Raiders get defensive once again, add another big-name veteran

The Raiders further bolstered their defense by signing veteran outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley to a two-year contract Thursday.
Woodley, 29, spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he recorded 57 sacks and earned a reputation as one of the game’s most versatile linebackers.
Earlier Thursday, the Raiders signed veteran defensive end Justin Tuck to a two-year contract. Tuck has the potential to earn as much as $11 million over the life of his contract. Woodley can earn as much as $12 million, according to an ESPN report.
Woodley played in a 3-4 defensive scheme his entire NFL career. The Raiders used primarily a 4-3 alignment the past two seasons under defensive coordinator Jason Tarver.
Given the Raiders return all three starting linebackers from last year’s team – Kevin Burnett, Nick Roach and Sio Moore – it’s unclear how the Raiders intend to use Woodley.
It’s conceivable that the addition of Woodley means Tarver intends to switch to a 3-4 scheme or at least use that look more often than he did the past two seasons.

    Brilliant comeback.

  • Raider_Riff

Im not disagreeing with you on that. Im just telling you what Im hearing. There is more to Clowney than has been exposed.

Honey Badger’s film was awesome. HIs combine was excellent. I had him highly ranked. I knew he’d be good.

Im not sold on Clowney’s film. It’s not as good as it should be. But boy is he a heck of a athlete. But so is DMC.

He could be a stud. But he wont equal wins. Lawrence Taylor he isnt.

I cant listen to the constant 49er masturbation it was killing me so I stopped listening to that station.

  • _Mista_

  • Hotep Down

remember when he tried to jump our tackle?

  • aig-raiders

he complains about people stalking him and other people talking non Raider related stuff….and yet what does he do? smh.

  • william banks

We better not pick Johnny football bcuz its not what we need.We need more DEFENSE!!!!

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

Said the guy who constantly falls for Raider hype.

  • DKnight007

If denver or pats would have picked up Tuck, Woodley, Smith….it would have been considered “genius” moves by Schefter and everyone around the league. They get picked up by Raiders? Not so much…..predictable…

  • RaidingTexas

I know. Everyone knows who the real troll is here.

  • _Mista_

I dont sit here and take it.

    Hows your McGloin fathead?

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

That’s what I mean about his attitude.

  • Jon Train

His height is not the problem. The problem is he doesn’t know how to go thru his progressions and much of his playmaking was predicated upon having 6 seconds to throw and then running around for another few seconds b4 making a play. That will not work in the NFL

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I’m on it. If I wandered around with a smart phone glued to my hip we’d be cool. I’m a luddite and don’t.
will definitely have pics of his 1st fvck, though!

    New post

  • aig-raiders

Bringing Tuck and Woodley in instantly brings back credibility to the team. It was obvious by the reaction of other players on twitter verse yesterday.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

He’s not knowledgeable. I think his job is to yell, scream, try to cause controversy and argue with callers-in. I think management figured they had to have one guy like that in their line-up and I can accept that, but, well, different strokes for different folks: I think he comes off as a phony who really can’t hide that that’s what he’s supposed to be doing, getting callers by yelling and screaming.

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

Yeah, but we sure as hell need a playmaking QB too.

  • 8raiderreign8

Can anyone tell me why’d they kill The Rise Guys?

  • Guest123

    Penn will be mine

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    Big mistake.

  • SilverandBlack666

    LOL that would be cool

  • Raider_Riff

Hayden has told other players that he didnt expect to get picked until the 2nd round. Getting picked by us that high SHOCKED him.

Gruden was dead against the pick and Mark was listening. Gruden has second guessed nearly every move Reggie has made and has turned out to be right. So Mark is sitting there getting more frustrated.

Once Hayden started getting roasted and ended up on IR, Mark lost his head over the deal and got into it with Reggie.

It hasnt been the same since between Reggie & Mark.

  • BOKNOWS

False…every expert ive read says he knows where everyone is on the field at all times…almost uncanny…his line in the middle would break down but before that he did his reads well….besides….all rookies need to get better at stuff

  • SilverandBlack666

    That guy would fight anyone!

  • FourMoreYears

I hope so, because I fully expect him to draft an offensive tackle who will be switched to guard eventually at number 5 and then to select a couple of decent backups with the rest of the remaining picks.

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

I wonder if it has something to do with fact that Houston is just starting his career basically, while Tuck and Woodley are at the end of theirs?

  • william banks

QBS don’t really matter to me if your Offensive Line is dominant enough to give any QB time to throw like Stabler and Plunkett used to get.Thats why you makle sure that the whole team is awesome on Defense,Special Teams, and Offensive Line First.

  • Raider_Riff

We tanked 4 years in a row down the stretch.

Cable’s Raiders….remember the Jax game? Defense blew it.

Hue’s Raiders….same team, defense was bums down the stretch.

DA’s first year…..same bums on D, and a completely backwards approach to our offense created that disaster.

Last year?….. decimated OL, no continuity at QB, crap WRs, injuries began to stack up on defense.

In all of those 4 seasons, what is the common denominator? Not just solid first halfs to the season, but more often than not, we were winning games or it was close at half time of each individual game. Our coaching staff was working miracles.

  • ComptonRaider

    AJ McCarron anyone?

  • http://AdvoCare.com/ Till death do us part

Houston’s telling Melton not to come here, no way on oher he’s a black hole to the QB

  • Raider_Riff

    No. No. No. Nooooooooooooooo!!!

  • Raider_Riff

We made a run at him.

    Doesnt want to come here.

  • Raider_Riff

Have you compared his film from year to year?

He’s a real QB once you get past the highlights and hype.

  • Chino

@RaidersBeat: –> @RVacchianoNYDN: Tuck said Giants could’ve had him for 2 years, $8 million. He said “They wouldn’t have had to match” #Raiders offer.

  • Silver&BlackBleeder

I’m not gonna lie; didn’t watch one Oregon St game & I’ve only seen highlights of Cooks, but I was very impressed. Good to know

  • william banks

    More DEFENSE anyone? Yes,Yes,Yes,Yes,Yes,!!!!!!!!

  • JV.

@JohnLundRadio: #Raiders were likely to use Saffold at LG, Incognito plays LG, is the best left & has ties to Sparano- Would you sign him #RaiderNation?

Sparano can turn him around…. No way he wants a a lot… Give him enough to buy another Ferrari and it’s good.

  • JV.

If we have a good Oline and add penn sure looked good at his pro day and at the combine,

  • FourMoreYears

100% agree on the last point.

  • Raider_Riff

You cant disagree with any of it.

    I only listed facts.

  • Jon Train

No I watched him this year. Sandlot type player. Doesn’t work in the NFL.

  • william banks

Yeah right, check our Manziels stats against LSU safeties and corners. There are a lot of em in the NFL,plus he didn’t do that well against them in college either.

  • Raider_Riff

    Honestly, answer me this…

Did u just watch live games?

Or game film? And how much and how many times?

  • Chino

@Gil_Brandt: Brandin Cooks working out today at @Oregon pro day. Reminds me of Wes Welker, only faster. Great kid. Going to be good NFL player.
