ESPN: Raiders trade draft pick for Schaub

The Raiders have found their quarterback, reaching an agreement Friday to acquire Houston’s Matt Schaub for a late-round draft pick, according to an ESPN report.

The Raiders have not confirmed a trade.

Schaub, 32, is a two-time Pro Bowl quarterback who struggled for the Texans last season, losing his job to Case Keenum. Houston, which signed free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick Thursday, had no intention of retaining Schaub, who carries a $10 million salary in 2014.

Last season for the Texans, Schaub had 10 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions. He has. He has 130 touchdown passes and 84 interceptions for his career, which includes four seasons of passing for more than 4,000 yards.

General manager Reggie McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen were on record as saying following the season that the Raiders quarterback of the future wasn’t necessarily on the 2013 roster.

Schaub was the veteran quarterback targeted by McKenzie and Allen in a dwindling market that included Philadelphia’s Michael Vick and Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets.

Current quarterbacks on the roster include Terrelle Pryor, Matt McGloin and Trent Edwards. Pryor will now likely become trade bait to restore the late-round pick lost on Schaub. The Raiders are also expected to add a quarterback in the draft, with Allen going to the pro day workouts of Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater, Central Florida’s Blake Bortles and Fresno State’s Derek Carr.

McKenzie was at the pro day of San Jose State’s David Fales Wednesday, saying at the time he had a “pretty good idea’’ who the Raiders starting quarterback would be in the 2014 season opener.

D Moore + TP +4th round pick for Desean

  • FourMoreYears

He won’t be there in round 3, I say get your guy.

  • hwnrdr

What about Pryor for DeSean? Chip Kelly, Oregon offense…just saying

  • Twinkle

The difference is striking though. With Carson we had no team and now we have (at least on paper anyway) a team and a guy with a chance to go somewhere. Wonder who’ll we’ll throw under the bus first (after Reg and DA of course) if the whole thing stinks? lol

  • marks hair

You don’t know me at all

  • SR Raider

    streakbreaker!

  • Papertiger

How tall is Rivera? Maybe we gently kick the tires on Finley?

  • Guest123

Nope, don’t give away D Moore like that. TP = 3rd for desean

  • SilverNBlackPA

I’ll be kind to Schaub and say “a fat chick who wears it well”

  • I AM RAIDER

although I WISH someone could get to Pryor and get him to switch to TE… if he added 15-20 lbs…we could have our own Jimmy Graham!

  • Hotep Down

if we take cornerback, I think you’ve got to take him at 5 otherwise someone else will

  • marks hair

a lot of people are including the teams that will draft quarterbacks. Like Houston

  • DJ Johnny

A fat chick that used to be a 10. Ok..bad analogy. Never mind.

  • TrevJo

Assuming it was a 6th we gave up for Schaub (haven’t heard it confirmed?), that means our 5th and 6th rounders this year went to Matt Flynn and Matt Schaub. Schaub had better do SOMETHING good for us, even if it’s only for 1 year. (PREFERABLY for only 1 year.)

  • FourMoreYears

I would replace Murray with Swanson, but that would be sweet.

  • SilverandBlack666

get you out of a slump lol

  • Papertiger

I think it’s more like marrying that girl from HR who’s sad because one of her cats just died.

  • BigBenRexor

Yeah, but to trade for him is like Raw Dogging that fat chick with the lights on and web cam’ing it across the nation.

  • SilverNBlackPA

Didn’t Finley sign with someone already? (Seattle?)

  • SilverandBlack666

A fat chick that used to be a 8 and it makes sense….

  • SilverandBlack666

    that was good

  • Papertiger

I wouldn’t be surprised if we traded back just to get another 2nd or 3rd.

  • 2romes

    I don’t blame Reggie. That’s the feeling I get from D Jackson.

  • Nwr8r

So in the last two off seasons, RM has given up two draft picks to switch Schaub with Palmer?

  • _Mista_

    7th round pick for Schaub?
    Good deal…

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

But she’s not that fat. And she used to be pretty hot.

  • SilverandBlack666

Dr Bob…does Jesus approve of this trade?

  • SR Raider

Trade down to get WR Evans, or DL or OT? Could very well happen

  • FourMoreYears

    LOL

But for reals, McKenzie hired January 2012, Leinart signed May 2012.

  • SilverNBlackPA

If Reggie believes Manziel or Bridgewater is a franchise caliber QB, he’ll take one of them at #5, if available. You don’t let a potential 10 year franchise cornerstone get away because you traded peanuts for a 32 year old reclamation project.

If he doesn’t taken Bridgewater or Manziel, it’ll be because he doesn’t think they are that foundation type player, not because of Matt Schaub.

  • SilverandBlack666

and threw that extra money at Flynn…..still cant figure that one out.

  • Guest123

Carr worries me. Does not have that “it” factor you look for. Kind of wish he had some of Manziel’s swagger. Notice he’s always got his big brother hanging around his entourage. You want your starting QB to a “leader of men”. I don’t mind if he’s a bit of a jackwagon, egocentric with BMOC mentality. You want that from your QB for when the chips are down. Carr looks like he will fold like a pup tent if his big bro isn’t around watching and approving. Needs to grow a pair and step up to the mic and stand up by himself. Derek looks like he’ll always be the little brother.

  • DJ Johnny

‘What Raiders did was VERY GOOD MOVE by getting Matt Schaub. I think he wins some games for them. Sometimes all u need is a new environment”.
    -Mark Brunell ESPN

  • Twinkle

He had half of one striking loss that I remember vividly.I remember being hella impressed with Schaub til they hit the red zone and then he looked like me out there.Between the 20′s he didn’t miss a beat but that will be fine here…..
Seabass will return after he slaps the punter around a bit more….lol

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

    Only 32. No arm injury.

He did have the lisfranc. But he’s not a runner.

Leg injuries derailed culpepper but I don’t think it’s the same.

  • Morilla_00

By taking Schaub it shows what type of QB they want to run their offense. They aren’t going to touch Manziel.

  • FourMoreYears

    Jerry Rice – 6′ 2″

    Just saying, it ain’t everything.

  • marks hair

it’s a great move.. I’m just disappointed because I think will look past quarterback in the draft now

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

Yep. I’m pushing my agenda! Getting the word out!

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

    Sho nuf

  • _Mista_

Schaub was about the best option out there. Draft a QB in the 2nd round and let the kid watch.

M McGoin luvvers feel free to sit down and STFU from here on out he is a career backup, thanks.

  • BossKnows01

Great move? Take the beer goggles off and sober up.

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

Yeah. I like him too. Trade back would work.

I just want TWO big time wrs.

  • pcraider

Good article about Raiders and stadium options

Be nice shot in the arm to get this stadium issue finalized.

  • SR Raider

disagree. the second-tier qb’s in this draft are almost as good as the top guys. We’ll be taking one in the 3rd round

  • the swanky socialite dr robert

Lol. I have been on Schaub for a while.

(I even compared Flynn to him!)

  • marks hair

    Smh

  • 559 Raider 87

    U guys think he restructures?

  • NYCRaider

Add Watkins and then use rest of draft on defense and we will make some noise
