none of the assistant coaches whose contracts were about to run out or had only one year left resigned.
The fact that numerous assistant coaches now are under contract provides further evidence that Allen will be back for the 2014 season, given the difficulty finding a new coach willing to accept a staff not of his choosing.
In other news, scout Larry Marmie resigned from the Raiders and accepted a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If RM is really serious about getting top tier talent in here at FA he has no choice but to dramatically overpay somebody especially if he doesn’t sign Houston, who he will also have to dramatically overpay. The secret is to not insanely overpay (Wimbley contract, Palmer trade.)

Reggie is absolutely a Dollar Store kind of shopper. Probalby buys his 2014 Christmas decorations the day after Christmas 2013, too

I was out on Flynn as a long term option once his elbow proved to be a long term issue. And a long term option is really what I want.

  • RediaR

    What I really really want.

  • Howard Benner

Other than cash, & the Raiders current braintrust doesn’t spend this way, why would these guys opt to play in Oakland in the first place?

  • 24

I was out after the pre-season. Then I wanted to see what he had during week 3…that was enough for me and then he was cut.

  • Stabler

Clowns across the country are deeply offended by that comparison.

    So you’re saying he’s a Jew…

On the roa. . .Perhaps you mistyped, but did you see the game? Chefs in white unis. . .end zones painted blue. . .Domed stadium. . .

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Raiders need to start taking a few chances with free agents.
Need to sign more two-three year contracts, less single year deals.

  • W.J

I thought that was order of preference. No way we get all 5. Lucky to get even one.

  • 24

But they were all Raiders fans as a kid…=P

  • JB

Was intended as a list of preference.

  • RediaR

If you wanna be my GM, you gotta get me a quarterback. Protect his as$ forever, and a defense that wont collapse.

  • Stabler

Maybe we sign ZERO FA’s. The roster is filled with draftees and UDFA’s everywhere.

  • 24

And a coach who won’t play prevent so easily.

  • funnyfalcon

Never thought Dalton or Smith were solid. The moment you put the game into either of those guy’s hands, your team is setup for failure. Foles I haven’t seen enough of to have an opinion.

Just spoke with #Raiders owner #MarkDavis, & he confirms that #DennisAllen remains coach going forward. Story soon at http://espn.go.com/blog/oakland-raiders

    1 Clowney
    2 Bridgewater
    3 Watkins
    4 Robinson
    5 Ealy

And then Hue said “a first round pick for a guy on his couch? Is there any way I can add a conditional first that will be at least a second rounder to that deal? I wouldn’t want to underpay!”

  • Howard Benner

They offered one year deals the past two years because they could only entice “question mark” candidates; guys that were coming off injuries, problems with schemes @ their previous stops, etc. . .

Supposedly with 60+ mil @ their disposal they can be more selective; attract a higher level of player. . .that is, if the (mis) management doesn’t burn down the site before the cavalry arrives. . .

  • RediaR

Kinda going for both 4-3 and 3-4 there.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Robinson, OT, Auburn has moved up in all the prospect rankings, top 5 in some of them.

One thing that is overlooked that would be a great way to spend some of this money is to solidify some depth. We certainly need those top tier guys, but depth is very valuable as well.

The one position, if more than adequately manned would push the Raiders towards respectability is a speed rusher. ‘Bridge will be the #1 overall choice, whether by Houston or whomever opts to relinquish a king’s ransom for the aforementioned #1 overall choice. . .’Bridge is pretty much plug & play; then Bortles will go #2 overall to whomever the Lambs can trade with. So, let’s say Houston stays @ #1 & selects ‘Bridge, Cleveland trades with St. Louis for the #2 & picks Bortles. Then the Jags go for Johnny Football. Jags could leapfrog the Lambs as Bortles would no doubt entice butts in the seats in Jacksonville. Then the Lambs will pick either Robinson or Jake Matthews as Jake Long is coming off ACL surgery. . .that leaves either Robinson, Matthews or “The Clown” @ #5 for the Raiders. . .regardless of what anyone thinks of “The Clown” tanking his senior season so as to go into his pro career unscathed. . .

  • Howard Benner

    Paul Giamatti?!

  • JB

I think were OK at S and LB. We need DE x 2 and at least 1 DT.. I also think Manziel is gone when our turn comes – same for Clowney. I like the Watkins pick though.

  • Howard Benner

No glass is half full or half empty; there IS no glass after all. . .

I wish we still had him too. With an O-line and good receivers he could be the answer.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

What the heII is wrong with that?

And then they all grew up. . .& hired agents. . .

Oakland is the new Philadelphia. . .Now, who is the new W.C. Fields?

  • Kevin Davis

I agree that our long term key to success is going to be through the draft , not free agency.

  • Howard Benner

First off, learn to write in complete sentences. You mean to say the other 31 teams don’t have the available cash @ hand such as the Raiders.

Then, clarify this is your list of preference. You merely prefaced your list with “our (are you a player or an owner?!) first FA acquisition should be. . .

You also could have said “our first FA acquisition should be one of the following. . .

Still, I don’t think your first four selections will seriously consider Oakland as a FA destination. Mack lived & schooled in the Bay Area. He played for a dysfunctional team. Why would he want to further his nightmare?

  • Howard Benner

List your prospective first round picks. “The Clown” will be the for the taking. . .

    1. ‘Bridge
    2. Bortles.
    3. Johnny Football
    4.Matthews (or Robinson)
    5. ????? (‘The Clown”)

    Like that. . .
