Jones-Drew passes physical, signs contract with Raiders; Sims re-signs

Running back Maurice Jones-Drew passed a physical Friday morning, and he signed a three-year contract with the Raiders a short time later.
Jones-Drew returns to the Bay Area, where he grew up and starred for De La Salle High School, after spending his first eight NFL seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
A conference call with Jones-Drew likely will take place this afternoon. Several of his new teammates Tweeted about their excitement over Jones-Drew joining a Raiders roster that bears little resemblance from last season.
With the Raiders, Jones-Drew is expected to compete for playing time, if not the starting job, against the likes of Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray.
Jones-Drew, 29, led the league in rushing in 1,606 yards. A foot injury cut short his 2012 season. Last season, he averaged a career-worst 3.4 yards rushing.
In other news, defensive tackle Pat Sims re-signed with the Raiders, according to a Tweet from Sims’ agent.
Sims, 28, started all 16 games for the Raiders last season and anchored their defensive line. He is expected to team with recent acquisition Antonio Smith and holdover Stacy McGee to lock down the interior of the Raiders line this season.

  • you say that, but players have torn apart locker rooms before. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, simply posing the question… should we be worried about it?
Also, the gang rumor (and yes, it’s just that right now, but rumors start somewhere) concerns me a bit.

  • He still got 19.5 million for 2 years I believe.
    Not bad.

@LeviDamien: #Raiders Maurice Jones-Drew calls out bandwagon #49ers fans “Pick a team and stay with them” http://t.co/kLPtDwed2P

    Already luv the guy.

  • Well they cut him, so whether you buy it or not, the Eagles didn’t feel he was worth whatever headache they felt he created.

WTF!!!!! Adam Shefter is reporting that the Raiders are trading Darren McFadden to Miami for WR Mike Wallace. Details coming soon.

  • JV.

Don’t mess with the Raider Gang!!!

Nah, just smarter than that 😉

Nothing overrated about Jackson’s whining…even during great times.
Don’t need him or his attitude here. Talent yes. Piss-poor attitude, NO.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Oh. There’s a new post, nonetheless.

  • RaidingTexas

Hasn’t every player in the draft been shut down, marginalized, etc in at least one game? I’m sure we could dig up games where Peyton was not so great at Tennessee. This really is a weak and oft-used argument against drafting a player.

  • AlDavisJr

McGloin would play well behind that line. I think he will be a very good backup QB and someday start for some NFL team.

  • Avion Davis

I saw him play hurt in quite few games. I never saw him quit.

  • HayesDaze37

    Hello, Vegas.
Mike Evans is good. I don’t know if he’s got the goods to be great at this level, though. An awful lot of his plays were made in scramble/ad-lib mode. Things are a lot more structured up here, than in Manziel Land.
    Good call on Gaines.

  • Avion Davis

I remember him being injured in 2012 for a couple of games because I had him on my fantasy team. How exactly did he tank? If I recall correctly the whole team underperformed. That is directly related to the coaching staff.

  • FourMoreYears

He’ll love it here, bandwagon tipped over 12 years ago.

  • Ian

Yes and no. I think half of the problem when there is a problem in the locker room is that media blows things out of proportion, creating a bigger problem subsequently.

  • the super genius dr robert

@SportsCenter: Eagles decided to release DeSean Jackson for number of reasons, due mostly to “work ethic and attitude” NFL source tells Sal Paolantonio.

    That’s the guy we want?

  • Ian

lol. Did you watch Terrelle Pryor last year?

Anyways ad-libbing in the NFL is super important IDK what ur talking about.

  • Ian

    This is an epic post

  • Ian

Well we’ve never seen a decline in production on the field due to his work ethic so that’s not a problem.

Although the attitude part is problematic, maybe his boy M. Reece can mentor him if he comes here? I think the decision by the Eagles to release him is more political than anything, with the news of potential gang ties coming out. The Eagles don’t want any part in that mess.

With the addition of James Jones I think we have an above-average wide receiving corps right now, and I’m not too comfortable with Schaub slinging it all over the field. I’d rather focus more on our run game, thus Desean’s value (to me) is somewhat diminished attitude notwithstanding.

  • marks hair

    Sims is back.. nice
    That’s a legit front 4.

  • Gdog

Maybe not if we are looking to win a SB. We are simply trying to get back to respectability. He might help!

Whats the worst thing that happens? We miss the playoffs?

    Desperate times = desperate actions…

  • Howard Benner

Seems more than likely. . .I have to agree with the masses & declare he isn’t the type of player you want in the lockerroom. . .

But let’s not let this story overshadow the return of MJD & Sims coming back into the fold. . .I have to think after the Raiders draft a De (trade down could net Kony ealy & Shamar Stephens, DT from UConn. they could sit & learn behind the vet FA’s & either contribute as the season progresses or become starters next year. Either way they have great role models playing ahead of them.More theories on this subject but I’ll wait until later. . time to exhale. . .

Just got back from a “Gene Kelly (except I was running/walking) ;” nine miles. . .not quite monsoon conditions, but I only saw one more committed (or we need to be committed) soul along the way. . .

  • Howard Benner

Vets all along the front line. IF Stacy McGee becomes the player the coaches project the rotation @ DT is potentially formidable. . .if they can get another DE then Tuck kicks inside with Smith on passing downs & the pass rush potentially is better than average. . .still a bit of a journey remains @ the DE position. .& CB. . .

  • Howard Benner

    C’mon, man! No mirage shyte!

The fins just signed Knowshon Moreno. . what would they need with DMC. . .

  • Maoey Wowie

good resign of Pat sims, surprised he didn’t attract that much attention elsewhere. he was a beast in the last few games! love how this offseason is turning out. please sign Desean and draft defense and o-line!

  • Maoey Wowie

hey do u live in sunnyvale, i was listening to 95.7 yesterday and a Dr. Robert from sunnyvale called in about the Raiders haha
