QB Bridgewater meets with McKenzie, Davis at combine

Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater is considered by some as the best prospect among a deep class of quarterbacks in this year’s NFL draft. The Raiders just might feel the same way, given they interviewed Bridgewater at the NFL scouting combine.
Bridgewater said Saturday during an interview session with media at the scouting combine in Indianapolis that he feels as if Raiders owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie liked him based on their meeting.
The Raiders finished the season with two inexperienced quarterbacks on their roster – third-year player Terrelle Pryor and undrafted rookie Matt McGloin. They since have signed veteran Trent Edwards.
Even so, McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen admit that the Raiders are far from set at quarterback.
“That’s one of the things we’ve got to ultimately determine,” Allen said during his media session in Indianapolis on Thursday. “That’s a position that we’re going to look at very closely.
“We’ve got two young quarterbacks that have potential. Hopefully they can develop and reach that next step, but that’s obviously a position that we’ve got to look at.”
Hence, the Raiders already met with Bridgewater and likely will meet with several more, if not all, of the top quarterback prospects before the combine ends next week.
That list includes Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel, Fresno State’s Derek Carr, Central Florida’s Blake Bortles and Eastern Illinois’ Jimmy Garoppolo.
The Raiders own the rights to the No. 5 pick in the NFL draft in May. They are assured of having a shot at one of the aforementioned quarterbacks.
Bridgewater, Manziel and Bortles are on record as saying they feel as if they are worthy of being taken by the Houston Texans at No. 1.
“Oh, yes, no doubt, I feel that I’m the best quarterback in the draft,” Bridgewater said Saturday.
Allen said he isn’t sure if the Raiders starting quarterback is on his roster right now.
“I don’t know the answer to that yet,” Allen said. “ …The quarterback position is the backbone of your football team, so we have to make sure that when we go out there this year that we’ve put ourselves in the best position to have success with the quarterback position.”

So Clowney puts up a measly 21 reps on the bench!?!
Mario Williams put up 35 reps when he came out as #1.

Just one more sign that this guys has a less than desirable work ethic and attitude towards getting better….

He was a lock to go #1, all he had to do was get at least half his production from 2012, workout and put up respectable numbers and say the right things…oh yeah and stay out of trouble……he was unable to do any of those……

  • Dakota

Yikes….I think a punter put up 24 reps.

  • Howard Benner

Potentially. . .Not assured. Mayock called him “broken,” like a bad jump shot. . .

  • Howard Benner

    Or folds like a pup tent. . .Marc Wilson 2.0. . .

  • kenchun24

He did! Forgot what school/name though but I saw that punter press them weights.

  • Howard Benner

    4.64 I believe. . .or 4.56. . .

  • kuhlest

    The punter from Miami

  • Dakota

Fix the defense in free agency, and then draft:
    1 Watkins
    2 Tre Mason
    3 Aaron Murray
    Just score baby!

  • Howard Benner

Spurrier can get away with that. Players will follow him no matter where he coaches. . .in college. . .

  • Blackholepriest

Gaffney is a player and someone is going to get a great feature back with him.

  • kenchun24

Yeah he’s tough to bring down no doubt and has quick feet for his size.

  • Howard Benner

maycock floated the idea that “the Clown” might slide him out of the top five. . .

  • kenchun24

I wonder how far Murray will drop pending his health.

  • Howard Benner

Well, when you play in the ACC. . .the ND win was impressive. . .I’ve liked Savage for a while. . .

  • Dakota

Clowney needs to go to a team with a master motivator as HC……that ain’t us.

  • Blackholepriest

If Tre Mason doesn’t go in the 1st rnd we have issues in this league. This kid can carry a teams offense. I am not sure what the issue is but he is a great player…….period

  • JV.

    I bet their punter doesn’t run a 4.7 tho…

  • Dakota

shhhhhh, let him slip to the top of round 2.

  • JV.

Welp 3 weeks or so until FA…

    We’re ALMOST THERE!!!!!

  • Dakota

    He ran a 4.62 actually.

  • JV.

Brandin cook looks like a better jacoby ford/tavon austin

Many people say he’s a randall cobb clone.

  • JV.

    Dammit Marquette….

  • Dakota

That Taliaferro guy kinda looks like Bo Jackson.

