Compensatory picks announced today

As part of its businees at the owners meetings in Orlando, Fla., this week, the NFL released the compensatory picks for the upcoming NFL draft.
Of note, the Raiders got shut out, with 32 picks doled out to 13 teams, with the first of those picks made at the end of the third round.
These picks aren’t randomly assigned. They are handed out as a result of each team’s net loss of free agents from the previous season vs. that team’s net gain of free agents.
So, for instance, the Raiders don’t get credit for losing players such as safety Michael Huff, defensive tackle Tommy Kelly and linebacker Rolando McClain because the Raiders released those players.

We are the Raiders. It’s to be expected.

  • 559 Raider 87

Bortles would be a good investment. He’s not NFL ready yet, but we have the luxury to sit him and let him learn. However, we have some other major holes that need to be filled and great D talent on the board to do so.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Palmer sure did.

  • Return

Smith is damn impressive . His last playoff game made me a big fan of his. He outplayed Luck hands down. I really like his game.

  • Thec

    Triplicate

  • JLofty

I put Swaub and Smith on the same level. Competent mostly. They are different in their competencies however. Smith has his strengths and weaknesses. I think Swaub is a better pure passer….

  • scinfidel

“He can be as good as he wants to be,” said Palmer of Moore. “That catch he made in the long fade was amazing. He ran some great routes. He has great hands. He has everything you need to be a successful receiver. It just depends on how great he wants to be, but I’m excited about him. He’s a special talent and the sky’s the limit for him.”

  • SaintKaufman

    Not possible

  • Thec

Raids will not be taking a QB this draft, and that suits me just right.
Too many holes to fill on developing.

The Reg administration has zero time for development.

    Its win or go home.

  • JLofty

Kelly is a good guy. Some seriously tough luck…

  • DJ Johnny

He was supposed to only last 6 games tops behind that line.
The guy has started 31 of his last 32 games.
He needs weapons just like every other QB.
Schaub will too. James Jones is a good addition. Watkins would give him some ammo to work with.

  • JLofty

Swaub is used to having PRO BOWL even All-Pro level talent surrounding him. We MIGHT have a little of that but don’t get ahead of ourselves….

  • Return

    That was actually really funny.

  • JLofty

I felt bad for the guy in that Queef’s game. That was embarassing…

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Thought you’d appreciate it. Almost didn’t post it ‘cuz of that.

  • JLofty

Carr and Fales are serious toddler hands…

  • JLofty

    Ding ding ding!

  • Goldie7

    new post.

  • Avion Davis

Did Allen sign with the Seahawks yet? If not, I’m thinking he waits till after the draft to sign.

  • aig-raiders

Schaub had much better talent around him than A Smith ever had. I tend to look at how you are doing lately vs what you did in your career. I will only look at career when we talk retirement. A Smith has been trending up and Schaub is trending down badly.

  • JLofty

    Supply is getting thin…

  • DJ Johnny

I like the fact that DA embraces that. He doesn’t shy away from it being a win now year.

  • aig-raiders

I dont think he has a choice.

  • Thec

As he is the leader, he should. I hope the man is successful this year.

  • Thec

    Yep

  • kuhlest

in a perfect world our depth chart will look like this on may 9th…
    WR 1 – Watkins
    WR 2 – Jones
    WR 3 – Moore
    WR 4 – Streeter
    WR 5 – Holmes

Okay, McFadden is coming back…..here are the reasons we now have hope for him:

#1. We have a legit passing threat at QB again
#2. We have a QB who can play under center….no more of that pistol crap
#3. Penn and Howard are supposed to be good run blockers
#4. Another year removed from his Lisfranc injury, McFadden should be healthy…
#5. Olson found the portion of his playbook that has outside runs within it….

That is all I got…..BELIEVE BABY!

  • BigDRaider

Right and no way did I mean to dis this post by calling them Top Indians they are the CHEFS. Pryor too up and down. But somehow I see the guy improving but he wont get the chance here.

  • JLofty

Cannot count that guy down or out. He will come back on a mission…

  • xraided

wrong-o … we need to win this year. hardest schedule in the league…how is that going to help us? we need a double digit sack/TD guy this year…
saying we have the luxury means we are a perenial playoff team with a good starting QB…like cincy or indi … we are not those teams. we need playmakers now.
Watkins, Mack, Clowney or trade down to get another impact #1 WR since DJAX isn’t coming… Schaub needs this to succeed… get into the teens to grab Evans or lee… plus an extra 2nd… those are the moves we need to make.

