Report: Raiders, Jones-Drew reach agreement on contract

The Raiders and veteran running back Maurice Jones-Drew agreed to terms on a three-year contract Friday pending a physical, according to an ESPN report.
Jones-Drew, 29, spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His best season came in 2011, when he led the league with 1,606 yards rushing.
He struggled through the worst season of his NFL career in 2013, when he finished with a 3.4-yard average rushing.
Jones-Drew graduated from De La Salle High School and grew up in the Bay Area. Now it appears as if he will get an opportunity to resurrect his career in front of friends and family.
It’s unclear how the Raiders intend to use Jones-Drew. They re-signed Darren McFadden to a one-year contract at the start of free agency. McFadden has been the Raiders lead back when healthy for most of his six-year NFL career.
Just the same, McFadden also is seeking to prove that he still merits consideration as a starting back. He averaged 3.3 yards rushing each of the past two seasons.
The Raiders also have Latavius Murray, Jeremy Stewart and Kory Sheets on their roster as options at running back.

    Do let me understand.

Oakland is losing young black men at a rate of about one per day.

So we wanna bring in a guy flaunting his gang associations?

  • He hasn’t been in the “inner city” for 10 years. And has been a millionaire three time zones away for the last 5 or 6.
Pretty easy to cut ties if you wanted to.

  • Return

Luck is not the best prospect ever. He can’t hold Newton’s or Wilson’, or Kap jock. He’s not winning a SB until he learns to tell the other teams’ jerseys from his own and stop throwing to them. Luck is a very good qb but he is nowhere near the top echelon qbs. Brady and Peyton are hand’s down the best (Brady the absolute best). Next is Eli, Brees, Newton, Wilson, Kap, Big Ben. Luck would enter on the third tier of qbs. Kap kicks Luck’s azz every time, any day all day. The numbers and SB appearances says I’m right.

    I know…. Shocking!

  • Goldie7

We could sign DJax, and ask Bill Bellicheat what to do with him.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Maybe, yes, but the stadium would quickly become the cesspool it was at the LA Coliseum, no matter how new it was, and middle class folk with kids (hint: in order to market your franchise, you must get the kids who grow up to have money to spend) would stop coming, and back to square one.
It’s the gangs and the overall demographics. Once the team attracts that faction, corporate America will drop their association with you, rightfully so, protecting their brand.

  • 8raiderreign8

    He doesn’t

  • the super genius dr robert

Son: “Dad. Our WR just scored a TD!”
    Dad: “Yes he did!”
Son: “What’s he doing with his hands?”
Dad: “Well son. That’s called flashing a gang sign.”
Son: “Why would he do that?”
Dad: “Well son. That’s what gangsters do when they wanna represent their set .”
Son: “Oh cool. I wanna do that.”

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

So, let him be Cincy’s problem.

  • inonewordraider

  • spiff

Hopefully Reggie is one of them.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Might still be gangsta. Might be reaching out, trying to help without media fanfare.

YUPP… great post…goes to show you how idiotic BSPN is

  • DKnight007

What if Mark and Reggie decide to take Johnny M at 5 or in a trade down scenario? Tell you one thing…if this team were to draft Manziel….it would create some much needed excitement within Raider Nation and season ticket sales would increase.

  • hwnrdr

MJD is now official…3 yr contract

  • Just Win Baby

Jonathan Stewart is still on the roster too.

If you noticed this year most of the highest echelon FA’s were either franchised or resigned with their teams.

also; look @ the list of this year’s FA’s. most have sustained pretty major injuries over their careers. Veld, Alberts, Monroe. . .all have injury marred pasts. . .Ware, Melton, Tuck, Woodley, Revis, Talib. . .

The only FA from this class that has avoided that fate is Allen, & he is 31.

The list you provided is practically unscathed. Plus, as I painstakingly indicated they are all either elite or in the case of Aldon Smith carry off the field baggage that could deter serious consideration. . .

If the list you provided continue in their development & survive the 2014 season bereft of injury I don’t expect ANY of them to become FA’s. . .

So when you endeavor to make a point state your point. . otherwise you leave your “point” wide open for speculation. . .

And I prey on those opportunities. .never know who requires schooling.

It was like those who thought Hardy would become available on the FA market. some of them thought he was a malingerer (drafted in the 6th round) & also thought he was the product of a contract push. . .the real, ardent followers of pro football knew he would never hit the open market.

The same applies to Demarcus Ware. Most knew his contract would be considered burdensome & accompanied with his recent injury history would merit his release. . .most of us felt Brian Orakpo would be franchised by the Deadskins. . .so we were able to decipher the market & realized the accompanying market would be less than stellar. I am now on record that next year will be more of the same.

Oh, & if any of the candidates you list are injured they will probably go the way of Jeremy maclkin, who opted to sign a “make do” one year deal with his parent club. . .

Was Cooper openly involved with Aryan Nation. . .

    That is a weak analogy @ best. . .

Coop make Aryan signs in an opponent’s face? Wearing of swastikas?

    That’s overly sensitive. . .c’mon, man!

Not condoning what coop did; he might be a closet redneck. . .his actions coulda split the Eagles lockerroom. . .but didn’t. . .he was repentant. . .as he should have been. . .

No picw of coop with Aryan Nation. . .or alleged killers. . .

  • Howard Benner

Beast Mode, A-Rod, Alex Mack, Cameron Jordan, Tyson Alulal, Keenan Allen, Marvin Jones, Mychal Kendricks, Shane Vereen, the retired (concussions) Javid Best, Brian De Lepuente, & retirees Tony Gonzalez & Nnamdi Asomugha. . .oh, Thomas Decoud. . .

BTW; I attended Cal around the time of Wesley Walker,Joe Roth (goodness rest his soul; what a giving person!) & Chuck Muncie. . .

There’s as much upper echelon Cal talent (until the past two years) than any “cerebral” program not named Notre Dame. . .

  • Raiderfan4life

I agree. I’m just disappointed with RM’s decision making in acquiring players…I was Ok with his Ron Wolf pedigree, good with the hiring, good with the restructuring of the player personnel office, good with shedding inflated contracts…And then came the 2013 draft, we bombed, giving to much for Flynn, a flop, and then the lack of retaining our core young players, we bombed again Some of the free agent acquisitions are questionable given age and recent injuries….I’m a life long Raider fan and want to wear my jersy and enjoy a winning record at the same time like the old days….

  • Raiderfan4life

I hope that you’re right. Jennings 4.5 yards a carry (how about the 80 yard run) and his forward running authority was a welcome sight. During his tenure as a starter he was among the leagues leading rushers. He proved to me on the field that he was worth a contract…now we have to hope that someone unproven can step up…I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

  • JonGrand

I meant 2 to 3 more years. His first year he barely had any draft picks.

  • Que

its interesting how many are sold on he’s what we would need. We need the best player available and the best Qb later. Long term partner