  • Dakota

Thomas really shot out at the beginning.

  • Dakota

Latavius Murray ran a 4.38 40 last year.

  • severeraiderz

My thoughts exactly! Like he could be his son or nephew lol.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Runs upright, though. We can’t hitch our wagon too much to a guy who’s not played a down of NFL football and is coming off an injury. We need rbs in camp, lots.

  • JOn Wooah

Dri Archer and Atkinson 3rd both some of the fasted 40 times. BOTH are KR’s and PR’s as well.

    Get on it reggie.

  • Dakota

McFadden up the middle 95% of the time last year…..will be interesting to see what he does on another team next year.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Nothing new. Spurrier criticized him at least twice during the year.

  • Dakota

Injury, small hands, 6′……I’d love for him to drop into round 4 or 5…..maybe we can trade Pryor for a 5th rounder and get him.

  • DKnight007

I don’t know. Gaffney kinda reminds me of Justin Fargas. Serviceable….but not spectacular…

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Sounds like he’s a momma’s boy and a homie, doesn’t want to stray into the adult’s world of across the country.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

I saw him play on tv a few times. didn’t shine as far as I could see.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

So, good news/bad news for both McGloinoids and Pryorites.
Or maybe Vic doesn’t know squat.

    Vic Tafur
@RickyReturnsLOL Raiders hoping to get a late-round pick on draft day for Pryor@YoungbzPBS @Oklandraida84

    Vic Tafur
No, McGloin will be the backup quarterback next season. #Raiders will draft or sign a starter

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

SEC isn’t known for taking players because they can actually pass a REAL college course or two.
The smarter the kid the more he acts smart and mature.
    This one is not smart.

  • Dakota

    new post

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Then there was Teyo Johnson. Wow, did that kid throw away a career or what?

  • DKnight007

Murray will be there in Round 5.
    1. WR Watkins
    2. RB Mason or Sankey
    3. DE/OLB J Gayle, Trent Murphy,
    4. QB A Murray

  • DKnight007

Exactly! Can’t count on Murray stepping up. Need good competition at RB if DMC isn’t resigned and especially if Jenning isn’t resigned..

  • DKnight007

Weird thing about Manziel is that be brags that he is the “toughest competitor on earth” and all that and wusses out and doesn’t throw at Combine? Ooookaaaay…..

Bortles seems like he might go #1 to Houston. O’Brien likes him…

  • jesusraiderjim

Don’t you mean “especially if Dmac IS signed”? LOL

  • aig-raiders

They were still winning. That 5-11 year was 7 years after they dumped Dilfer. When they dumped a game manager and chased the sexy FC QB in Boller they went into the dumpster. You’re not going to win the SB each yr but that D allowed them to be competitive each year. As a matter of fact that 5-11 year was with Boller starting most of the games (8). they went 13-3 the year before with McNair.

  • aig-raiders

Brad Johnson was not a franchise QB. That is why Minn dumped him. If anything he had a short stint as an above avg qb. That is why Gruden dumped him. Dilfer made the probowl too. Derek Anderson made the probowl too but nobody is going to say these guys were FC qbs.

  • SnBG

i think the time is right for us to grab our QB. Mayock likes Teddy, Johnny,Blake Derek and A.J in that order.

  • aig-raiders

Wow. It’s amzing to me that you guys think the 2012 Ravens were not at least above avg. Haloti Nati, Lewis, Reed, Kruger, and Suggs. If that group is not above avg, I have no frickin clue what qualifies as above avg. I’ll take them in a heart beat for the Raiders with that group.

  • aig-raiders

    1. Was it the NO D that won the game for them? As a matter of fact, they havent sniffed the SB since that D. The offense is still pretty much in tact. It was their D that won those playoff games for them.
    2. NYG – only an idiot would think that the Giants didnt win the last 2 SBs based on the backs of their D.
    3. Ravens – You’re goign to tell me Suggs, Ngati, Lewis, and Kruger are not at least above avg?

  • SnBG

Luck and RG111 didn’t throw at the combine either so I’m not concerned that QBs chose not to do it.

  • Return

Do you really think he will be devastated if he slide all the way down to NE or SF or SEA or even Dallas?

  • Return

Yeah, Manziel is a great example.
