Raiders sign local punter

The Raiders signed punter Daniel Zychlinski on Friday in a move designed to give incumbent Marquette King a break during offseason workouts and the Raiders insurance in case King gets injured.
King replaced Shane Lechler last season and showed that he has the ability to be a fixture for years to come.
Zychlinski, who played at Stanford from 2008-12, gets an opportunity to learn from King and perhaps get his work on videotape for other teams to see in case they need a punter at some point before or during the season.
Zychinski averaged 42.2 yards during his collegiate career. His 43.1 average his final season was the fifth-best total in Stanford history.

in the era of big rookie contracts these guys may fall that low….but now with the rookie wage scale a team can pick him in the first and not have as much pressure to start…..the big 4 will all go in the first round

  • 0tt0

yeah…the actual numbers dont means much but a blogger making up some crap about footwork and saying the guy cant learn that means much more

  • r8ter4evr

Think Fran Tarkenton with the cockiness of Brett Favre
    Hail Johnny

  • Jon Train

I gotta say.. this video just convinced me. We gotta draft this guy. Maybe we can trade down a bit later in the 1st and take him. I dunno. But i love the way he goes and gets the ball. Mike Evans I think his name is.

  • irjonny

i like how when arguing about which QB will make it or won’t everyone figures what they saw in college is what they will put on an NFL field. nothing could be further from the truth. you put a QB on your board considering his achievements and football performance i.e mechanics, accuracy blah….you move him up or down considering how you can mold that player to your system. there are zero college QBs that will translate to the NFL without a lot of coaching…..zero.

  • irjonny

seriously though, evans is a baller

  • RediaR

    Top of my A&M board.

  • irjonny

if it weren’t for sammy’s big bowl game, evans is first WR off the board

  • r8ter4evr

You have to understand that THE GREAT QB’s all have this strength, the ability to improvise and make something out of nothing on a routine basis. Johnny clearly does this very well

  • Ron69

It doesnt mean much, Bortles is not in the same class as a passer as Manziel, but he will be the first chosen, intangibles are more important at the pro level, Manziel has many questions marks, obviously his height doesnt help him, account his off field issues, and poor readings and we have a second rounder.

  • RediaR

Maybe Manziel will make it work. I just think it is far from a lock like many constantly harp.

  • r8ter4evr

True some QB’s develop skills then there’s guys like Johnny that were born to be one

  • irjonny

sammy and evans have to be considered equals in this draft. evans has height/weight, sammy is all elite talent. not a lot of difference even in those categories. really to me its choose which type of WR you want rather than one being better

  • 0tt0

no such think as a lock

  • irjonny

the QB comparisons in here are so ridiculous. its not who fits the NFL the best, it’s who fits the Raiders the best.

  • 0tt0

that is the best video of manziel from a passing perspective……many of the other clips are only running the ball……it may not be fair to carr but all i can think about is his brothers dink-n-dunk passing game

  • RediaR

Yeah, I don’t mean a complete lock. I mean it as much of a lock as any prospect can be. He is on such a high pedestal for some.

  • RediaR

Kinda goes hand in hand though.

  • 0tt0

well…we have to have a franchise QB….schaub is not that guy…..i wouldnt care if we selected a QB in every damn round…the QBs in the playoffs seem to be there every year…we need one of those guys

  • 0tt0

which coaching staff…this years or next years?

  • irjonny

playcalling in college to me isn’t a valid concern. if he was unable to execute said plays then yes. Carr’s only downfall imo is his footwork, which isn’t horrible. guy is best overall QB to me when considering he will sit a year, and that has to be considered when comparing these guys…..no one will start in 2014 (unless they pull a russell wilson of course). Mcgloin is our #2

Manziel meeting with Raiders today, Monday

    New post.

    New JOHNNY POST

  • irjonny

a valid concern for fans, not a valid concern for the guys making the picks

Did Shuler fail because he couldn’t call protections out?
He failed because he was a weenie.

  • Ted Stosterone

I’d be fine with JFB. He’s got skills. I have a very hard time imagining RM drafting him though. Instant QB controversy. They went out and got Schaub, but his first pick six will have fans chanting “Johnny, Johnny.” I think the Schaub pickup means RM trades means no QB drafted until RD 3.

  • R8erEduc8er

I’m not a Manziel fan for a couple reasons but one of the reasons that some won’t take seriously is the hype factor. The guy is gonna come into the NFL riding this hype bubble and his head will be above the clouds. He’s gonna get humbled very quickly ala RG3. He’s gonna meet the fork in the road very early.

    A Murray, rd 3 or 4.

  • 0tt0

thats my fear…..it certainly looks like reggie changed gears and is looking for immediate help rather then a longer term view he told us all to be patient for….in an effort to save his job reggie passes on future franchise QB

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

No offense, but that is bat shat crazy.

  • 0tt0

or if schaub pulls a ..well…schaub

  • 0tt0

i hardly think mccloin is a lock to be #2

  • 0tt0

well….everything you said manziel dont do….he did in that video…so what we have is a blogger making sht up….would have never guessed

  • 0tt0

we could use a little hype in oakland….may even get a game televised a bit more often

  • Jon Train

Actually no again. Look at the giant pocket and the ridiculous amount of time.

  • Jon Train

Point is still moot. Stop moving the goalposts

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

I know this: I just hope he goes to the NFC if we don’t get him, no matter how I feel about taking him.

  • Zymurge

98% of Manning’s “improvisation” happens before the ball is snapped. If you can out think the defense, and know where everyone is going to to automatically find oyur quick outs, there’s little need for improvisation.

  • Nick Gancayco

Didnt ge have like 3 sacks against ohio st. ? Yea i agree and i dont know about sdsu. But baylor’s offense doesnt allow for guys like mack to make a huge impact because its spread get the ball out quick and all that. They threw and ran away from him almost the whole game at least what i saw. If a defense only has 1 good player a good, clever offense will be able to Lower that impact. Look at clowney and he had much better supporting cast around him. He can’t rush the qb amd cover the receivers. Baylor put up 70 on almost everyone. Thats just my opinion. U could b right he could be aaron curry or he could be von miller. Who knows.

  • Nick Gancayco

I like robinson from penn st. As a second rounder personally, but mostly because i think we need more youn talent on defense. But if we took watkins at 5 i wouldnt cry about it. Hes a stud
