QB Bridgewater meets with McKenzie, Davis at combine

Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater is considered by some as the best prospect among a deep class of quarterbacks in this year’s NFL draft. The Raiders just might feel the same way, given they interviewed Bridgewater at the NFL scouting combine.
Bridgewater said Saturday during an interview session with media at the scouting combine in Indianapolis that he feels as if Raiders owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie liked him based on their meeting.
The Raiders finished the season with two inexperienced quarterbacks on their roster – third-year player Terrelle Pryor and undrafted rookie Matt McGloin. They since have signed veteran Trent Edwards.
Even so, McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen admit that the Raiders are far from set at quarterback.
“That’s one of the things we’ve got to ultimately determine,” Allen said during his media session in Indianapolis on Thursday. “That’s a position that we’re going to look at very closely.
“We’ve got two young quarterbacks that have potential. Hopefully they can develop and reach that next step, but that’s obviously a position that we’ve got to look at.”
Hence, the Raiders already met with Bridgewater and likely will meet with several more, if not all, of the top quarterback prospects before the combine ends next week.
That list includes Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel, Fresno State’s Derek Carr, Central Florida’s Blake Bortles and Eastern Illinois’ Jimmy Garoppolo.
The Raiders own the rights to the No. 5 pick in the NFL draft in May. They are assured of having a shot at one of the aforementioned quarterbacks.
Bridgewater, Manziel and Bortles are on record as saying they feel as if they are worthy of being taken by the Houston Texans at No. 1.
“Oh, yes, no doubt, I feel that I’m the best quarterback in the draft,” Bridgewater said Saturday.
Allen said he isn’t sure if the Raiders starting quarterback is on his roster right now.
“I don’t know the answer to that yet,” Allen said. “ …The quarterback position is the backbone of your football team, so we have to make sure that when we go out there this year that we’ve put ourselves in the best position to have success with the quarterback position.”

this guy will flash at times but he isn’t the type of guy that we are bringing in….

I really like the way Bortles has handled himself this week…

  • Gdog

Hell, a third if he doesn’t pick a QB before then…

  • JV.

I don’t like how he is under pressure and his pocket pressence isn’t that great.. Most guys climb and move around with their feet, Carr almost runs when he steps up.

  • Dakota

They have mounted police stationed every mile on the trails with abacuses….nail you every time.

  • JOn Wooah

Reggie did. and they have had two meetings already. I dont care because were not drafting. Reggie is. its impressive to be that kind of athlete

  • kenchun24

Yeah …what was it Mayock said 700 pass attempts were 1 to 4 yard bubble screens for Carr lol

  • Gdog

I’d DIE for a 30 inch vertical right now.

#Stanford RB Tyler Gaffney said he has been working on his speed and it showed — unofficial 4.43. Good draft sleeper #NFLcombine

Hard to challenge abaci in court.

Then Reggie needs to be fired before the draft.

Savage has a gun, according to Gil Brandt.

this is an extremely heavy group of running backs

  • kenchun24

The other FSU RB James Wilder reminds me of the “Longneck” Harvey Williams not to be confused with the other “Longneck” Merton Hanks.

Mayock also said he has one good game tape and about 20 bad ones. Buyer beware. Late round flier.

  • Dakota

Didn’t Mayock say for every two good games Logan Thomas has on tape there are 20 bad games?

  • Howard Benner

Well, Reg isn’t going to spend the mother lode entirely this year. He doesn’t want to burn all this year’s cap ca$h & leave the Raiders in the lurch next year.

The thing about picking a QB in the top 10 is you pretty much have to play them 12 games @ least as a rookie. I think they need a vet to be a mentor. I like Mccown but the Jets seem to be making a power play in that direction. . .

Cleveland has as much as said they consider resigning Alex Mack their top priority. I expect Jared Allen to sign with a team that will compete for the SB. The latest in Michael Johnson has him following Zimmer to Minnesota, but I don’t think he would provide the answer. After reading some accounts of the Chefs FA guards I’ve began to sour on them. Sam Shields will probably resign in Green Bay, Raji doesn’t fit the Raiders “d,” Verner will probably go to the highest bidder.

My point is likely candidates are starting to dissipate. Buffalo willl probably franchise Byrd again, as he is too valuable to lose with nothing in return. Kraken might be an option. the Oregon Eagles have said Macklin is prioritized higher than Cooper. I don’t like Hakeen Nicks.. too many injury problems. Decker isn’t a #1 WR. Signing him would be a waste of precious resources. I keep having Javon Walker flashbacks. . .Paul Soliai of the ‘Fins? They need a pass rusher, another DT, a cover or press corner (or both in one?!), a guard (Matt McCants moving inside?), another WR, a safety, resign Hulk & hopefully Houston & Porter. . .man. . .what a mess. . .not to be skeptical, but I’m skeptical. . .

  • Howard Benner

Brett Hundley & my dark horse candidate, Devin Gardner of Michigan. . .

  • JV.

    GA3 with a 4.39…

  • Blackholepriest

Hell of a time by Atkinson Jr.

  • Dakota

Fawq Mark, ignore Atkinson….that is his boy! “With the #5 pick in the draft, the Oakland Raiders select George Atkinson the third!”

  • Howard Benner

Yup. . .& a team that takes him on a s a reclimation prospect probably won’t spend anything higher than a fifth or sixth round pick. . .if that. . .

  • Chino

    Hell yeah!! RAIDERRRRRS!!!

  • Dakota

    No thanks.

  • JV.

Nah… Hes a middle to late 1st rounder according to the media… If he drops to the second round for some reason… You already know.

  • Blackholepriest

Logan Thomas is not draftable IMO. UDFA practice squad developmental guy.

  • marks hair

George looks proud.. 4.39 mark, whats up?

  • Howard Benner

Don’t forget Brett Hundley. My dark horse candidate, nextyear’s Blake Bortles is Devin Gardner of Michigan. Surely they will have to revert to “Al” form & trade up for any of those candidates. . .

I think it was the FSU coach that said Winston might stay through 2015. . .

  • Dakota

Charlie Casserly must have a little bit of Parkinson’s disease….hasn’t gotten one 40 time right all day from what I have seen.

  • Howard Benner

Unofficial. . .official time adds about half a second. . .

  • kenchun24

    lol

  • Howard Benner

I like Savage as well. . .he probably will be available throught @ least the fifth round. . .he was great against ND. . .had three other stellar games in 2013. . .killed Duke, was great against North Carolina. . .& Miami. . .21 TD’s, nine picks. . .over 60% completion.

  • kenchun24

Atkinson just helped his draft stock no doubt…very similar to the RB Knile Davis combine time from last year and the Chefs took him in the 2nd or 3rd I think?

  • Blackholepriest

He has some possible star quality. Big kid very athletic. Wasted at ND IMO.

  • Dakota

Killed Duke and North Carolina? That would be great if he played basketball.

  • Howard Benner

If the Raiders need a pinch runner. . .

  • kenchun24

He’d be a pretty good UDFA pick up to develop for some team.
