Coach Allen attends Bridgewater’s pro day Monday, meets with top prospect

It’s no secret that the Raiders are in need of a long-term solution at quarterback. On Monday, coach Dennis Allen attended the pro day workout of Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater in an attempt to gauge whether Bridgewater might be the answer.
Bridgewater is one of a handful of quarterbacks considered potential first-round picks in the NFL draft in May. Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles and Derek Carr are other options.
The Raiders hold the rights to the No. 5 pick, and they should have a shot of at least one of the aforementioned quarterbacks.
Several analysts in attendance at Bridgewater’s workout Monday came away less than impressed. That didn’t prevent Allen from meeting with Bridgewater soon after the session concluded.
As of now, the Raiders have three quarterbacks on their roster – Trent Edwards, Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin. Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie have made it clear that they aren’t convinced that their starting quarterback for 2014 is on the roster right now.
Bridgewater is projected by some as the first quarterback drafted, if not No. 1 overall.

@VicTafur: Jones was homeless for time growing up in San Jose; went to Gunderson High; does lot of volunteer work for shelters in San Jose & Green Bay

  • JOn Wooah

You want youth u can always throw BUTLER out there tipping passes to himself for INTS… or Ford .. or Moore showing up every 3 games.

    how about that?

  • RaiderCDE

If RM wants to sign a Schaub in FA – having a vet winner like Jones here helps…

McShay on Teddy; “In coming to these pro day workouts for 14-15 years, the vast majority
of them, almost all of them, the QB ends up outperforming what you see
on tape. There’s no defense. There’s no pass rush. You’re in shorts and a
T-shirt and it’s a scripted workout that you’ve been working on for
30-40 days with your wide receiver. So to see Bridgewater come out here
today and be the exception to the rule … this is a rare occurrence for
a QB in his pro day, who is not nearly as efficient and effective when
he is when studying his tape.

  • JLofty

Our first two picks in last year’s draft were hurt most of their rookie seasons. Age isn’t the only determination of injury. Of course we got a LOT older on D in the past week….

  • JOn Wooah

VICK, Sammy Watkins, JONES, DMAC/ Trade for CHRIS JOHSON.

NOW WHAT??? Gonna shock some teams out there

  • EDWARD TEACH

So happy that we addressed the vet WR “position”. I’ve been clamoring about that for three or four years. It’s about time.

  • Chino

    Easy there cowboy.

  • SR Raider

remember the flintstones rock group the way-outs? kinda like that

  • IVRaider

Not that much of a distinction honestly. DHB got close to 1000 yards once, but I think JJ is much better than him.

    New post

re: Raiders signed WR James Jones

  • Thec

Like I said earlier, “IF” the tea and Crumpets dude is the LT then we go Watkins. If not we go Robinson/Trenchmen.

  • william banks

Veldheer can’t stay on the field. He’ll probably do the same thing this year for his other team.

  • EDWARD TEACH

Wow, Thec. Long time no hear from. Good to see you in here again.

  • Davy Jones

Today we learned that Teddy hurt himself as a prospect with his workout, and that James Jones had signed with the Raiders. What does that say about the Raiders at #5? Sorry Watkins fans, not going to happen. Instead, the Raiders will draft OL in the first round. The Veldheer/Saffold fiasco made it nearly inevitable anyway, but this cements it. One more important thing about it: makes a trade down look increasingly likely. There are three OL ranked in the top 10 of most draft boards. 2 of the 3 will certainly be there at 5, but at least one should be available if the Raiders trade back.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

IN other words, he does better in game conditions, with opposing players….or maybe the guy was up all night with toothache. How the hell many variables could have come into play. If a team wants TB, this shouldn’t matter. If they don’t want him, it doesn’t matter any way.

  • RaiderCDE

Now sign Penn and Melton and we’re making progress.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    Another character guy. Helps.

  • inonewordraider

so we rolling with McGee and Crawford at dt? yikes

  • Chino

@ChrisHansenNFL: In 2012, Denarius Moore had 242 slot targets on #Raiders. In 2013 he had just 24. Streater had 113 and then 232. Took the job.

  • Davy Jones

I think the Jones signing puts an end to Watkins. Jones, Moore, Streater, Holmes- the Raiders have WRs. Khalif the current LT.

  • RaiderCDE

    Denarius Moore is trade bait.

  • Chino

    Yeah getting some props.
@RapSheet: Their misses get a lot of publicity. But the #Raiders have quietly signed OT Austin Howard, Justin Tuck, Woodley, & now James Jones. Solid.

  • Thec

whats Good Bro??? Hope all is well.

  • Chino

    How dare you

  • PlunkforHOF

    Mistic?

  • RaiderDirt

    James Jones 3yr deal…

Penn will be finalized by Friday, BOOK IT…

If One of the top QB prospects, and a top OT or Clowney is there at #5 i wish(list) Reg will trade down to ATL at #6 THEN to TB or MINN at #8…

That’ll be 3 round 2 picks plus we get a need filled.in the first round…

Use the proving VET players to groom , teach, & prepare future probowlers …

    FINGERS CROSSED A MACK BUY OUT from,Browns & a Jackson signing from TB(I think he’s still available)…

    One Nation

  • RaiderCDE

    Melton, Melton, Melton…

  • 0ak R8rs

Haters will hate. But I like the Jones pick up.

  • RaiderDirt

Smith can run at DT as well

  • RaiderCDE

Jones signing getting universally praised.. finally

  • Chino

They could have Pryor but it’ll be a mistake letting Moore go

  • Chino

@ChrisHansenNFL: Raiders could trade both Pryor and Denarius Moore to the Panthers.

  • 8raiderreign8

Not really… Moore’s been doggin it for a while.

  • inonewordraider

    for who?

  • ComptonRaider

Please let us find a true franchise quarterback this upcoming draft. C’mon football gods.

  • inonewordraider

of all ppl Carolina is looking at us to replace their receivers? wow, do it in a heartbeat. Streater Holmes and Moore are solid but unspectacular, and we got alotta holes to fill

  • 0ak R8rs

Any idea for what? Picks. Picks. Picks.

    Or Keuchley will do. Haha

  • canadianraider

Jones reminds me of a boldin type receiver…sweet pick up

  • inonewordraider

before jones I’m probably alone on this one but, holmes to me was the most impressive. the guy had such sure hands catching some bad throws and the guy is a big target. hopefully he continues to improve

  • Kamikaze_Sensei

Moss wasn’t really that great of a receiver with us; much better with Vikings and Patriots. Just goes to show how lacking our WR’s have been.

  • Jon Train

So…Freeman and Johnny Football? Party on, Wayne.

  • Blackholepriest

Trying to guess who they will draft this early is the game is like deciding what you’ll have for breakfast two months from now. It may be fun but kind of pointless. Things change on a Dailey basis. They don’t know who they’ll pick how can you guess?

They should build this team to the best of their ability and then add youth in the draft. Just continue to fill out the roster and make the draft decisions when it’s time……….period

  • Blackholepriest

    Yeah what did Woodson do?

  • Howard Benner

Eye to eye, lockstep mode as usual, bro. . .

  • Howard Benner

They the so called “mock drafts” should just go away. . .the ultimate act of futility. . .period!
