With Rashad Jennings and Darren McFadden scheduled to hit free agency, the Raiders worked out Canadian Football League running back Kory Sheets Tuesday, according to several reports.
Sheets, 5-foot-11, 208 pounds, was the Most Valuable Player in the Grey Cup for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, gaining 197 yards on 20 carries in a win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Undrafted out of Purdue after gaining 1,131 yards as a senior, Sheets spent time in camps with the 49ers, Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers without sticking. Sheets gained 1,277 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry in 18 games with Saskatchewan in 2012 and 1,598 yards in 15 games in 2013.
The Raiders have exclusive negotiating rights with their own free agents until March 8. Coach Reggie McKenzie said he is attempting to bring back Jennings, but expects McFadden to test the free agent market.
— Quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo is scheduled to interview with the Cleveland Browns for their opening at offensive coordinator under new coach Mike Pettine.
DeFilippo was re-signed by the Raiders, reportedly to a one-year contract, and can only interview with another team if given permission by the club. He was a finalist this past offseason for the head coaching job at James Madison University.
