Raiders in a hurry to bolster pass rush

The Raiders are meeting with defensive end Justin Tuck and linebacker LaMarr Woodley on Wednesday as they seek players that can get pressure on the quarterback on a consistent basis.
Coach Dennis Allen and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver are high on players that have the ability to “affect the quarterback.” Tuck and Woodley fit the bill, with the duo combining for 16 sacks last season and 117 1/2 during their NFL careers.
Tuck, who turns 31 in late March, recorded 11 sacks last season, his ninth with the New York Giants. That’s almost twice as many as the six notched by defensive end Lamarr Houston, who bolted the Raiders in free agency Tuesday.
Woodley turns 30 during the 2014 season, which will be his eighth. He spent his first seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Raiders signed offensive linemen Rodger Saffold and Austin Howard and re-signed running back Darren McFadden on Tuesday, the first day of free agency.
Houston, left offensive tackle Jared Veldheer and running back Rashad Jennings signed with other teams after saying all along that they intended to return to the Raiders.

Then why does it bother u so much?

    Stop hating.

U dont like it, dont read it. Stick to following dunces like Vic Tarfur and Cork.

I dont claim to be an “insider”. I only claim to know a couple sources whom Ive flushed out as VERY credible. Why did they reach out to me? They like my takes on things. You’d be surprised who reads this social media stuff.

Considering I got beat writers emailing me back and fourth, I’ll take your criticism with a grain of salt.

  • nolarick

I think that losing Bush hurt like hell.

Doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m not trying to knock your hustle. You got followers, more power to you.

I know why they reach out to you. And no, I wouldn’t be surprised who reads this social media stuff. I’m positive there are paid shills/employees/staff who are hired to put a good face on the moves the organization makes in social media including this blog. That’s PR 101 for any large organization now. Trust me. I’m far more savvy about the press then you may realize.

He sounds a whole lot more credible than most folks in here and doesn’t seem to have an agenda. I trust what he says. You don’t have to.

  • Return

    fair enough.

It’s not about each individual position, it’s about the sum of the parts. If shuffling a little gets you the better combination of players on the field to execute that game plan, that’s what you do.

As a long time fan it has been hard to stomach what is going on since Gruden left, but unless we overpay, who is going to want to come here and play for a coach that is one foot out the door and a GM that seems to be a day late and a dollar short on most of his decisions since arriving to save us. Let’s just hope that he doesn’t give out too many bad long term deals, which tie us to mediocre players with Superstar level contracts and screw up the draft again.

Unless RM’s persona & demeanor are an act, I will be shocked if this guy gets us to 4 wins this year, RM & DA remind me of Beavis & Butthead and this is the first time in my 46 years on this planet, that there isn’t a player on the current roster, who’s jersey I would buy.

Last but not least, I had a bad feeling before free agency started, but kept thinking how can it get any worse, yet it did…

Hey Reggie, how can Jacksonville get more for Blaine Gabbert than we did for Carson Palmer???

I hope you make me eat these words…

  • Raider_Riff

If I was being played by the PR department, you think my sources would hate on Reggie as much as they do?

Ive basically used my original source to trade info with other well connected people. So I basically use the multiple sources to confirm and fact check before I post. Especially here at Corks. Im far more wreckless with my “rumors” over at my own place. For instance, Clemons was shopping himself to the Raiders immediately after the SuperBowl cause he knew he was getting cut. And I posted it over there.

I waited a long time and made sure I had compiled a lot of “rumors” before I ever came forward with any of this inside info. So far, I havent been lead wrong. And by no means have my sources been shills for the org.

McClown to Bucs, best news of the day

“there isn’t a player on the current roster, who’s jersey I would buy.”
    man, that says a lot…

  • Return

Look, you were most definitely used by Sparano. You are definitely being used by somebody to leak info that puts the Raiders contract negotiations with Veldy in a better light. (Can’t let the cries of a heartbroken mom go unchallenged.)

I’m not saying what you are doing is wrong or nefarious or devious. I’m saying whatever it is you are reporting, thus far, is what “factions” within the organization want you to report. Not that any of it has been earth shattering. Think about it. You aren’t going to say anything that will alienate one of your so called sources. So you “report” what they want you to.

So I’m not hating. I’m just not biting.

  • The Florida Pete

they know how to manage the cap…
they’ve been known to bend the rules now and then…

  • Raider_Riff

How was I used by Sparano?

I was told he was offered a 2 year deal and he was the ONLY coach offered that.

EVERYONE in the media and including my sources, thought he was still leaving.

Then things changed. I dont know why. Dont care.

I was told he was offered two years, and it turned out to be true. Whereas everyone else thought he left because he was only offered 1 year.

  • Raider_Riff

Additionally, my sources DO NO LIKE Reggie.

Why would they paint Reggie in a positive light regarding JV?

  • RaiderGuy50

With manning its obvious that Donkey’s will get another shot at a championship- unless RM and DA pull off a miracle.
Ware and Talib looking for a Ring!

  • Raider_Riff

Ummm….there are multiple media outlets reporting that we offered more than AZ. Are you choosing not to look or just not paying attention?

  • Raider_Riff

Mind you, Im open to the speculation that I could be getting played. That is far more likely than those who say Im just making this out of thin air or have an agenda.

But I still keep a damn skeptical eye on everything Im told.

Those that know me here know I try to stay pragmatic and fair.

  • JT

    Agree 100%

  • Raider_Riff

I only get info from one player. Not named Reece. And by no means is the info shill stuff meant to paint the org in a good light. It’s been the opposite.

Why do you think the local media has turned on Reggie so fast and hard? Cause the players are talking and the media is listening.

I think our FAs left mainly because our GM and HC are largely seen as a lame ducks.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

you shouldn’t wear another man’s name on your back anyway–alpha male marking a beta male, no good, man

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

mark’s fault for popping off to assuage whining fans

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Rod thought TP should be our qb going forward. Pass.

  • Alex7

and never really connected to the Raiders. Guessing Reggie is anticipating QB round 1. Figure three out of the five 1st round pick QBs will turn out legit (that’s a historically accurate %) and we’ll get a shot at Teddy, Manziel, or Bortles.

You KNOW Reggie isn’t going through another season of McGloin and Pryor to try and save his job.

  • Alex7

Palmer had less value throughout the league because he cost > $10 million at a declining age 34. Oh, and the “quit on the Bengals” rap. Gabbert is cheap, contract is up next year, and is young. Just ask why no one offered more than a 5th for Palmer.

  • Erik

Hey, I just said that I trust my team’s leadership…. MD saw an issue and pulled out of the deal. I wasn’t giving an endorsement for Saffold….. I still trust our leadership. We will be back.
