Saffold fails physical _ Raiders deal off

Offensive lineman Rodger Saffold, who agreed to terms on a five-year contract worth a maximum of $42.5, failed his physical and won’t be joining the Raiders, the club announced Wednesday evening.

It’s a setback for general manager Reggie McKenzie, who focused on the Rams tackle and guard, allowing incumbent left tackle Jared Veldheer to get away to the Arizona Cardinals for less money than he offered Saffold.
Saffold has not played a full season due to injuries since his rookie season in 2010, with issues including a torn pectoral muscle and a knee injury.
Saffold missed several games early last season because of a medial collateral ligament injury. Coincidentally, former Raiders draft pick Joseph Barksdale filled in for Saffold while he was injured.
Over his career, Saffold suffered head, pectoral, knee and shoulder injuries, among others.
The Raiders did confirm the signing of right tackle Austin Howard, who played last season for the New York Jets.

    And the Raiders aren’t.

  • Anybody else signing has no bearing on Tuck being an exclusive 4-3 player.
He has no position in a 3-4.

  • BigBenRexor

I think that Ice Cold Koolaid gave you a brain freeze. Don’t drink it so fast

  • _Mista_

I think SS signed with Bmore, not sure though.

    I wanted him signed yesterday.

  • turf toe

    And maybe a left tackle.

  • Davy Jones

I’ve grown to like the idea of drafting Watkins, but one result of the Veldheer/Saffold business is the massively increased likelihood of drafting a Tackle.

  • Gdog

Nope.. never in his career unless PFF is wrong. He oddly enough has played TE though…

  • Michael

Dam shame if true. He embodies the past raiders personality

  • BigBenRexor

    Looks like Jacoby Ford.

  • Return

Post em!!!! Just don’t say its from a official inside source.

  • One of the worst tackle in football, and the most penalized.
Still managed to win a SB however.

  • NYCRaider

understood my biggest concern with jv leaving. but watkins is tim brown jr

  • Myopinion

I think it’s cool, and thanks

  • 0ak R8rs

Watson better step up. May not be any left much better than Barnes at this point. Strongest part of our team for 4 years may end up being the weakest in 2014. Big problem.

  • RaidingTexas

Only to someone who knows little about football.

  • RediaR

I guess he’d be more of a 3-4 end than anything else…. Would likely only come up in passing situations anyway. We’re multiple.

  • FourMoreYears

Only thing that bugs me about the Tuck deal is that 6 of his 11 sacks last year came against one team, 5 of those against one player. Still a good signing though, he’ll be a good transition veteran to hold down a spot while we stock up on some younger guys.

  • Michael

Ugh yea. But ive always been of the opinion that you can build the oline In the mid rounds. No need to spend a premium pick

  • Raider_Riff

Would it be inaccurate for me to tell you I got a player, a person close to the Raiders, and a person inside the building, and a few beat writers I all get info from?

  • RediaR

    or fourth…

  • aig-raiders

physically he is a very good run blocker but we all know he’s not bright. That is why you move him inside and just let him maul.

  • _Mista_

No that was Sproles I was thinking of SS is still unsigned.

  • Chuck

Martin’s texts were just as bad, just sayin. Looks a whole lot more like friends messing around then bullying.

I mean, I don’t know about you, but for a lot of us there’s at least one person where they could take a few texts out of context and unleash them to the media, and we’d look as bad or worse.

  • RediaR

    New post creeps

  • Chino

@AdamSchefter: By and large, Tiffany free-agent prices are over. From now on, with a few exceptions, it’s shopping at Target.
    [Insert Reggie’s evil smirk here]

  • 0ak R8rs

Oher is on the other side of his career at RT. He can’t play LT.

  • Michael

Past his prime for sure. But still can play, is versatile, a great locker room presence and leader, 2 time champ, and comes cheap. Solid addition

  • _Mista_

Saffold wasn’t even a LT so Freckles is just ignoring the Qb’s blind side. Utterly unbelievable!!

  • RediaR

Unless the QB is Vick. We have 17 RTs.

  • Heard a scout say it is a terrible sign he already throws with a glove this young.
Indicates weak hands. Usually reserved for older players.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Not me. No texts, no tweets, no real ibabuzz archives.

  • Elliot

Watching this show in nyc called daily news live…first words out the guys mouth..”thought he would be a giant for life, goes from one the best organizations to the worse”

  • Michael

Get on the phone then reggie. Bring him in!

  • scinfidel

Unless he’s planning for a lefty to jump behind center, ahem Michael VIck

  • inonewordraider

what we got 50 mill left? 10 for allen, 10 for wilfork, 5 for smith, 5 for hatcher, 4 for Woodley, still got plenty for Jenkins porter, Woodson, draft…

  • _Mista_

Sproles to Philly or something not Bmore.

  • Chuck

I’m not sure he’ll be a consistent pass rusher, but should Oakland manage to get someone else across from him…

It at least alleviates the Houston situation. Whether Tuck is better or worse, the difference between the two at this point is probably marginal.

  • Return

I don’t know. I can’t say definitively who you speak to or not.

Look, all you have to say is I heard from a few of my buddies …blah blah blah. That’s all. Again, I like the insight. Just don’t try and color it into something it is not.

  • _Mista_

Vick or not you still need a LT.

  • FourMoreYears

    Yeah, no complaints.

we would be even more foolish than we have been if we throw 10 mil at allen or wilfork

  • Michael

    What about Macy’s?

  • rudegruden

    Agreed. Good Deal

  • Raider_Riff

Im not coloring it as anything it’s not.

The person I got the text from is from inside the building. I didnt hear it from a “buddy”.

  • Ted Stosterone

Exactly. Those double, reverse direction, run backwards moves were killing us. There was some decent time in the pocket if he’d stayed.

  • Michael

Go sign Steve Smith! Legit hard working wr to help coach up the younger ones in the field and in the locker room! How long have we been dying for that???

  • Goldie7

    new post.

  • Rico Stifler

I think Porter signed with another team

  • Chuck

I’d be on board for Vince. Winning organization, and run stuffing DT’s usually age well. Ted Washington was going hard until almost 40, and he’s a pretty close comparison to Wilfork.

  • Rico Stifler

Also, most of those players are at the end of their careers…. pass
