April official; Raiders list 14 returning coaches

The Raiders made the return of special teams coordinator Bobby April official Friday and released a list 14 assistant coaches that will be back in 2014.

General manager Reggie McKenzie said Thursday the club was finalizing an agreement with April.

Other than April, the Raiders coach staff under Dennis Allen will include quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore, strength and conditioning coach John Greico, offensive quality control coach Justin Griffith, tight ends coach Mark Hutson, offensive coordinator Greg Olson, linebackers coach Bob Sanders, defensive quality control coach Eric Sanders, senior offensive assistant Al Saunders, running backs coach Kelly Skipper, offensive line coach/assistant head coach Tony Sparano, defensive coordinator Jason Tarver and defensive line coach Terrell Williams.

The Raiders are in the market for coaches in the defensive secondary, as Clayton Lopez and Johnnie Lynn are no longer on staff, nor is special teams assistant Keith Burns.

The same for Forsyth’s “the Day of the Jackal.” I read the book in junior high school & was completely amazed. Even Cowgirls Get the Blues was made into a movie but there is no way a two hour movie can capture all the nuances or narrative that encapsulate a great book. . .Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, one of my favorite satirical movies just couldn’t match the book despite some of the best symbolism I’ve seen onn the screen. . .

  • Rico Stifler

    I read Tailor of Panama.

The other book was A Perfect Spy.

  • Howard Benner

Ah. . .have you seen “the Tailor of Panama?” Pierce Brosnan & Geoffrey Rush are fantastic. Rush is a gifted actor. . .

  • Rico Stifler

    Have not seen it.

  • Howard Benner

It is an older movie (although anything created in the millennium can’t be that old), first hitting the screen in 2001. . .try Netflicks. . .

  • Rico Stifler

    I’ll look for it.
Speaking of netflix, I am off to watch some more of it now….

  • Howard Benner

    Enjoy.. . I’m watching “Iron Man !!!. . .”

Ironic that he combines his background with an affinity for art & contemporary events to spin some of the most creative thoughts I’ve ever read. I first was indoctrinated to him when in college, thus I was able to read him chronologically. . .he is the father of the complex sentence. he is random & articulate @ the same time. . .while smoking a joint with you in a public place. . .I thought I was with a poetic deity. . .yet because his writing thought process is so structured & comparmentalized he had no concept of screenwriting. So the writer who helped him create the screenplay for “Cowgirls” went on to write a book called “screewnwriting for dummies. . .” he hangs out wirh Debra Winger a lot. . .interesting relationship that heads me to a “bohemian lifestyle” conclusion. . .where can I sign up?!

Big day. Big big day. Heading over to a 5am breakfast party the to a buddies pad on the beach with a 80″ flat screen set up out doors. The bash is going to be complete with enough food to feed a small army. I’m talkin smoked pig, chicken cooked every way u can imagine and about 400 pounds of ribs. Condiments so many can even describe it. Been up all night getting things set up. Expect about 125 people. Might even post some pics if I’m awake by half time of the first game. Got surround sound speakers set up so the noise will be virtual stadium. My friend who’s putting in on is a wall street financier. I just work in the mail room but I’ve given him more cr@p about his garbage jets he’s takin a likin to me and I hang with his circle. And he’s got top flight babes on his team too. I think the dude is spending about 25 G’s on this bash. Three hot tubs were brought in. This is the craziest f-king thing I’ve ever seen. Five of us lackeys been settin this thing up. 3 bars, a bbq pit the size of a big box pick up truck. Even has a card room. My buddy just said he thinks he’s dropped 40 g’s in this bash. Even has a band lined up. All this just so we can enjoy Brady and the Pats ripping the broncos skrōttumn right off their hinges. Then we get to watch Wilson rip the niners man hole in half. Wait til I tell ya bout the super bowl plans.

It’s a few years old, but if you want a pretty fascinating read, tackle Gene Simmons’ autobiographical account of the formation of the band KISS – the book is called “Kiss And Make-up”. Like him or not, Simmons is a pioneer – a true merchandising genius and was always a babe magnet – it was either the make-up or the long tongue. I think the rest of the band was just along for the ride.

  • RediaR

The hell happened in here last night? A calm discussion about literature?

  • plunkhead

Did anyone mention one of my favorites?
Its known all over the world as the big book.

  • plunkhead

Game day fellas, get your pom poms out.
I put mine away. I can root for the hawks (just a little bit) but that first game has nothing at all going for either team

  • plunkhead

I actually have three favorite books. The afore mentioned big book, science fiction, (fantasy sucks) and the greatest book written, the monarch of books , the mighty KJB

  • plunkhead

I suspect mile low city will be a very unhappy place to be tonight after bellthecheat and giseles husband show them how to play playoff football

  • Raiderfusion

The only movie that I’ve ever seen that came close to the book, and that was Papillon.

