Davis meets with Allen, says Allen’s status as head coach never in question

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, January 7th, 2014 at 11:18 pm in Oakland Raiders.

ALAMEDA — Raiders owner Mark Davis and coach Dennis Allen finally had their face-to-face meeting Tuesday night. A short time later, Davis said Allen is going to remain as the Raiders coach for 2014.
“It’s been that way ever since he signed a four-year contract to be the head coach of the Oakland Raiders,” Davis said, by phone, of Allen’s status being secure.
When asked if there was any uncertainty moving forward, Davis said: “No. There hasn’t been a question about it, either.”
The meeting took place Tuesday night, a few hours after Allen told a public relations member at 5:30 p.m. that he was headed home for the night.
On his way out, Allen stopped his car, rolled down his window and said to three media members, “I got nothing for you.”
When asked if he met with Davis, Allen said: “Again, I don’t have anything for you.”
By night’s end, it was Davis doing all the talking. He said the call on Allen’s job ultimately rests with general manager Reggie McKenzie, who hired Allen away from the Denver Broncos in 2012.
Davis said he expects to meet with Allen again Wednesday, along with McKenzie.
At that point, “We’ll talk a little bit about free agency and all that stuff and just start putting together next season’s plan.”
Davis said he and Allen covered a lot of ground Tuesday night in a meeting that lasted about two hours.
“Dennis and I had a great meeting,” Davis said. “We talked about last season, recapped it. We talked about the process going forward, (talked) about some of the personnel, the coaching situation, all of those things.”
Allen said several times since the season ended that he expected to be back as the Raiders coach next season. He just finished the second season of a four-year contract he signed in 2012.
Still, there remained uncertainty until Allen met with Davis and made sure they were on the same page.
One of the main issues was Allen’s staff. Allen and McKenzie wanted the assistants working on two-year contracts. Davis refused.
Several assistants that balked at the hard-line stance were told to take the one-year extensions or seek employment elsewhere.
By Tuesday, six or seven assistants had signed extensions through next season.
As of now, none of the assistant coaches whose contracts were about to run out or had only one year left resigned.
In other news, scout Larry Marmie resigned from the Raiders and accepted a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

You must watch a lot of soap operas.

  • R8erEduc8er

    Bingo!

  • Twinkle

You sure about that ? This time of year that sucker takes on truckloads of new riders.Beginning of the season though you can sit anywhere you want.

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

    LoL

Housewives have a simpleton’s understanding of the game. They like to have one person to hang wins and losses on.

And it’s the qb. Like all cheerleaders, they desire the poster boy.

They also love drama and secret goings-on. They love soaps and reality shows. They love the idea that things aren’t really as they seem and they can figure it out.

Sound familiar? We have many housewives here.

  • R8erEduc8er

Wish we had that luxury but we don’t. We drafted Watson in the 2nd last year to be our RT. Can’t use another high pick on RT. First rounder needs to be a play maker on offense or defense. I vote for Clowney or Watkins.

  • 2romes

But again it is speculation. Some guys here expected an immediate turn around with this head coach and GM. Their speculation was wrong! Now, I see the same guys singing a different tune. I don’t have the luxury to see how Hue would have done but I do have the luxury to see how wrong those guys were.

  • Christian W

Tre mason going to enter the draft. He would be a good pick for us as a rb.

  • SR Raider

Boyd is a possibility if other things take place. More likely to be taken in the 3rd imo

  • 2romes

What single word do you use for 4-12?

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

Now that the Pryor Brigade has mostly dissipated along with the Pryor Charade, I think I will start referring to those who talk qb wins and losses as “The Real Housewives”(c) or “The Desperate Housewives” (c).

    Thoughts?

  • NYCRaider

Did the packers improve when Aaron Rodgers replaced Matt Flynn? Or when the broncos let Tebow go and brought in Manning. Your so strange because 90% of your posts during the season were about Flynn or Pryor? Are you a housewife, bc you were obsessed with our QB situation

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

George Atkinson III will be our RB in the 5th.

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

will he be there in the 4th? if not, don’t bother listing RB’s please … Jennings, Reece, Murray & Stewart can handle the load. Maybe even sprinkle in a little TJones!

  • W.J

Here we go again, with the “Who Me?”
I’ve said repeatedly on here Pryor was awful. But by any objective measure so was McGloin and Flynn. Your undying support of Flynn and McGloin while also ridiculing and denigrating the accomplishments of Pryor exposes your true colors especially in light of your housewife retorts.

What ticks you off you is that Mistic was right. Just about every QB in the playoffs is a dual threat QB, just about every one HAD to use their legs to not only win but to stay in the game, and just about every team has instituted the read option and pistol.

I’m not here to be a spokes person for Pryor or Mistic but both seem to occupy an inordinate amount of your time and ire.

  • Twinkle

Wakey wakey it’s the NFL remember.
Show me a HC or especially a GM that has no scars from multiple stab wounds to his back and I’ll show you the non profit he was running for the church.

  • W.J

    So clever.

  • Christian W

I’m not really sold on Jennings or Stewart tbh…

  • TrevJo

Why aren’t you sold on Jennings?

  • FourMoreYears

I would love to get Tre, but someone will jump early for him.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

A better qb will improve a team. Duh.

Palmers stats this year and last PROVE the fallacy of a qb “winning” and “losing” games.

Read the post. A “Real Housewife” (c) thinks qbs win and lose games.

