Raiders bring back one of their own

The Raiders took a break from signing other teams’ free agents to re-sign one of their own Saturday, with safety Usama Young returning on a two-year contract.
Young, who turns 29 in May, started one of the 12 games he played for the Raiders last season.
For now, he is in line to compete for the starting job at free safety. That changes if the Raiders re-sign veteran Charles Woodson, which isn’t a sure thing.
Young started only 26 games during his first seven NFL seasons. However, he is regarded as a valuable player because of his ability to fill in at both safety spots and play special teams.
Young is the third of Oakland’s 18 unrestricted free agents to be re-signed. Offensive lineman Khalif Barnes and running back Darren McFadden signed extensions earlier this month.
The Raiders have spent most of their time in recent days targeting free agents from other teams.
Earlier this week, they signed defensive linemen Justin Tuck and Antonio Smith, linebacker LaMarr Woodley and cornerback Tarell Brown, in addition to meeting with several other players who played for other teams last season.

the bad stadium never seems to hurt the Eagles when they go looking for players

  • JV.

What’s all this talk about wiz wanting to leave??

  • http://ggeden.blogspot.com/ GG

Buy up McFadden in fantasy leagues. He’s contract-hungry. Always the best timing in fantasy. Those with fat new contracts often stall.

our stadium is almost a non-issue when negotiating with players..
remember the dream team of free agents a couple years back in Philadelphia? the worst Stadium in the league and also one of the worst cities in the country…..

and Philadelphia never has trouble with free agents.. neither do the Oakland A’s.

we’re having a hard time because we aren’t winning we don’t have a great coach and we don’t have a great quarterback

How many rivers have you cried this season already? :O

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Wasn’t that the thinking last year?

  • Ian

Hey neither of us are in that room. No one I know likes to play football on dirt. Maybe prisoners in Azkaban

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

  • _Mista_

Niner fans are whiners. You sure do a lot of whining ;)

    Riight.

  • inonewordraider

gotta lotta money to spend, why not show young available stars like Tallib or Byrd the money? wanted veldheer but then what was Watson drafted in the 2nd for and if saffold failed a physical then no way you want him, regardless if us geniuses think it was nixed by mark

The Eagles also share the stadium with a baseball team, are also on a one year lease agreement in the stadium in which they play, and had sewage backup issues at what is unquestionably the worst stadium… why does that sound familiar and yet incorrect?

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

we need Donald Penn right away. OT David Stewart just retired and OG Johnson just re-signed with Vikings. come on, Reggie!! go go go. sell sell sell

  • Kamikaze_Sensei

McFadden: “There’s no place I’d rather be. I want to prove to the team
that drafted me that I am a top running back in this league”

    ——————–
Never a bad thing to have on your team.

  • marks hair

it was a great move by Mark. He had to step in

  • marks hair

do you have something to say regarding my post about the stadium being a non issue?

    or you just out trolling?

  • AutumnThunderstorm

    No we don’t

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I hadn’t written him off at his age. Did not expect him to be a Raider this year though.

  • marks hair

I don’t know about all that but its on questionably the worst field to play on in the NFL

  • JV.

I like martavius Bryant out of Clemson in round 3.

Reminds me of Andre Johnson. / Julio jones.

  • RaiderCDE

McFadden needs to be used less as a RB and more of an H-Back/Flex-WR and let Reece carry the rock more.

  • Breaking_Black

I don’t think the stadium is a problem when negotiating with players I just think its the cherry on top of a sht sundae.
But you think Philly’s Lincoln Financial is the worst stadium?

And of course the stadium isn’t a problem for the A’s…ITS A BASEBALL STADIUM. lmao.

  • inonewordraider

how can any of us think if mark stepped in to nix the saffold deal it’s a good move? if this is true then reggie can’t evaluate talent in which case we’re screwed regardless. and you want to trust marks evaluation acumen? no way

  • Ian

Yeah this was unexpected. So much for the theory that Reggie only wants “his guys” all the time…. But I’m glad to have someone on the team who wants to be here just to be here.

  • _Mista_

How about Reece put on 10lbs and move to TE where he belongs.

  • marks hair

so three games of a dirt in field is that bad? Lol
in Philadelphia they play with seemed carpet right over cement

  • JV.

    He’s marks guy.

  • Breaking_Black

I remember Philly’s Vet being like that but.. that was years ago before they got a new stadium.

  • http://ggeden.blogspot.com/ GG
  • marks hair

paying an injury prone guard a record-breaking contract is stupid and Al Daviish….
mark did the right thing by killing that deal

  • Breaking_Black

And yes considering how big the NFL is, it’s embarrassing that the Raiders are having to borrow a stadium with dirt in it.

  • http://ggeden.blogspot.com/ GG

    All this “Marks guy”….”Als guy”….”Reggies guy”…..”Allens guy”….etc is over-played and over-stated.

  • Ian

Hmmm I wonder how much Mark is involved

  • marks hair

I wasn’t even aware they had a new stadium.. I take it all back then ours is the worst

  • RaiderCDE

Some good RB prospects in the later rounds/FA this year – need to bring in 1 or 2 as McFadden might not make it out of camp. And Murray is already starting out in the same style. Nothing like IR to start your career.. smh

  • Kamikaze_Sensei

Haven’t seen you post this link, but thank you. Very informative.

  • Raider O

So why didn’t he do well last season? People said the same thing last year.

  • Ian

This video is hilarious. Meet our new LB or DE. Seems like a cool dude, and ESPN said he was a high character guy but production has slipped a bit. We shall see in time.

    Next on Reggie’s hit list….

Free agent CB Aaron Berry is drawing interest from teams.

Berry, 25, missed the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL and has appeared in just 19 games over the last four seasons due to injuries. A once-promising UDFA, Berry has flashed starting-caliber tools and can contribute on special teams. Berry should only require a non-guaranteed deal and is a low-risk, high-upside signing for a team that’s willing to take a chance on his health.

  • http://ggeden.blogspot.com/ GG

Just teasing you. Im often “liking” your posts. Man, you sure are snappy today.

As for stadium. It’s terrible. MD will have a tough choice to make in the near future.

  • RaiderReloader

I just said you dont know the plan is to now draft a LT with 5th pick.

Saffold is a bit of a head scratcher but the sky is not falling, and the Raider doctors made a conservative call thats probably a good one.

  • R8drTahoe in SF

It went over your head I guess… Have a good one MH.
