Raiders slated to meet with another veteran defender

Linebacker Rob Jackson is scheduled to visit the Raiders early next week as the Raiders continue their wide-ranging search to revamp their defense.
Jackson, 28, played mostly special teams and as a reserve linebacker during his six seasons with the Washington Redskins.
However, he also flashed as a potential starter when he filled in for 14 games in 2012.
The Raiders are set at all three linebacker spots, with 2013 starters Kevin Burnett, Nick Roach and Sio Moore under contract for 2014. The Raiders also added veteran linebacker LaMarr Woodley via free agency Thursday.
Jackson played in only 10 games his first three seasons. He appeared in 44 of 48 games the past three seasons. Fourteen of his 15 starts came in ’12.
Already, the Raiders signed four players that are expected to compete for starting jobs next season.
Defensive end Justin Tuck, defensive lineman Antonio Smith and cornerback Tarell Brown are the others besides Woodley.

Or Warner with cards. Remember that stint in between with giants? Yup. Never know

  • Sweep the leg

Not Lawrence Taylor. Good SP and backup guy. there are more like him.

  • jesusraiderjim

If “no one” will do it that means Reg will most likely do it. Reg goes against thegrain.

  • TrevJo

Andy Dalton is not an above average QB. Not for a starter, anyway.

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

    Not everyone needs a QB.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

    Like Saffold, Howard, and DMc?

Reggie is hitting both sides of the ball.

What he’s ignoring is the need for a 2nd punter.

  • jesusraiderjim

    appalling is more like it

  • Raidman (Formerly Veldiman)

    Ok, thanks.

  • Elliot

Bingo…He does indeed know lbs. Needs to go back to college and get his degree in picking qbs.

  • Michael

Oh dam i completely forgot he was ever on nyg

  • Chino

    Pats role player/ st

  • SilverNBlackPA

Consider Reggie’s QB evaluation history and ask yourself if he deserves the benefit of the doubt on this one

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

    Right. Cuz that’s happening?

  • TrevJo

Warner won a Super Bowl and 2 MVPs with the Rams. C’mon son.

  • 0ak R8rs

That’s ridiculous. I’d take the 4 previous as weighing more than last year. Could he end up sucking? Sure. More likely he will return to the same solid but not spectacular 90+ guy. And keep us from reach on for a bust QB w our 5th. I’m all for it. Can’t hurt. We aren’t winning more than 6 games next year anyway.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

    Cool first name

  • Sweep the leg

    I think he is.
OK call him a QB who doesn’t completely suck. We could use one of those.

  • Raidman (Formerly Veldiman)

Looks like he’s coming in today.

    Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 4m

DE Alex Carrington, formerly of the #Bills, is headed to Oakland today for a #Raiders visit, then off to the #Rams after that

  • TrevJo

Warner was 5-4 with the NYG. Not his fault they decided to tank midseason by putting not-ready-for-prime-time rookie Eli in.

  • Hotep Down

OUR D IS OLD. will have to mix it up with lots of drafted and undrafted youth

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

    …as badly as we do.

  • EDWARD TEACH

It does appear that RM is looking for a certain type of player here, because he is a lot like Fletcher (the guy we lost to Tampa). Same type of build, similar roles with their respective former teams. Maybe he’s looking to get a little bigger inside at the LB position.

  • SilverNBlackPA

Then why give up assets that could maybe help an actually good Raider team win games for a QB that’s going to max you out at 6 wins?

  • SnBG

    Good point Doc.

  • 0ak R8rs

Yea. He’s only been in the playoffs every year of his career. He sucks.

  • TrevJo

Fletcher is a lot smaller. But maybe he wants STs experience. It’s not like we really have to add a starter at the LB position.

  • 0ak R8rs

It’s not gonna be a high pick. 6th at the most. Anymore than that and then I do have a problem w it. Should be similar to the Palmer trade to AZ. Maybe even just a 7th.

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

16th highest paid QB? Schaub’s salary alone this year is over $14 million. Houston doesn’t “absorb” any of that

  • TrevJo

You can’t name 16 QBs better than Dalton? Try harder.

Anyway. That doesn’t mean he or Schaub is as bad as McGloin or Pryor. But it doesn’t mean he’s worth a roster spot and slowing the development of a rookie QB, either.

  • Dakota

I know I floated the idea of trading for schaub yesterday, but I had no idea he would take up $14 million in cap space. Forget that. Don’t be a moron Reggie.

  • EDWARD TEACH

You’re right about Fletcher. Looked him up this morning, too. Must have been thinking about somebody else. My bad.

  • Chino

    Ok. Hasslebeck to titans

  • Hotep Down

we have cap space, maybe if they give us draft picks to take him, that sounds about right

  • 0ak R8rs

Edelman was a 7th round pick. Means nothing w regards to what we r talking about right now. Just saying.

  • TrevJo

Technically it would be $10.9375M in 2014, then $13.5M in 2015, then $15.5M in 2016. Assuming we didn’t cut him or restructure.

His signing bonus is counting $3.5M per year against the cap, we wouldn’t have to absorb that hit so that’s why he’d cost us less than $14M in 2014. Houston would be on the hook for $10.5M in dead money instead.

    15 career starts?
Sounds like that Kaluka character we picked up last year.

  • SnBG

Again, no one, I mean no one will trade for Schaub. No body.ever.Period.

  • TrevJo

    we hope

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

    Reggie’s nickname is “nobody” ??

  • Raideralex99

Only Reggie would be dumb enough to trade for a player when everybody in the league knows he is getting cut.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

    Maybe a low rounder.

  • Chino

    Solid depth/potential. See usama young

  • Sweep the leg

You could name 16 if you like. My point is he’s around the above average category of NFL QB’s. Not saying he’s elite, but he is worthy of a roster spot. I’d be happy to see him on the team And if we get a rookie QB who is lighting it up so be it – Wilson>Flynn.
    Just my opinion.

  • TrevJo

Well he wasn’t dumb enough to trade for Revis, who would have just pouted about taking our $16M, so there is at least a glimmer of hope.

  • Chino

    It’s happening. Get over it

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

    Carrington is a 6’5 300 pound DE. And we aren’t going 3-4?

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

I saw him last year. I saw him play good one week, crappy the next, and hurt the next.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

    Tuitt in the 2nd please.

  • TrevJo

Yeah we’ll have to agree to disagree on the above average thing.

If we can get Schaub for a reasonable contract without giving Houston anything, fine. If we trade for him, neither of those things is true, in which case not fine.

  • Marley Bob

Don’t do it Reggie, there’s no coming back from trading for a 14 million a year, washed-up QB who everyone knows will be released at some point. Just don’t.