  • Zymurge

That’s what I’ve been saying for awhile now. None are truly top 5 pick material, but are valued higher because of the position they play and the demand. In this very important draft for the Raiders they need maximum value for their pick and that means no QB with the first rounder.

  • BigDRaider

I agree. But this is it. I want DMC to work bad but the injuries, the line, the no run game no qb game and during the cable years wrong blocking scheme for one year with zone BS. DMC is a power back. We got power lineman and if he can get back to 3 years ago WHEW…but I wont bet that he holds up..I will only Hope.

  • kuhlest

how would you guys (more importantly Schaub) like the following weapons?

    WR- Watkins
    WR- Jones
    WR- Moore
    WR- Streeter
    WR- Holmes
    TE- Rivera
    TE- Ausbury
    RB- McFadden
    RB- Reece
    RB-Murray

  • FourMoreYears

Add in Tre Mason to the RB rotation and I’ll take it.

  • kuhlest

yeah hard to pass on him….I watched several of his games this year, his combine and pro-day…. this guy is a winner, and a go getter!

  • BigDRaider

Its not bad at all. Moore should be ready by now if not he has to bounce. Watkins speedy monster….Streeter consistent possession guy..Holmes on the way up showing promise. Rivera could be a star. Ausberry could allow for double TE as he has good hands not so good routes. DMC might just be Run DMC again. Reece we have not used him correctly he is a nightmare matchup that we have not exploited. But with alot of talent we could sneak him into plays for big gains. Murray nice to have but we also should pick up another runner. Jones is a bonus from the packers in that he is a vet and has been around winning ways.

  • kuhlest

I sure would like to add a nice weapon at TE as Ausbury can’t stay healthy

  • Davy Jones

Like to see another RB and another TE brought in, but that’d about do it.

  • kuhlest

That’s my point……you say that based on what? His play prior to coming here was better than both Plunkett and Gannon. By a lot

  • plunkhead

I am impressed. That is the most positive thing I have heard from you in a dogs age.
You must have McFadden fever again

  • TrevJo

What Plunkett and Gannon did with the Raiders was far better than what Schaub did with the Texans. Most free agents don’t work out so well that the guy performs far beyond what he has done in the past. Plunkett and Gannon were rarities in that sense.

Personally I was also a lot more impressed with what I saw watching Gannon in KC than I was watching Schaub in Houston. I think KC was holding him back in terms of opportunity/coaching/receivers which all improved for Gannon in Oakland, I don’t think you can say that about Houston and Schaub.

  • Thec

Let me figure out how to do that.

  • aig-raiders

Perhaps they take Donald at 13 and trade with ATL for number 2. But I think ATL wants clowney and they will have to trade up with Tex. We know STL will not take a qb for sure. They may go with Watkins to give their QB more weapons.

  • kuhlest

Look……stats and record wise Schaub has had a better career thus far than both Plunkett and Gannon did at this point in their careers (fact) and if you want to be down on the Schaub move then you will probably be down on most moves we do and are only looking for a reason to be a negative Nancy….just saying

  • TrevJo

I’m generally a lot more supportive of Reggie’s moves than most around here, and I’m cool with the Schaub move, I think it makes sense, HOWEVER I don’t think Schaub is going to:
    A. play for us for more than 2-4 years (which means now is as good of a time as any to draft our QB of the future), or

    B. win an MVP or a Super Bowl for us or otherwise do anything with us that is significantly better than what he did in Houston (which means I don’t think hoping for him to have a Plunkett-like or Gannon-like career transformation is realistic.)

If Schaub ends up posting a 90 QB rating and a slightly above .500 winning percentage with us over a few years like he did with Houston that will be good enough to justify the trade (given where we were at pre-trade) but it won’t be enough to justify passing on a good QB in the draft.

  • kuhlest

Agreed if we a chance at one we feel is worth the pick

  • brad

This kind of bull is why I will be watching from home after 13 years of supporting this team. 60 Inch in effect bratwurst and all taste just as good off the grill at home! LOL!
