Report: Jones-Drew visiting Raiders today, Friday

The Raiders scored a direct hit when they signed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Rashad Jennings in free agency. They just might cash in again if a scheduled meeting with former Jaguars veteran running back Maurice Jones-Drew leads to a contract.
Jones-Drew is headed to the Bay Area on Thursday for a visit with the Raiders, according to an NFL.com report.
Jones-Drew, who turned 29 on March 23, spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Jaguars. However, he played his high school football at De La Salle High School and grew up in the Bay Area.
The Raiders already have a plethora of running backs on their roster, including incumbent starter Darren McFadden, promising second-year player Latavius Murray and backups Jeremy Stewart and Kory Sheets.
Jones-Drew is accustomed to being the featured back, as was the case his final five seasons with the Jaguars. From 2009-11, he rushed for 4,321 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also caught 130 passes and appeared in all but two games during that span.
By comparison, McFadden has missed 29 games during his six-year NFL career, and he hasn’t played in more than 13 in any season. Last season, McFadden, 26, played in only 10 games.
Jones-Drew is fresh from his worst showing as an NFL player. He averaged only 3.4 yards rushing, almost a yard fewer than his previous career-low.
Jennings arrived in Oakland with a similar story. He averaged 2.8 in a complementary role in 2012 for the Jaguars. With the Raiders, he averaged 4.5 and resurrected his career.
Jennings parlayed his success with the Raiders into a decent pay day from the New York Giants in free agency. That left the Raiders searching for a veteran backup to McFadden.

    Texans too!

  • BigBenRexor

It’s covered since they’re all Brown Packers in Texas.

  • Raideralex99

It makes sense … Coming off injuries … Reggie will offer you a low ball contract.

  • RaidO

ESPN’s Adam Schefter quoted an unnamed source as saying there is “a good chance” Jones-Drew gets a deal done with Oakland.

  • DutchRaid

JETS? Might be the biggest FA signing? 5 years?

  • als hiemer

Adam shifter is lame. He has no clue he is just looking at our track record of bringing in old hurt players.

  • RaiderCDE

Offer same contract as DMAC. Low guarantee, big incentives..

  • BigBenRexor

That’s typically how it goes when you bring in nothing but old hurt players

  • BigBenRexor

Only one Jet though, had their record been worse last year we might have added more

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Jones-Drew is visiting the Raiders Thursday and Friday, according to sources informed of the Raiders’ situation. Rapoport expects things to move quickly. MJD is from the area, grew up aRaiders fan and still has a house 20 minutes from Oakland. Jones-Drew has played all eight of his NFL seasons in Jacksonville.

  • als hiemer

Well we should at least sign some young hurt players too.

  • RaiderCDE

MJD is a down year had 800 yards rushing – when is the last time DMAC had 800 yards?

Answer: He’s done it *once* in his whole career 2010.

  • RaiderCDE

Maybe have MJD vs DMAC in camp competition. DMAC gets cut before season starts?

  • RaidO

Raiders definitely need another RB… can’t count on DMAC

  • 0ak R8rs

@RapSheet: Vince Wilfork’s new deal is for 3 years, averaging $7.5M per year. So, 3 years, $22.5M. $3M is guaranteed.

So I scroll to the bottom of the page there is links to the previous two threads and one comment each reflecting on them, one from Rick Worth saying F Veldheer, and one from FourMoreYears telling us to not miss our period.
Really pulled a couple of gems there BANG

  • Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

    Typical.

  • RaidO

Yeah Raiders still need a DT

  • BigBenRexor

Pretty soon Fat Sims will have no where to go, and then Reggie will swoop in like the mighty vulture

  • Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

    They have mulytple needs.

  • 0ak R8rs

    That’s awesome. Way to represent.

  • als hiemer

Where the hell is sims? We should resign him before he ends up gone

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

I don’t think MJD is an upgrade over Jennings, especially considering ST, as crazy as that might have sounded 9 months ago.

  • marks hair

    Can we cut McPantywaist now?

  • BigBenRexor

Not until McMoron seals the deal with MJD.

  • als hiemer

Surprised Sims hasn’t found a home. He played better than walker and he got swooped up pretty quick.

  • RaidO

Besides Pat Sims there are only like 4 DT FA available, They are all average and 32+ years old.. Not good….Looks they are drafting a DT

  • Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

Some might see it as a curious development, in that the Raiders’ current
biggest needs are on the interior of the defensive line and at
    cornerback.

    FIRE REGGIE NOW.

  • BigBenRexor

Reggie’s not going to sign Sims until he’s absolutely sure that no one else in the League wants him. #DueDiligence

  • als hiemer

What happened to will smith? The guy from new Orleans not the one from the early nineties!

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Maybe we just go with a “Nascar” package on D-line like Seattle and have 4-5 DE/OLB up front.
    Worked great against Denver.

  • Myopinion

Mjd seems like the equal of Jennings, unless mjd gets his speed back. And I don’t remember but didn’t Jennings get taken off special teams once he became our main rb?

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Be it resolved: If Reggie had signed Andre Brown, Hunter would be slamming him and saying “Why didn’t Reggie sign MJD instead?”

    Agree or disagree?

  • marks hair

That’s the plan.. maybe one dt

  • RaidO

Mike Patterson at DT..would be ok,.. Not much choice..

  • Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

    i like andre.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    How about.
    “What took so long??”
    FIRE REGGIE NOW

  • als hiemer

Maybe will smith from the nineties would be cheap to sign too! He would have to get hurt first though!

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Only because Reggie didn’t sign him. If Reggie had signed him, you’d hate Andre Brown with the heat of a thousand suns.

  • DutchRaid

True, only that concerns me with Jennings was the number of concussions. 3 last year? Could be smoking the crack here…

  • Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

    maybe reggie will.

  • BigBenRexor

Good question. He’s 32 comming off a major Injury, what’s taking so long Reggie?

  • Myopinion

I know torell troup had a bad back injury. Wonder if he’s fully healthy now, cause I know he was a high first or second round draft pick for the bills a few years ago. And was supposed to be real good.

  • jesusraiderjim

Plus he has that little do hickey thing that makes people forget shvt. So when we run the same screen pass 23 times the other team may forget about it.

  • TrojansAndRaiders

I think the plan at DT is to let Bilukidi play this year.

  • Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

    he is a bum.

  • J Hill

    Didn’t we cut him?

  • RaiderCDE

Biggest need is the Raiders need more *hitters* in the back 7. Tired of this drag tackling bs – one of the reasons guys are getting hurt – and getting run over. Way too soft and teams know it. The reason Seattle beat Denver is because they beat up Denver.
