Schaub trade linked to reworked contract

As expected, the Raiders trade for quarterback Matt Schaub came about only after Schaub agreed to a restructured contract that lessened the financial liability for the Raiders.
Schaub, 32, was slated to earn $10 million in base salary in 2014, $12.5 million in ’15 and $14.5 million in ’16 under terms of the contract extension he signed with the Houston Texans in 2012.
The USA Today reported that Schaub’s reworked contract calls for him to earn only $8 million next season – a $3.5 million roster bonus due in April and a $4.5 million fully guaranteed base salary.
Schaub’s base salary jumps to $5.5 million In 2015, according to the report, but his overall payout is $8 million less than what he was slated to make overall under his Texans contract.
Also, the final year of Schaub’s old deal was deleted.
Schaub is the Raiders unquestioned starter for 2014 based on comments made by general manager Reggie McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen.
If he plays well enough, Schaub has the potential to earn an additional $6 million — $3 million this season and $3 million in ’15 — through incentives based upon playing time and statistics.

Shaub makes out very well in this deal. Certainly better than his Houston deal last 3 years. he gets big up front money his first year. If he does well forget what the contract says he will get the 2nd year. They will extend it to better money.

  • Return

Correct. From what I read there was no more guaranteed money. Shaub has already collected that.

  • You don’t think they know what’s going on with us , stop being daft

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Does or does not everybody believe that if Reggie had signed Andre Brown, Hunter would be slamming him and saying “Why didn’t he sign MJD instead?”

  • Davy Jones

Unlike the people on this blog, they talk to people who actually know what’s going on behind closed doors.

    WORN DOWN………….

  • mikeschoice

Reggie is staying and mark is renewing contract. You didn’t know mark is happy. With reggie and so is Madden “the godfather”.

  • RediaR

RBs also have a short shelf life, especially after a lis franc.

  • TrevJo

I’m pretty sure that’s not true. His contract at that point simply called for a $10M base salary and $1M roster bonus. It’s possible for base salary to be guaranteed but considering he signed that contract in 2012 (maybe even 2009?) it’s very unlikely the 2014 base salary was guaranteed.

  • TrevJo

It’s not guaranteed when making the roster. Base salary is paid out in 1/17ths increments each week of the regular season. If he were to get hurt and cut in week 4 like Flynn he’d have only seen about 2.5M of that $10M.

  • TrevJo

By the way, I’m not saying this isn’t a good move by Reggie. This is a GREAT move by Reggie. I love this restructure and you almost never see restructures like this that are beneficial to the team both in the short term AND in the long term.

Just telling it like it is… Schaub went from no guaranteed money to some guaranteed money… that’s the only benefit to him in the new contract vs the old one.

  • mikeschoice

Yeh another smack down on reggie haters. Another post about his horrible negotiating skills.
    Read it and weap

Then why do I have to be Mistic (and I am not) and by extension a racist just because I criticize JM’s game?

Uh, we are who we are. . .my background is in communications. .

There are many on this blog who don’t correctly or effectively articulate, leaving the possibility for communication breakdowns. .

Your little opinion in no, way shape or form will deter my efforts or my prose.

Sorry; no pretty little pictures for you. . .move along. . .. .