    I talk production.

  • Twinkle

We enjoy the misery generated by organizations that are in worse shape than us of course.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

If Clowney, Watkins, Bridgewater, Bortles are all drafted 1 2 3 4 in some order, we trade back with Minnesota who’ll take their Tark2.0

then draft Robinson, OT, Auburn at #8.

    Vehldeer Wisneiwski Mack Watson Robinson

move the quickness of Watson to RG.

We know Vehldeer is a top ten LT, should Watson or Robinson prove to be a top 5 LT, then we move Vehldeer to the right side.

  • W.J

Look clown, if I want your opinion I’ll go ask the swanky doctor.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

He just might go late first, Raiders get the quarterback in the first, could see us drafting Tre in the 2nd, especially if all the top WRs go in the first.

  • NYCRaider

So if Matt Flynn starts against the Bears , the Packers win that game? Or maybe Stats dont fully indicate a QBs success?

  • Twinkle

Snyder’s GM is out getting armor plating put in the back of his suit jackets or is Snyder too cheap to hire a GM……sure looks like he runs the team himself.

  • R8erEduc8er

I don’t think they pull the trigger on another RT that high…maybe in 2015. This team sorely lacks play makers on both sides of the ball. If we don’t get Clowney or Watkins, I’m gonna take my ball and go home.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Right around the 5th is where I’d like us to draft QB Mathews from Cornell to compete with whoever we get in Round 1 or 2.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

U argue a lot like MR. All over the place and the inability to be honest.

I never said anything close to “who me?” That doesn’t make sense.

McG and Flynn had better passing production than Pryor. It’s FACT.

Who said I had undying support of Flynn or McG? I said Flynn was better than Pryor. He is. U make a lot of assumptions and flat out lie.

My housewife comments relate to my views in Pryor how? Make some sense would u?

Lol. The playoffs are chock full of dual threats?

Peyton and Brady and Brees? Rivers? Luck? Gimme a break. The read option is fading quickly. And I have no issue with newton, kaep, or Wilson. Good passers.

    Ur clearly a liar.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

Rodgers is a better qb than Flynn. Stats prove it.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Jennings is a free agent, he may not want to play here next season,

    New York, both
    Jax
    Miami
    Cleveland
    Indy
    Atlanta
    New Orleans
    Detroit
    Dallas
    Philadelphia
    Minnesota

will all be in play for Jennings’ services either as a starter, backup, or power back for goal line and 3rd down plays.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

That dude is likely to be a UDFA.

  • RaidingTexas

Much bigger needs. The offensive line blocked well when it had McGloin out there. The overwhelming majority of sacks this season came from the Flynn and Pryor starts. That speaks for itself.
Skill positions and defensive line, please.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

6th, unless we trade down or up.

  • Twinkle

The D was exposed early by Manning so the whole league knew how to beat us.Coaching is irrelevant till some talent arrives to coach.Allen is an on the job trainee. If Reggie can fall over some talent some how this year then DA will need to sh*t or get off the pot and quick…..til then he’s cheap.

  • NYCRaider

which translates into wins and losses

  • Christian W

BC I think he one trick rb ..he did OK for us but he really isn’t that good …he six at Jacksonville when he was there…I see how he dies this year to make up my mind of him…but I still think there better. Rbs out there !

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Fair enough. Take him in the 7th, then.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

Not directly. It takes a team.

Palmer put up better stats last year. He’s the SAME qb.

And he win 10 this year. How do u not see the problem here?

  • RaidingTexas

Agree. Ivy Leaguers are smart guys. But QBs from those low-tier conferences like AAC, MWC and Ivy should be UDFAs. Use draft picks on players who routinely had real competition in college.

  • PlunkforHOF

There is only ONE NATION. How dare you call yourself a Raider fan

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

I’m not against him being here.

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

Jennings, Houston, Sims & Woodson already said they want to be back in Oakland next year. Wiz is the guy who said “well, i’m under contract and then after that we’ll see” and Pryor said he didn’t know if he would be back for 2014, said it’s up to Reggie & Dennis.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

He had a down year last year. Before that, he was good.

  • W.J

Do your really want to persist in getting your butt kicked? Ok
1.I’m perfectly honest. I stick to the point. It’s you with your “housewife” tendencies who say QB’s don’t matter in winning and yet pine for a limp armed wanna be.
    3. It is also totally housewifey that you would think a positive NFL record means nothing and is something to be denigrated.
    3. It makes sense. I’m sure there are people who get it including you.
    4. I’ll counter with Pryor produced more offensive yardage and the team won more with him as QB. That’s a fact.
    5. The very fact that we won more with TP than with McGloin or Flynn actually supports your famous housewife retort yet here you are arguing against it because …well .. you’re stupid.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

There at least ten qbs that will be drafted and a few more on the cusp. It’s likely a UDFA qb that’s pretty good will be available.

  • RaidingTexas

And really I should have said “Flynn and Pryor DEBACLES”

  • NYCRaider

LOL , exactly my point. QB stats can sometimes be misleading. Palmer last year amassed alot of his stats when the raiders were losing, This year while his stats werent as good , he was a big reason why the cardinals won games!!Palmers stats werent amazing but I believe he was considered by his coach the mvp of the team?Imagine that a QB mvp!! that hardly ever happens except when housewives get together and vote

  • rifflicks

they could all end up going to the highest bidders
