Raiders take close look at Manziel

Former Raiders All-Pro quarterback Rich Gannon calls Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel a “bad fit” for the Raiders. Maybe so, but that hasn’t deterred the Raiders from considering Manziel as their quarterback of the future.
Raiders owner Mark Davis, coaches and front-office workers met with Manziel over the weekend at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, according to Sirius radio.
The Raiders own the rights to the No. 5 pick in the NFL draft in May. It’s conceivable that Manziel will be available when the Raiders make their initial selection.
The Tweet from Sirius said those in attendance at the Raiders meeting with Manziel came away “very impressed.”
Gannon also is impressed by Manziel. He just doesn’t think the Raiders are an ideal fit for Manziel, who succeeds in large part because of his ability to keep plays alive with his feet and improvise when plays break down.
“A team has to be ready for a young quarterback,” Gannon said in Indianapolis. “I don’t think that team is quite ready yet.”
Terrelle Pryor’s skill set resembles Manziel’s in some ways, and Pryor struggled last season in his nine starts.
As of now, Pryor, Matt McGloin and Trent Edwards are the only quarterbacks on the Raiders roster.
Coach Dennis Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie said it’s no secret that the Raiders quarterback situation remains unsettled and that finding a solution is a high priority.
Manziel is regarded by some as the top quarterback prospect in this year’s draft class. Other intriguing candidates include Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater, Central Florida’s Blake Bortles, Fresno State’s Derek Carr and Eastern Illinois’ Jimmy Garappolo.
“I really like him,” Gannon said of Manziel. “ … My biggest concern is the discipline from a quarterback standpoint. Footwork, sitting in the pocket, going through reads and progressions.
“He has to go somewhere where they have a very disciplined coordinator and quarterback coach, somebody who is really going to grind on him and stay on him for those first couple years as he learns the system. He’s a guy who likes to ad lib a lot, and you can’t always do that in the NFL.”
The Raiders also met with Bridgewater at the scouting combine. Bridgewater said he walked away from the meeting confident that the Raiders liked what they heard and learned.

    Miles Burris….really

  • 24

Our QB’s were the main cause for those sacks, not the O-Line.

  • Dakota

    Progress baby!

  • Theghostronin79

It’s maddening at all the injuries….I mean WATSON, HAYDEN, MURRAY, BERGSTROM….Most of his “Top Picks” barely even saw the field. But somehow, they’re all busts because of it.

  • 24

He’s not a bad player dude. I’m not saying he’s the greatest but he was a highlight rookie. Do you hate everything?

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

playing good is all I can ask for?

Not me sorry I expect more.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

With a QB who believed in throwing the ball before The Second Coming (McGloin), our line averaged one sack a game. Nothing wrong with that.

  • 24

Well yes…if you can’t stay on the field, it’s really tough to develop.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

If you cant put on a uniform and play then you do not add any value to the team.

  • william banks

Please stop it with the Pryor stuff your making excuses because you’re just like our Raiders “ALLERGIC TO REALITY.”

  • FourMoreYears

That’s why I say the heck with drafting oline early. An average to decent line is good enough to win.

  • SnBG

Little trouble in Ninerland these days it seems.

  • 24

Sir Raider Duck just made a good point, don’t ignore it. TP was a cause for most of the sacks by running around the backfield like a fool. McGloin proved you can stay in the pocket and make the necessary passes without getting sacked all the time.

  • Theghostronin79

Yeah, it’s tough to develop….But I don’t understand how people relate the injury status to Reggie’s “Eye” for talent…Or lack of

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

NO…your sister is kind of cute I don’t hate her.

These are second tier players that could not crack the roster on another team you should not be satisfied with this crap.

  • FourMoreYears

lol okay. Did you even watch that game?

  • 24

You’re in a bad mood today and it’s one of those moods where you’re not going to like anything anybody says so forget it.

  • DutchRaid

Sorry, I meant we picked DHB got hammered and then the 2nd pick was MM….

  • william banks

WOW this is unbelievable, only our fans will put a BAD Offensive Line off on the QBs when in reality the problem is the Offensive line.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

I guess as long as we are not going backwards people think we are moving forward.

  • SnBG

Time will tell Priest. Be patient.

  • 24

    He obviously didn’t…and he’s talking about reality…OK…

  • FourMoreYears

    3rd and 48. Enough said.

  • 24

Whatever man…go watch the film again.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    That is 100% correct.

  • Dakota

Like I said….offer them Reggie for Baalke straight up….heck, we could even throw in Bergstrom.

  • SnBG

You don’t have to but why so mad.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Not true (virtual hug) I am not happy with Reggie and the job he has done. Period!

  • 24

Why the sister comment? Stick with football.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

it was funny lighten up already dude

  • Dakota

We are like a big family! We can tell each other’s moods….some of you even cycle together, I swear!

  • william banks

what are you going to say when the next QB isn’t good is sackled twelve times in a game. You will probably say it’s the QBs fault.ALLERGIC TO REALITY.

  • 24

No…I’m stooping to your level…now we’re both mad and on the same cycle…THANKS!!!

  • Dakota

    That was a fun day….NOT!

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    Not mad at all.

I will not accept mediocrity seems like everyone here is so easily willing to do so.

  • 24

I don’t normally say this to people but since 666 already got me riled up…You’re a f#kn id10t…

  • Theghostronin79

Huh? Excuses?…..If I can count in my head 1 : 1000, 2 : 1000….and get all the way to 7……and there is a sack for -10 yards, I’m not yelling at the Line after that play.

  • FourMoreYears

rifflicks isn’t here so I’ll do it:

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Damn you 24 I demand that you be happy right now!!

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Where is riff and no you are not his replacement you are no where near angry enough.

  • 24

He obviously chooses frail people…that’s really the biggest concern here…

  • Dakota

Where the hell are the leaked Wonderlic scores? I want to make fun of some athletes.

  • FourMoreYears

    lol true

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    So we are in agreement….

  • william banks

THATS BECAUSE OF AN AWFUL OFFENSIVE LINE RUN BLOCKING WAS ALSO AWFUL.Can’t run the ball at all = bad

  • 24

Sure 666…whatever makes you happy…and my sister of course…

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Its simple math look at the sacks with Pryor as QB then look at the sacks with McGloin at QB.

  • Theghostronin79

    Jennings had success.

  • 24

Again…WRONG…we ran well when it wasn’t McFadden. You don’t even watch the games. You’re not even a Raiders fan. You’re only here to piss people off.

  • http://www.cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

I did nothing you got yourselves riled up over words on a computer screen. I am trying to cheer you up with humor.
