Raiders lock up another valuable backup

Running back Jeremy Stewart on Wednesday signed a one-year contract with the Raiders that keeps him in a silver-and-black uniform for a third straight season.
Stewart appeared in 17 games for the Raiders during his first two seasons in Oakland. He played mostly special teams, though he also touched the ball 37 times as a backup to Darren McFadden.
The one-year contract was tendered Stewart by the Raiders in advance of free agency, which started March. 11. Stewart is the third of Oakland’s six exclusive-rights free agents to sign a one-year tender.
Offensive tackle Matt McCants, linebacker Kaelin Burnett and cornerback Chimdi Chekwa still haven’t signed their tenders, though all are expected to do so because they lack the four years’ experience required of players to field offers from other teams as unrestricted free agents.
McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew are expected to compete for the starting spot at running back next season. Stewart is among several candidates for backup spots.

Here lies Lester Moore four slugs from a 44 NO LES NO MORE

  • 0ak R8rs

Schaub was the 8th ranked QB over the last 5 years. Including last year. He’s gonna be fine. But the running game has to support him.

  • 0ak R8rs

Sigh. Veldheer didn’t wanna be here. Had a deal in place w AZ for a week before Day 1. He never wanted to be here.

  • Davy Jones

That’s a big “but”. Like a Jamarcus Russell butt sized “but”

  • inonewordraider

semi pro’s, give me an example of a qb completely imploding as bad as schaub did last year then regaining form the next year? I heard warner but was he every really that bad?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Wanted to be with good QB. One worth the effort.

  • RaidO

“The big drawback is the signings are short-term fixes without any apparent long-range vision. Most of the players are on at least their third NFL contract, have injury concerns, were unwanted by their former teams or are considered declining players. ”

Win now uh? If it’s win now not a very impressive roster..

  • 0ak R8rs

Well not really. Most QBs need a decent running game. Rodgers and a few others being the exception. Schaub is a game manager. He needs to stay on schedule. Not saying we need to snap off 80 runs every other possession. Just 4 or 5 yards a carry. Stay on schedule and Schaub will be fine. Like most QBs.

  • NYCRaider

    best gamble available though

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    He was bagging groceries.

  • SR Raider

Putting my hopes on a rookie or McGloin. Expect Schaub to be 3-5 at midseason and one of the younger guys to take over after that

  • Lowdown_in_Beijing

C’mon Reg Draft 3 DEs, 3 DTs, and 3 Wrs and damn their eyes!!!

  • 0ak R8rs

Then why did he go to AZ? They don’t have a QB that’s ever won anything in this league. He has no idea what it takes to win because he’s never done it.

  • Howard Benner

Based on your statistically laced comment one would find it difficult to decipher that assessment. . .

Besides, last I heard injuries are part of sports. . .

  • RaidO

The talk is “win now” and most are shooting for 8-8. LOL. The definition of “win now” is a little twisted. .. It’s more like Reggie and DA “try to save our jobs NOW”

  • IVRaider

In 2002 for the Rams Warner played 7 games, threw for 1,431 yards with 3 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Plus 7 fumbles.

  • IVRaider
  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    That’s pretty bad.

  • Lowdown_in_Beijing

If both goals are viewed as being mutually exclusive, yes, this is one way to see it.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

More to the point. Was Warner ever as good as Shaub?

  • RaidO

Warner was a Super bowl winning QB. No comparison

  • IVRaider

From 02-04 he threw 10 TDs and 16 INTs.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Dammit! Just give Pryor a chance!

  • IVRaider
  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Almost as bad as Shaub last year.

  • RaidO

“Matt Schaub sets NFL record with pick six in fourth straight game”

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Why LOL?

  • Kamikaze_Sensei

Because win now is usually reserved for playoff teams trying to go for a super bowl win, not for a team to break even.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Palmer may break that record next year.

  • Goldie7

    new post.

Ive gotten my hopes up too many times in the last however many years when it comes to the draft…. All these players that are concensus top 5 picks, Reggie McK will probably try to show everyone that he “out smarted” them all by drafting the 3rd ranked safety in at #5 overall. Eugh.

  • Return

    Yep

  • Return

How is Pryor worse for the receivers when he has a better completion percentage than MM?

  • Return

They may have LOOKED better but did they produce better. I think Pryor threw for more yardage.

  • Gregg Brennan

Pryor had a chance last year….and he can’t make plays with his arm. He only made plays with his legs until other teams noted that he would invariably roll to his right when he was going to run. While I admire his work ethic and drive to improve, he’s not an NFL QB.

  • http://thebadtenants.com/ eternal pessimist

And zac Stacy is the starting QB for who?

  • funnyfalcon

This is my concern too. So far, he’s done a grade ‘C’, bordering on ‘B-’. I was hoping he’d go defense when he made the Saffold deal and I lost my cool a little, but then Reggie rallied and pulled some decent FA signings on D.

I’m not sold on Schaub, but maybe he does have a chip on his shoulder instead of a collection of pick 6s in his quiver? I’ll support him either way. I’m willing to get fooled again… stop losing already, Raiders!

  • funnyfalcon

I think of these signings as soldering irons, to cauterize the wounds and stop the bleeding while the team develops some notoriety as an up and comer. This also hopefully changes the Raider franchise MO.

  • Que

I never reply to you but I think I know who this is and its Really disrespectful for another african american to make fun of another especially in public. Have some pride brau. Thats a brotha whose paid his dues and took on a job that wasnt ideal for first time job. His name is Reggie McKenzie and he’s a raider!

  • OhioRaider

What this is here, Howard, as is plainly evident by your “objective” post, is a rational free zone. And you’re the poster boy.

  • Howard Benner

Which means you have nothing to add. . .

No discernable response. . .accompanied by a cacophony oc the acorementioned “crickets. . .”

Break out the “Kleenex” concession. . .just for you. . .

  • Nick Gancayco

Yea i like mack too if we stay at 5. I like his versatility. I also hope jommy ward drops to us in the 2nd. Fs is an important position in the nfl now

  • Reggies Freckled Face

Umm, for your info im not African American. And your argument is lame…Jamarcus Russel is African American and he too was a Raider, that doesn’t mean I have to like it. I am a Raider fan, race has nothing to do with it. I have a every right to be skeptical when it comes to Raider draft choices….do you want me to list all the terrible draft choices in recent drafts? Race has nothing to do with it. Stop playing the race card, that line of thinking is tired and old.

  • Que

Race has Everything to do with calling a Man outside of his name! I know one thing, you sure wouldn’t be big and bad out from behind that pc! And when people Hold Another to Higher standards than they hold people of there Own race! Thats Racism

  • Reggies Freckled Face

I have no clue what you are talking about. My post has nothing to do with race. You are the only one playing the race card. And now you are talking about being big and bad from behind a pc??? You are completely off your rocker. You need to seek out a mental health help center. ASAP.

  • Reggies Freckled Face

All your replies to this post, turning a simple post about bad draft picks into a race thing… The only thing you have done is exposed yourself as an insecure and uneducated individual. You claim racism and now you try to imply that Im only big and bad behind a pc… Seriously? You want to fight about it? In person? What, are you like 12 years old or something?
