Raiders slated to meet with another veteran defender

Linebacker Rob Jackson is scheduled to visit the Raiders early next week as the Raiders continue their wide-ranging search to revamp their defense.
Jackson, 28, played mostly special teams and as a reserve linebacker during his six seasons with the Washington Redskins.
However, he also flashed as a potential starter when he filled in for 14 games in 2012.
The Raiders are set at all three linebacker spots, with 2013 starters Kevin Burnett, Nick Roach and Sio Moore under contract for 2014. The Raiders also added veteran linebacker LaMarr Woodley via free agency Thursday.
Jackson played in only 10 games his first three seasons. He appeared in 44 of 48 games the past three seasons. Fourteen of his 15 starts came in ’12.
Already, the Raiders signed four players that are expected to compete for starting jobs next season.
Defensive end Justin Tuck, defensive lineman Antonio Smith and cornerback Tarell Brown are the others besides Woodley.

Jezuz cripes are you kidding? If Reggie does that without renegotiating schaubs contract down to about $7 million per, then we will know Reggie is intentionally trying to sink the raiders.

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

Schaub is making more than Carson Palmer & Tony Romo this year. will Reggie ask him to take a paycut upon arrival, like he did CP3 ??

  • 0ak R8rs

It’s not inconceivable that WE might get a pick for Schaub. If he doesn’t wanna be here (can’t imagine it’s worse than Houston for him right now, but who knows) there’s HUGE incentive for the Texans to get him off the books. They could conceivably give us a low pick just to take Schaub off of their hands.

Smith told the Houston press, Reggie told him he will play DT in our 4-3 defense.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

And we would spin that pick into someone taking Pryor.

    I like it.

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

yeah right. this isn’t the NBA

  • RaidO

A trade for Schaub(hope the story it is not true)

May also involve McGloin= Bill O’Brien connection.

  • Dakota

Just because revis’ people laughed at him when he inquired.

  • Marley Bob

They can cut him, trade for him and you het his salary as well,

  • TrevJo

Only bad things can happen if we renegotiate, the way these things work 99% of the time. So yeah, trading for him would mean paying him too much $.

  • mikeschoice

We should get picks a player and a restructured deal for eating cap

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

Ooooooooo… good point! Schaub for McGloin (straight up) ??

  • TrevJo

    Nevertheless.

  • Chino

Yeah. I’d hate to see what he could do on another team. Although, they wouldn’t draft a qb anymore.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

Yeah and Woolley said he’s playing 4-3 DE.

But we are sure loading up on guys that resemble 3-4 guys.

And we still are looking at LBs.

  • 0ak R8rs

Yea. But if they cut him, then THEY eat his salary and cap hit. Trust me, they r motivated to move Schaub without cutting him.

  • TrevJo

Thinking about trading for Schaub makes me sick to my stomach.

I will log off for now with one parting thought:
-Hopefully if nothing else Reggie has learned his lesson from the Flynn deal that giving up even just two 5th round picks can be way too much to pay for a QB another team didn’t want to start. Hopefully.

  • mikeschoice

Major restructure deal with trades and picks

  • Marley Bob

Its just a 4 million cap hit for them, he will be cut unless someone is stupid enough to trade for him.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Jackson and Carrington are reserve/ST guys with a chance to be cut out of camp.
Not someone you change your defensive philosophy for.

  • SlashNHack

This would be the nail in the coffin for Reggie !!!

  • Dakota

Is there a portion of that salary guaranteed? I think they will cut him.

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

Would be pretty stupid to inherit Schaub’s contract “as is” with 3 years left on it and also draft a Top 5 QB. Keep stocking up on DE’s – Jared Allen? and draft WR Sammy Watkins. FA TE Owen Daniels might want to rejoin Schaub, in Oakland

  • mikeschoice

Yeh and then took his old team t go playoffs

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Cutting and trading him have the same impact on the camp.

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

big difference between restructure & paycut bro. look it up

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    See: Us, Carson Palmer situation

  • 0ak R8rs

    Not true. It’s like $10.75

    Base Bonus Cap
    2012: 4,400,000 7,300,000 11,700,000
    2013: 7,250,000 3,500,000 10,750,000
    2014: 10,000,000 4,125,000 14,125,000
    2015: 12,500,000 4,500,000 17,000,000
    2016: 14,500,000 4,500,000 19,000,000

  • TrevJo

Have you happened to watch any of his playoff games?
Have you happened to notice who he’s throwing to, or the kind of defense Cincy played with Zimmer?
Mark Sanchez won a playoff game his first two years in the NFL and he is atrocious.

It’s a team game and Dalton is not the reason has Cincy is winning.

  • DanfromVegas

A little something for all the naysayers. There are some who are not being led astray by all the hoopla and negativity from all the Raider haters in the media.

  • Dakota

He came down with a broken foot at the combine I think….maybe we could get him in round three?

  • mikeschoice

Both teams are in turmoil. This will be a blockbuster with several pieces

  • 0ak R8rs

We got out from under palmers cap hit next year tho. Pretty sure anyway. Maybe I’m wrong.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Schaub a 10 million dollar dead cap hit if they cut/trade him, but does save 4 million over keeping him.

They are in a pickle for sure.

    http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Texans&Year=2014

  • SlashNHack

Schaub would be the total demise of the Muffin Man

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

Not change for them. Get them cuz they fit.

We played a TON of 3-4 last year with Houston standing up.

  • jesusraiderjim

    smoke and mirrors. LOL

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

10 million dead hit, 4 million cap savings if cut. 14 million ACTUAL CASH savings.

  • Hotep Down

has a team ever actually given pics or a player just so that the other team would take their over priced player? the raiders have more cap space maybe it could work

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

$4 million savings plus they have nobody at QB and are obviously drafting one… I don’t see them filling the void with Fitzpatrick, Weeden or Vick (do you?)

  • 0ak R8rs

I get that. Point is he’s managed to get them there. Yea, it’s a team sport, but to say he sucks is ridiculous. He’s done nothing but win. Playoffs suck so far. Not gonna spend a lot of time defending him. But id take him.

  • mikeschoice

Give us Johnson will help cap problems

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    new post

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

    you’re always begging for johnson

  • jesusraiderjim

    GEICO

  • TrevJo

    I never said Dalton sucks.

But he is NOT an above-average starting QB.

I’d take him too, IF we could get him at a reasonable salary without trading something for him. Same with Schaub.

  • DanfromVegas

I hope we don’t trade for him, not without a major restructuring of his contract. Besides, he played like a broken man. A physical injury has a logical sequence for healing. Schaub seems like a basket case.

  • RediaR

Pretty sure everyone loses that deal.

  • Raider_Riff

    McGloin was bad? Since when.

Our QBs completely outplayed the rest of our offense game in and game out.

There is no telling how good McGloin would be if our WRs could catch or our OL could stay healthy or we had any semblance of a running game.

Texans are $13.752 under cap. Schaub would count $3.5 million against cap if they waived him and made him June 1 cap casualty.
