Raiders finalize deals with OT Penn, S Young

Offensive tackle Donald Penn and the Raiders on Wednesday finalized a two-year contract that gives the Raiders another viable candidate to replace departed left offensive tackle Jared Veldheer.
Penn can earn as much as $9.6 million over the next two seasons, according to an ESPN report. Approximately half that figure is guaranteed.
As of now, the Raiders have Penn, second-year player Menelik Watson and veterans Khalif Barnes and Austin Howard in the mix for their offensive tackle spots.
Howard likely is going to wind up on the right side. Barnes has played both spots during his nine-year career. He started 11 games in place of an injured Veldheer last season.
Penn started every game the past six seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and 108 of 112 during his seven-year NFL career.
The Raiders already have added three veteran offensive linemen since free agency started Mar. 11 – Howard, Penn and guard Kevin Boothe.
Center Stefen Wisniewski is the only one of the five starters from last season assured a starting spot in 2014. Incumbent right guard Mike Brisiel is the leading candidate to start there for a third straight season.
In other news, the Raiders announced the re-signing of backup safety Usama Young. He started one of the 12 games he played last season before he was sidelined by a neck injury.

    10 TD’s…..Tim in the 90′s

Watkins appears to be the type of receiver that comes along once every five years. If he is available, and we can’t serve a greater need with what’s available, I’d take him. Young cat like that groomed by a vet like Jones could be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come.

There are only two options at #5, Khalil Mack and the wrong guy.

This message was sponsored by the Mack to Oakland Bandwagon. MOB!

I said “AIMING” for 8-8, as in THAT is the target.
Not my target. But sure seems to be Reggie’s….

Did ‘Tiny Hands’ Wison do this to you, or was it a preexisting condition?

Is that when that avatar picture was taken? Cause I can see the tears ruining your makeup, it’s running down your cheeks. ;) I was upset, though I didn’t cry. I just shook my head and facepalmed.

It does not matter what was said. Talk is cheap. If you couldn’t see it for yourself then you just didn’t get it.

I’m sold on Mack. I think he can be a legendary linebacker in the NFL

Leave Bill Murray out of this.

I really wonder about Criner. DA has has his favorites and his “doghouse” people, i.e., Criner, Reece, Pryor. We know Reece is good. I still don’t know about Criner and Pryor.

  • DKnight007

Rather have Sankey than Hyde. Sankey is more like Shady McCoy style

  • DKnight007

Bortles has a higher ceiling than Teddy, Manziel and Carr…..easily….

Sez who? That’s why they play the games on the field and not on paper. Denver and SD going to take a step back.

    Literally? wow

With Star and without Sims, how many games do we win last season?

  • R8erEduc8er

With Star and without Sims, how many games do we win last season? I’d say the same amount. 4-12

The mention of Huff makes me shudder.

    RM redeeming himself..plain and simple

now wee need a strong youth movement in draft. i go bortles or johnnny F if avail….get a vet qb (shaub or vick) this yr and bortles starts in 15….im even ok with matt mcg giving it a go if we decide to get a clowney or watkins (vs bortles)…

on paper we are INFINITELY better than we were 12 mo ago…

reggie has made plenty of mistakes but he has bounced back HARD this past week+…glad to see it

this penn signing is so much better than the saffold disaster its not even funny…

    PS I have inside info..raiders looking to sign RB A. Brown to a 4yr deal…book it…u heard here 1st…

  • R8erEduc8er

A Brown from the Giants? Is he a FA?

Notice how every time someone ask for a link to this supposed hysterical break down of JV’s brother and him refusing the Raider’s offer of 10 million that suddenly….crickets.

Bortles is Gabbert all over again. I agree that a Quarterback is very important, but it’s such a crap shoot. There are only 4 superstar quarterbacks in the NFL.
*Brady was obviously not expected to be this good.
*Bree’s was let go by SD, they thought Rivers would be better.
*Rodgers was drafted in late first I believe, well after sorry Smith.
*Only Peyton panned out like expected.
So please focus on making a team. Not drafting a dream. We need a smart physical team. As Jimmy Johnson once said, give me smart players and I can work with them. I don’t want stupid players. By the way, he said that to Bellichek, who agreed.

  • tuckrulefool

    yes and yes…

  • I AM RAIDER

except I heard that over a week ago…
I personally hope so…looked good..dmc will get hurt..unless he finally works on making his legs stronger… but im hoping L Murray gets going this year…big..fast..strong
