Raiders going for clean sweep of 49ers starting cornerbacks

The Raiders already snared one of the 49ers incumbent starting cornerbacks in free agency. Now they are going after the other one when they meet with Carlos Rogers today, according to an ESPN report.
The Raiders signed cornerback Tarell Brown on March 14 as a potential replacement for departed starters Mike Jenkins and Tracy Porter. Adding Rogers to the mix would give the Raiders yet another viable option, along with second-year player D.J. Hayden.
Rogers, who turns 33 on July 2, started all 48 regular-season games for the 49ers the past three seasons. He has started all but 10 of the games he played during his first nine NFL seasons, the first six with the Washington Redskins.
The 49ers wanted to retain Rogers, but they weren’t willing to keep him around in 2014 at such a prohibitive salary. Rogers was slated to earn $6.6 million in base salary and bonuses.
Releasing Rogers saved the 49ers $5.1 million in salary-cap room. The Raiders still have plenty of salary-cap room despite a massive spending spree the past three weeks.
Rogers is the kind of versatile player the Raiders could use. He has the ability to play outside or in the slot and he excels in any kind of coverage.

    About time my Friend Corky

  • funnyfalcon

? I don’t think any of the 49er CBs signed could touch Nnamdi in his prime.

  • Freakyguy666

About a dozen. Not one signed with Raiders.

    And neither will DJax.

  • http://thebadtenants.com/ eternal pessimist

Pessimism show down. tomorrow. after school on the playground. tell everybody! hahaha

  • Freakyguy666

Why “grossly over paid”? Are you implying RM is inept at striking a bargain? If so, you just made my case.

    Fire Reggie!

    Thank you!

Four of those players are still on the team, and one of the other players hasn’t done jack squat since his rookie season… You sir are jumping the gun. Go back to the starting line.

  • Freakyguy666

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “While Reggie McKenzie has hesitated to pull the trigger, Woodson thinks that Al Davis would have immediately signed Jackson.”

    That says it all.

    FIRE REGGIE!!

  • kelley

With D jax, I count 6 and only 3 changed teams, not really that many probowlers sitting there

  • MEX_GHOST

Yeah I know you’ll be in the optimistic ship just after the sign of DJax deal. LOL.

  • kelley

And look what that got the Raiders, one Afc championship and a sb loss, in the past 30 years.

  • kelley

I love what Al was all about, he made the Raiders!!! But he lost his fastball many years ago

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Oh you weren’t at all. Not recognizing ‘it’ and suspecting a ‘challenge’ might be involved(not on our end) we were treading lightly. No point any longer though.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Did a lot of work on a ladies house a few blocks from Crenshaw and Adams. Early on I went to the liquor store nearby wearing the ripped off sleeve of my T shirt as a sweatband. Blue. Not subtle blue or kind of blue. Blue blue. I was advised I might not want to do that before I left the store.

  • R8drTahoe in SF

Hahaha… Al would have traded the first round pick for him…would’ve made JV and LH the highest paid at their position… And all of the scrubs would still be here, DHB Rolo Huff etc… You want a return to the old ways?

  • Howard Benner

Of course Al would have had to “redo” many deals to free up the cap space to make it happen, further mortgaging the future.

Heck, He may have had to trade draft choices so as to avoid having to play prospective incoming rookies, further stifiling growth of the Raiders going into the future. . .

The cap space is now there due to the purging of “toxic” Al contracts. . .

  • Howard Benner

He’ll sign with the Deadskins on Tuesday. . . # SOL watch is on. . .

  • Howard Benner

Did Chappelle ever recover from his “meltdown?”

When you think everybody is out to get you paranoia is just good, common sense. . .

  • BigDRaider

I like Moore but for all his inconsistent play has he had a consistent QB?. A consistent blocking line?. A consistent running game to take the heat off? I think not. Give him another shot just like DMC this is a no excuses year and the cream may rise to the top. RAIDERS IN THE PLAYOFFS 2014!!!!

  • Ronin559

I have much love and respect for Al, but Al had also immediately signed Javon Walker and over ruled coaches and scouts to draft Jamarcus Russell instead of Calvin Johnson.