  • Raiderfusion

Try Boston Legal, too funny for words. A few years ago I was in an accident , and I watched all the episodes, great fun. A few yearsd ago the was a sit-com called working with Fred Savage where the 1st year or 2 it was very good, than they added new characters and it lost it’s spark a little. If you like comedy they were fun. I don’t have Netflix, but if you can find the Good Doctor, it’s a set of plays by Anton Checkov put on the screen by Neil Simon. Really well done.

  • Raiderfusion

Pretender was a really well done show. I would agree. The last 2 or 3 years have really enjoyed Suits on the USA Network.

  • Dakota

    Hope so. Badly.

  • 0ak R8rs

Just read an article/blog about our 2012 draft, slamming it. And I agree 100%. It sucked. Crawford and Bilokidi were project picks that didn’t work out, as usual. And Stupar instead of Burfict (they play the same position). I know we didn’t drsft till 99th. But one or two productive depth players would have been nice. As it is, the only two players that r basically left r Bergs and Burris, and they aren’t looking good. Criner and Crawford already have 1.85 feet out the door.

  • rifflicks

Blame Reggie for AD’s Scouts in 2012..

  • Chino

Burfict wouldn’t have been the sme player here. You gotta credit mike Zimmer for some of his success

  • Chino

Disgusting. You guys actually rooting for the pats.

  • Chino

    That’s not literature.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

How so? Flowers for Algernon/Charlie was close. Never read Papillion.

  • plunkhead

Most of us will not be rooting for any of the teams.
    You will be wearing orange?

  • 0ak R8rs

He’s in charge. He makes the final decision. It’s on him.

  • 0ak R8rs

I don’t buy that for a second. Burfict was a beast in college. It was only his off field issues that dropped him out of the first round. To not take a flyer on him in the 7th and pick a bum that plays the same position instead is inexcusable. I’m not a hindsight guy when it comes to drafts. You can only judge a draft on what you got. But we got was sht. Not getting Burfict made it super sht.

  • willy91137

The patriots must beat the Broncos the patriots didn’t do anything to us it was the referees that made that call Denver is in our division I don’t want them to get into the big game

  • 0ak R8rs

As far as I’m concerned, only a moron Raider fan could root for the Donks. Pats didn’t do anythg to us. We did to ourselves by not converting that 4th down, then the refs did it to us later. Patriots were just there.

It’s personally preference. Idc who you root for, stay out of my preferences.

  • willy91137

You surely can’t be rooting for the Broncos have you got yourPeyton Manning jersey on

  • Chino

Fine, but Brady still needs to go down

  • willy91137

why does he have to go down

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

And if we hadn’t gone 2-4 down the stretch we’d of been playing that game at home not Foxboro.

  • Chino

Idk he grew up around the bay rooting for the 9ers. He’s beaten our azz for the last decade. And he does Uug commercials

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    War and Peace?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    We supersized?

  • Chino

I’m not rooting for either team. Just hit a nerve seeing a bunch of raiders fans rooting for Brady.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I kind of like him and can’t really fault anyone for admiring Walsh/Montana/Rice. I resent all football success not associated with the Silver and Black, but there is this thing called reality that I keep bumping into.

  • Nosferatu Man

I loved how psychedelic Charly got at times. Very strange. Great adaptation though.

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

I’m not rooting for Brady. Rooting against Denver

  • The_Civilian_James_Trapp

True, but the Patriots have been one of the NFL’s boys. Let’s not forget that Goodel destroyed the videotapes during Spygate. No solid reason to do that.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Who do want to win? If you’re constitutionally unable to answer that question, I’ll re phrase it. Who do you want to lose?

  • J Hill

Sifting through the GM speak ….

Don’t think we will be drafting a QB in rd 1. We don’t have the weapons to surround him and I can’t see our 1st rd pick riding the bench for the first year.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade down.

  • tuckrulefool

    Dear DA/RM apologists,

    In 2014 (not talking about ’12 or’13)…..

THERE CAN BE NO EXCUSES FROM THIS STAFF FOR CONTINUED UNABTAED LOSING (or from their apologists who populate this board)…..

In 2014 you GET your MASSIVE CAP SPACE..

In 2014 you GET a full set of pics…

In 2014 you already HAVE all of your staff back…

NO APOLOGISTS for DA/RM in 2014…
(including any lame ‘tough schedule’ defeat-isms)

OAK either goes 8-8 or better or BOTH RM/DA pack it up in January 2015.

100% PUT UP or SHUT up time..

Thumbs UP if you agree –

Thumbs DOWN if you disagree -

  • willy91137

Josh McCown is the only quarterback I would take in free agency I thank he showed when he played when he Bears that he can play that he can play the position of quarterback he’s been in the league for five or six years so he has plenty of experience

  • tuckrulefool

    Seattle…(in 2 weeks)…

  • Chino

I’m rooting against Denver. Ill leave it at that.

  • Chino

That’s what I took from it. Plenty of qb prospects after the first round, reg might take one with our second or third pick.
