Raiders free agent frenzy continues, with three more vets on way for visits

Veteran defensive end Antonio Smith and veteran offensive tackle Michael Oher are the latest players on their way to Alameda to meet with Raiders officials about the prospect of wearing silver and black next season.
Smith, 32, started 117 games during his 10-year NFL career, five seasons each with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. He recorded five sacks last season and 41 ½ during his career.
Oher, 27, started all 80 regular-season games during his first five NFL seasons, all with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Raiders still are in search for a left offensive tackle after losing Jared Veldheer to the Cardinals in free agency and voiding a deal with Rodger Saffold as a result of a failed physical.
Oher played left and right tackle for the Ravens. It’s unclear whether the Raiders envision Oher as a candidate to replace Veldheer.
The Raiders also are taking a look at veteran offensive tackle Donald Penn, who started every game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the past six seasons and 108 of 112 the past seven seasons.
Oher is best known, perhaps, for being the inspiration for the smash-hit movie “The Blind Side.” He was a first-round pick of the Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft and helped them win the Super Bowl two seasons ago.

Check your facts you blubbering moron. He finished the season including the playoffs just fine.

  • DanfromVegas

I was curious about the thing, but I didn’t feel that that signing or the fiasco that followed would define our entire off season.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Bair’s just reporting that Penn left. No need for the hate.

  • waxxo

    New post

  • RTF916

Most bay area media agencies, especially the big ones like the chron and CSN, have their niner reporter, their raider reporter. Hence, Bair covers the Raiders.

This is his comfort zone, negotiating frugal contracts from a position of strength. Reggie excels in a buyer’s market. In a seller’s market, where players have other options and negotiating power? You see how that went. And it’s a shame, he could have had everything he has now AND a blue chip player from day one. Maybe if he survives this year he can learn from his mistakes.

Glad to see that some of you guys had patience and others like myself let the frustration come out. RM for now has reedemed himself in a big way

  • Gdog

The forum as a whole has been pretty positive since the Tuck signing dude.

    Just chill…

  • Raiders for Life

Burnett played every bit as good as Wheeler did last season at a fraction of the price tag. Winner Raiders.

  • kuhlest

Kendrick Lewis (KC) 26 y/o 4 yr starter
    Patrick Chung-just released
    Mike Huff..hehehee (UFA)

  • DanfromVegas

Well correct me if I’m wrong, but we signed Tuck, Woodley, Smith, and Brown. That’s your number squared if my math serves me right.

  • RTF916

I’ve been watching Bair. Implication after implication that the Raiders are failing. He’s hating.

  • r8ter4evr

Tuck 2 SB rings Woodley 1 what’s your point??

LOL. What can I do? I won´t be lucky even borning again.

  • DanfromVegas

I feel your pain bro. I had lost faith and wanted to break things week in and week out until we got rid of Knapp. That was actually when I started to believe that in time we would get better. He should have never been hired in the first place, but the fact we dropped him right away was a glimmer of hope that slowly grew.

  • rudegruden

    LOL, that is true.

  • Rick Worth

This is so cool I wake up and see who are latest signing is > fun being a Raider fan Wooo!! Go Reggie!!

  • DanfromVegas

Bro, I’m all about the chill. I think for the most part I’ve been pretty respectful

  • DJ Johnny

I mean they’ve all played on winning teams and are used to having a taste of it.

  • Rick Worth

And still got the draft yet

You read that Jerry and Cork?
    You’re not a “big one”.

  • Rick Worth

Woo new post who’s next yippie

  • Raider O

It’s ok dude. You a warrior/ Aztec. Kill the lucky ones and take your land back, then make them feel unlucky. lol

    That statement is fuk’n crazy/

  • DanfromVegas

Slid run stopper, but I don’t remember too many defensive line surges where they’d collapse the pocket with a 4 or even 5 man rush.

    We had a “young” defense?!
We had a load of guys on one-year contracts that that other teams didn’t want to sign!
What the hell is wrong with you?

  • JLofty

More were available on Monday and Tuesday than now….

  • doug5301

Can we say bless Mark Davis now. Great veto of Stafold contract, and Reggie has been solid since then.

He was mentioned as a target very early on. I think the combination of the Veldheer/Houston and Saffold situations and the other big name corners rumored as targets pushed it into the background. I do remember his as one of the first names mentioned, however.

  • JB

If Reggie can sign Alex Mack and take a premier OLT in the draft @ #5, I’ll consider his efforts as acceptable – even though I think he blew it with Veldheer & Jennings. RM is doing OK with the defense but the offense is still short on the O-line and at QB. With a great O-line we can get by with less than a top QB. Dilfer proved that with the Ravens when they won the SB with a great D and adequate O.

  • making your living off music will make a pessimist out of anyone. (as will being a raider fan) haha.
