Raiders make Woodson signing official

Press release from the Raiders . . .

The Oakland Raiders have re-signed S Charles Woodson, General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Friday.

Woodson, a veteran of 16 NFL seasons, is an eight-time Pro Bowler, including selections each of his first four seasons in Oakland and four of his final five seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

The 6-foot-1, 202-pound defensive back has played in 222 career games with 219 starts, and ranks second among active players (Ed Reed) with 56 interceptions. His career totals also include 1,121 tackles (901 solo), 19 sacks, 33 forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries and 11 interceptions returned for touchdowns, which is second-most in NFL history.

The Raiders made Woodson the fourth-overall selection in the 1998 NFL Draft following a record-setting career at Michigan. He was the recipient of the 1997 Heisman Trophy, becoming the first predominantly defensive player to win the award.

Woodson played in 106 games with 103 starts with the Raiders from 1998-2005. He totaled 17 interceptions during his first in Oakland, and was named the 1998 Defensive Rookie of the Year after recording five interceptions and earning his first Pro Bowl selection in his first professional campaign. Woodson led the Raiders to three straight AFC West titles from 2000-02, and started for the Silver and Black and notched an interception in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Woodson signed with the Packers as an unrestricted free agent in 2006, and started 100 games in seven seasons in Green Bay. He recorded 38 interceptions and returned nine picks for touchdowns during his time with the Packers, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2009 and 2011. Woodson was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year after tying for the NFL lead with nine interceptions and returning a career-high three picks for touchdowns.

In 2013, Woodson re-joined the Raiders as a safety (having switched from cornerback in 2012) and played nearly every defensive snap for the Silver and Black. He totaled 133 tackles, which ranked second on the team, one interception, two sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown in Oakland’s 27-17 victory over San Diego on Oct. 6.

Thec: how about a different way to pay up? i’m inspired by Dakota. change your name to “GoHeat3peat” for 13 days. one day for each of Ford’s receptions in 2013. sound fair?? with a pic of LeBron James as your avatar…

  • Thec

Send me the email addy, and the amount.
I will get it in the mail pronto!!!

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I think there’s some interesting ones in there, Garrapolo, Mettenberger, heII, Savage is moving up some boards. Savage sounds better than Fales, anyway.

  • Thec

That would only work for someone who hated the heat. I actually like Tyron Cranes…

  • IAmAlwaysWrong

check the above. FYI my email addy is ADsuperbowl3@yahoo.com

  • Thec

Ok, sending you an email right now.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Priest, you weren’t really holding out hope for Pryor, were you?

  • Raider O

Just give me the $50. He wins, you pay, and I get $50. Genius!

  • Avion Davis

I agree a great front 7 will make a mediocre secondary look above average. If Hayden plays like a #12b pick this year then watch out!

  • Raider O

    Boyd?

  • Thec

    check your mail box.

  • Thec

    Hahahahahaha…Man O man…

  • Thec

Let me see, I am a GM and HC on a prove it one year leash.
Luck is not coming out this year, and I need a QB.
Do I take a gamble on one of these new toys?

    No thanks…

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

i’m not big on shorter QB’s(hah!). Pretty stocky, though. McGloin’s size is a drawback for me as well.

  • Thec

Man can we get anyone of these guys as a UDFA???

I do not trust the current regime’s QB evals.

Besides, they have better luck with UDFA’s.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I knew that inside info I had on you would come in handy someday.

  • Raider O

    1- WR: Watkins
2- DE/ OLB: Murphy or RB C Hyde
3- CB Keith McGill or Stanley Baptiste (both are 6’2+) and can play man
    4- QB T Boyd

  • Raider O

We can split the $50. Lol

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I’m still tempted to take the QB in the 2nd.

  • Raider O

    Who?

  • Raider O

I have a feeling Boyd is going to be like R Wilson after a year in the league.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Don’t know. Bortles or Carr I suppose if they’re still there. Garrapolo, Mettenberger, Murray, McCarron, Boyd, Savage, whoever our brain trust has as the best available.

  • Thec

    Don’t do it.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Doubt we’d need to worry about Savage being gone before the 3rd, but it’s the draft and history proves the best mocks right up to the 1st pick are phenomenally misranked.

  • Thec

    hahahahahaha…Thats good.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

If our brain trust agrees, you take him i the 2nd and don’t look back. Relative value/draft position is way over emphasized in my opinion.

  • Raider O

Bortles and Carr are 1st round prospects. I like Garrapolo, Mettenberger, Murray, and Boyd in the 3rd or 4th but not in the 2nd.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

In case anyone missed it this morning.

See my response to Boyd further below.

  • Raider O

I disagree about draft position/ value. Why draft him in the 2nd when you can get him in the 3rd or 4th? If you don’t think he will last then take him in the 2nd, but Boyd’s stock had been dropping since the SR Bowl.

are we laughing at this? i mean it was at the kentucky derby. this is the stuff you’re supposed to wear at those weird events…

  • pistolpete9

For heaven’s sake, not Mettenberger. He is not worth a flip……

  • pistolpete9

    Get McCoud………….

  • pistolpete9

    How about Williford at NG??

  • pistolpete9

    Wishful thinking…….

  • pistolpete9

How about end, guard and tackle? Sits on the end of the bench, guards the water bucket, and tackles anyone trying to steal it. If he can…….

  • pistolpete9

Against who? Little league football teams???

  • pistolpete9

I could make us better than last year and I have arthritis in my shoulder and both knees.
