Raiders have the need, money to sign WR Jackson

The release of DeSean Jackson by the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday gives the Raiders a rare opportunity to secure a No. 1 wide receiver in free agency. It just so happens that the Raiders have the money to make it happen, too.
Despite a flurry of free-agency acquisitions and a trade for starting quarterback Matt Schaub within the past three weeks, the Raiders still have plenty of salary-cap room to pay Jackson the kind of money he is going to command, both up front and long-term.
Jackson, 27, is durable, productive and fast. He’s also a proven lead receiver, something the Raiders have lacked since Tim Brown retired.
The Raiders signed veteran receiver James Jones earlier this month. However, he is more of a complementary receiver. The same holds true for the Raiders other receivers under contract – Denarius Moore, Rod Streater and Andre Holmes, et al.
Jackson, who starred at Cal, was released in his prime, without a reason given by the Eagles. A story by NJ.com Friday that said the final straw for the Eagles was Jackson’s tied with gang members.
In an Instagram post shortly after his release, Jackson said: “Steady grind mode. God got the plan, not me!” The post showed Jackson sprinting on a track.
Jackson set career-highs with 82 receptions and 1,332 yards last season. He also tied his career-best with nine touchdowns.

Guys, DJ is a beast on the field, second to none. The question is are his off field activities impacting him or his team ? Not to long ago we drafted a highly rated linebacker, I was happy with the pick…Can anybody say Rolondo?. With hind sight being 20/20 we didn’t to the background check and his off field associations wrecked his career and Raider fans got stiffed…Buyer beware with DJ.

I will say that his jersey sales would go through the roof!

DeSean Jackson, Sammy Watkins and Austin Sefarian- Jenkins would completely transform the Raiders

What if Mark and Reggie decide to sign D Jack and than take Manziel at 5
or in a trade down scenario? Tell you one thing…if this team were to
draft Manziel….after the signing of MJD and D Jack. It
would create some big time and much needed excitement within Raider Nation and season ticket sales would increase like crazy!

  • DKnight007

Don’t see it….especially with a deep WR class. It would be the fast pass rusher Mack or dare I say Manziel?

DJ and Watkins are the same player… better move to pick up Evans at WR. Big possession receiver that would cause all kinds of matchup problems.
